Summary: A part of you had always believed Lucifer when he called himself the devil. Yet you tried to explain it away, like any logical person would, but logic failed you when you're faced with undeniable truth.

............................................................

Your gaze focused on Lucifer as he sat on the couch, an empty cup in his hand and a forgotten bottle of whiskey sat on the floor beside him. He stared blankly ahead, his appearance disheveled.

"Lucifer?"

That was third time you had said his name and yet just like the last few times, his response was silence. You knew something had happened with Chloe and Pierce, but that was about all you knew.

You approached him slowly and carefully took the empty crystal glass from his hand. Lucifer's eyes focused on you for a moment before resuming their vacant staring at the floor. You sighed and stood up straight. Unaware of the thoughts running through his mind.

"I fear I may have scared the Detective off for good this time." He finally spoke.

You had been putting the bottle of whiskey back on the shelf, when he spoke.

"What do mean?"

Lucifer turned his gaze to you as he stood up. He looked tired.

"She's seen my nastier side, and she left." He said simply.

Any words you had died on your tongue. You wanted to comfort him, tell him not to worry, but your words of comfort wouldn't help. Lucifer's expression suddenly turned cold, and he gave you a smile that seemed empty.

"Of course you don't believe that do you love? After all I couldn't possibly be the devil."

The sarcasm seemed to drip from his voice and you found your desire to comfort him wearing away.

"I never said that." You frowned.

Lucifer laughed as he walked over to the bar, grabbing the bottle of whiskey you had just put back.

"You didn't need to darling, I can read you like a book." He said bitterly.

You were beginning to wonder if coming over to check on him was really a good idea. Lucifer gave you a sour look when you grabbed the bottle from his hand.

"Can you blame me? It's not like I've seen any proof, any human would be skeptical." You muttered.

You tried not to get angry with him, knowing he was only lashing out at the thought of losing a friend. However, his attitude was making it difficult to keep a level head.

"Lucifer, no matter how bad you think your as you put it, is, Chloe wouldn't just abandon you, she's your friend." You assured him.

He gave you a skeptical look, reaching for another bottle which you grabbed before he could. He sighed irritably.

"If I were to show you, I've no doubt in my mind, you'd leave as well." Lucifer said bluntly.

You jerked back a little, hurt by his words. Did he really have that little faith in you?

"Maybe let me decide that for myself."

Your patience had evaporated, replaced by hurt and anger.

"Fine, then shall we test that theory?" Lucifer snapped.

"Lucifer, I don't-"

You didn't have a chance to finish your response before his face warped into something terrifying. His skin was red and angry, looking as if it had been burnt horribly, his eyes were like staring into a pool of blood. You  took a step back, the bottle in your hand slipping from your fingers. It fell to floor shattering, sending the amber liquid everywhere. However, you paid it no mind as you stared at Lucifer with wide eyes.

He took a few steps away from you, his face returning to his usual handsome appearance. A cruel smile was on his lips but his eyes were filled with regret and hurt.

"Looks as though I was correct in my assumption, doesn't it my dear?"

You didn't respond, unable to will your mouth to move. Lucifer scoffed, and turned leaving you standing there, frozen to your spot. You didn't move for a moment, just stood there processing everything that you had seen. He had been telling you the truth this whole time, and you hadn't believed him.

Your mind was drowning in various thoughts, ranging from disbelief to regret. Disbelief that this was all happening that he really was who he said. Regret that you had brushed off what he had always said as metaphors or elaborate stories. You let out a trembling breath as you looked down at the mess you made.

Lucifer stood on the balcony, staring at the city below, a cigarette hanging from his lips. You hovered by the couch, trying to figure out what to say to him. Your hands shook a little, and opened your mouth to speak but the words you wanted to say wouldn't come out. Instead, you approached him slowly, reaching a hand out to him but pulling it back at the last second.

"I don't need a goodbye Y/N." Lucifer mumbled.

He fully expected you to leave, never to see you again. He wouldn't have blamed you if you did. However, it seemed you had found your voice.

"I wasn't going to give you one."

You walked over to him, taking the cigarette from between his lips and taking a small drag from it yourself. Lucifer watched you curiously, staring down at your hand when you placed it over his own.

"I'm not going to tell you goodbye because I'm not leaving Lucifer."

You turned your head to look at him, giving him a smile as you handed him back his cigarette.

"Looks like you were wrong about me, doesn't it?"

Lucifer carefully watched you for a moment, looking for any signs of fear or disgust but found none. You were looking at him like you always did, like nothing had changed between the two of you.

"It appears so." He smiled.

You squeezed his hand.

"I'm with you no matter what Lucifer, nasty bits, and all." You promised.
