Listen to the Beat of My Heart

After experiencing heartache for his runaway bride, whom he dearly loved, Jalil Chris Aversin, the sole grandson and heir of one of the influential richest families, was now facing the crisis of making his grandparents happy and fulfilling their only request, which was to see their grandson be married to a lovely wife and create his own family before he turns 30. With a heavy heart, Jalil directed his trusted private lawyer to look for someone who could be his wife and who was trustworthy and respectful.  On the other hand, Eliza Martinez, a 24-year-old woman who was living her best, peaceful, and simple life, got a call from her lawyer friend. She was told to sign a marriage contract with someone whose supposed wife ran away the day before their marriage. At first, she refused the offer since she was still unready to enter the marriage life, but because of her friend's persistence, not to mention that her monthly salary as a wife will be millions, Eliza accepted the offer. The marriage agreement, including the rules and remuneration, was settled between Eliza and Jalil. However, their marriage life was a complete disaster as their personalities clashed. Despite their disagreements, Jalil couldn't end the contract as his grandparents became fond of Eliza.  Now, will they learn to adjust to each other and get along? Where will their contract lead them? What if the runaway bride comes back and reveals the long-forgotten secrecy of the Aversin family?

'Strange Caller'

It was around 8 in the evening, and Eliza was busy putting all the fresh fruits and vegetables they bought in the fridge while Jalil was in his office.

The house was too quiet since Jalil was having an online meeting in his office room. Eliza respected that, so she didn't turn any music on.

She stopped organizing the fridge when her phone rang.

"Hello?" she answered to the unknown number who called her when she answered the call, but the other line was just silent.

Eliza knitted her brows as she distanced the phone from her right ear and checked whether the line was cut off or not. She put her phone back in her ear again when she confirmed the caller was still on the line. "Hello? Who is this?"

Eliza ended the call immediately, as the other line was still quiet. She assumed it was just someone pulling some pranks at her since she had received quite a lot of prank calls before.

She was about to continue what she was doing when her phone rang once again—it was the same unknown number. Now, she felt a little uncomfortable.

She stared at her phone for a moment, hesitating to answer it. The call was missed, but it just dialed her number again a second later.

"Hello?" Eliza's tone was lowered. "Who is this? What do you want?"

The other line was still silent, but she heard a faint sound of an air conditioner. She listened and observed the faint sound of the caller's surroundings. Then the caller ended the call.

Her brows furrowed in confusion after. She was sure it wasn't a prank call anymore. Someone knew it was her number and was probably checking or confirming it. If it were a prank call, it would just take one call to be answered, or the prankster would try to talk, but this one was just silent and listening to her, not to mention that it called her more than once.

She was aware of her safety since she was an Aversin now. This call was alarming for her.

Eliza immediately texted Vasquez's number to tell him what happened and sent the unknown number to him. She felt uneasy.

She was startled as her phone rang, and now nervousness enveloped her body when she saw that an unknown number was calling her again. She couldn't even move to answer the call; she was just staring at her phone.

"Why don't you answer it?" She glanced at Jalil, who had just come to the kitchen; he had already changed his clothes. His brows were knitted while he stared at Eliza's pale face. "What's wrong?"

The ring ended, and her phone became serene. She looked at Jalil with that bothered gaze. "It's an unknown number, and I answered the call twice, but the other line was just silent."

They both looked at her phone as it rang again. Eliza pointed to the phone and looked at Jalil. "That's the fifth call."

Jalil didn't hesitate to get Eliza's phone and answer it, but as soon as the caller heard his voice, the caller immediately ended the line. He dialed the unknown number again, but it didn't answer the call.

Jalil tried to call the number again, but it just rang once, then went straight to a voicemail, which means Eliza's phone number was blocked by the caller.

Jalil looked at Eliza and returned her phone. "You should change your number. You'll be using my spare number."

After he said that, he saved the unknown number to his phone to investigate it, but his eyes widened after the number matched one of his contacts.

It was Emily's spare number before.
