Chapter Two Hundred and Fifty Five - Dr. Jenkins's Testify

I kept my eyes on David every time he looked back at his daughter who seem to have locked herself into a shell once again.

My first instinct was to remove her from the courtroom but there's a crowd outside led by my sister and confronting Hailey on the outside would push her further and I just got her back!

Gussippie question the therapist based on the reports she signed off concerning Hailey's mental state when she started remembering the circumstances surrounding her mother's death.

Dr. Jenkins tried telling the court, that her findings concerning her nightmares were made up but Gussippie went hard on her when he question the use of the drugs she placed Hailey on.

"What I don't understand is, why would you threaten your client to take a drug and if she refused you threaten to place her in a Mental Institute where she would be locked for life?" Gussippie, leaning on his desk, continues interrogating a flabbergasted Dr. Jenkins, who looked around the room helplessly.

When she didn't answer, Gussippie continued, " what did the young girl do to you?" Gussippied frowned lowering his voice, giving the impression that he was saddened by the actions of Dr. Jenkins.

Dr. Jenkins looked at the judge for sympathy but Gussippie continued unto this next question.

"Are you aware about the side effects of the medication you place your patient on?" With that question, Gussippie strode slowly to the witness chair, staring down the witness.

"OBJECTION!" The prosecutor stood up staring at Gussippie, the witness and the judge.

With a smug expression, Gussippie turns around, "on what grounds?" He asks with a light chuckle.

Standing still, the prosecutor seemed to tensed up, "badgering the witness." He says firmly.

Chuckling Gussippie faces the judge, "but she isn't answering the questions, so I was trying to see what she, as the therapist of the minor patient, knew what she was doing at that time." Gussippie explains and the judge nods.

"Objection, overruled." even though Judge Roberts responded with a bored toned, he follows the case keenly.

Walking back to his desk, Gussippie picks up a document and strolls towards the witness while reading it.

"It says here, that you prescribe medication for a minor patient which therapists never use," Gussippie states and leans closer to the witness. "Are you aware that Hailey Knights's, baby couldn't survive in her womb because of this medication?" Gussippie asks softly, his tone threatening.

Clasping her hand over her mouth, Dr. Jenkins shook her head helplessly and stared at the bent head of my wife, who froze in my arms.

"HAILEY!" David Sullivan's stood and called his daughter but she didn't raise her head, not for him and not for me.

Slamming his hammer down, "ORDER!" Judge Roberts shouts, but his eyes are on Hailey who sat quietly beside me.

"Adian?" David addresses me this time, nodding at his daughter, making a move towards us but a guard stopped him.

"Hailey, do you want to leave?" I whispered against her ear.

"I thought it was my fault," I heard her snuffles as she whispers against my neck.

Surprise at her response, I lift her chin forcing her to face me but she kept her eyes lowered.

"I have no idea what you're talking about but do you want to leave so that we can talk or do you want to finish this and then we talk?" I badly wanted this testimony to be over with because coming back to it will be too much to handle.

Nodding, "okay,: Hailey whispers, turning to her father, who stood helplessly between two security guards unable to console his daughter.

"Let us finish this," she agrees, looking on just as helpless to her father.

I gave Gussippie a slight nod and he turns to the judge.

"Sorry your honor but we are ready to proceed." Gussippie tells the Judge whose eyes are still fixated on Hailey.

Turning away from Hailey, the judge focuses on Dr. Jenkins.

"Dr. Jenkins, please answer the questions because I will have to charge with contempt, which will delay this case and you will be kept in prison. If this continues, you leave the court to believe that you are withholding evidence which could keep Mr. Sullivan in prison for a murder he committed or free Mr. Sullivan from a murder he didn't commit based on his daughter's testimony." The judge warns Dr. Jenkins who Hailey is actually staring at.

Nodding, Dr. Jenkins at turns to the Judge Roberts.

"Are you ready to answer the questions previously asked by Mr. Gussippie?" The Judge asks Dr. Jenkins whose nods before she answers.

"Yes Sir," she agrees softly, shaking her head sadly at the prosecutor.

"Last question first," Mr. Gussippie says, loudly as he approaches Dr. Jenkins.

Lifting her head high, "Yes, yes I knew Ms. Sullivan would have problems in the future but it was only after prescribing it for her." Dr. Jenkins admitted firmly and clearly.

The prosecutor leaned back in his chair rubbing his chin and shakes his head at Dr. Jenkins confession.

It's either he didn't expect her answer or her admission.

"Why didn't you pull it back after finding out?" Gussippie questioned, fixating his eyes on her.

Focusing on the prosecutor once again, "her legal guardian, is the one who gave me the name of tablet and insisted, that I prescribe it." Dr. Jenkins responded calmly, staring straight ahead no longer making eye contact with anyone in the courtroom.

"Why didn't you report it?" Gussippie persisted, "why didn't you try to help her?" He continued and from his tone, I realized he was having a difficult time, controlling his emotions.

Averting her eyes from wherever she was focus, "if I didn't continue with her medication, she would have been taken to another doctor, who would have locked her up in the mental institute without treating her." Dr. Jenkins stated, without looking away from Gussippie.

"You f**king bitch!" David Sullivan, stood up yelling.
