Chapter 45 Who Is More Ruthless

The watermelon tasted sweet as Renata bit into it, but a hint of bitterness lingered. She was glad she harbored no inappropriate thoughts about Collin. If she did, the sight of his new flame sitting nearby while she chewed on the melon sliced by the same woman, would have been too much to bear. It was enough to turn her stomach, more so than the vivid red of the watermelon juice.

Renata found herself thinking more highly of Collin than before. She'd initially seen him as smarmy, but now, her opinion had shifted.

Renata continued to eat her watermelon in silence, the quiet tension in the room stifling. Lisa, after a moment of contemplation, mustered her courage and spoke. "Ms. Farley," she began.

Renata looked up at Lisa, who continued in a soft, timid voice. "Shall I get you a new ice pack?"

Renata responded with a question of her own. "You're really going to take care of me?"
