Listen to the Beat of My Heart

After experiencing heartache for his runaway bride, whom he dearly loved, Jalil Chris Aversin, the sole grandson and heir of one of the influential richest families, was now facing the crisis of making his grandparents happy and fulfilling their only request, which was to see their grandson be married to a lovely wife and create his own family before he turns 30. With a heavy heart, Jalil directed his trusted private lawyer to look for someone who could be his wife and who was trustworthy and respectful.  On the other hand, Eliza Martinez, a 24-year-old woman who was living her best, peaceful, and simple life, got a call from her lawyer friend. She was told to sign a marriage contract with someone whose supposed wife ran away the day before their marriage. At first, she refused the offer since she was still unready to enter the marriage life, but because of her friend's persistence, not to mention that her monthly salary as a wife will be millions, Eliza accepted the offer. The marriage agreement, including the rules and remuneration, was settled between Eliza and Jalil. However, their marriage life was a complete disaster as their personalities clashed. Despite their disagreements, Jalil couldn't end the contract as his grandparents became fond of Eliza.  Now, will they learn to adjust to each other and get along? Where will their contract lead them? What if the runaway bride comes back and reveals the long-forgotten secrecy of the Aversin family?

'Marrying a stranger?'

A woman who was currently sweeping her living room, with her long curly hair tied in a pony, looked annoyed as she heard her phone ring.

She put the broom beside the couch, fixed her loose blue shirt, and sat where her phone was placed.

"What is it, Atty. Lor Vasquez? Did I receive a summons or something?" The woman cheerfully asked as she answered the phone.

[ You really wish for it, huh? Seriously? ]

"Nah, I just want you to work."

[ I am working! ]

The woman chuckled. "Yeah. Yeah."

[ Anyway, Eliza... I called for a reason. ]

The woman, named Eliza, stood up and continued sweeping the floor while holding the phone in her left hand. "What is it?"

[ Are you interested in marrying a stranger? ]

Eliza was stunned. "Damn it, bro. You're selling your best friend?!"

[ What?! No! I will never risk my profession for that, idiot. I'm offering you a job. ]

Eliza's left brow was raised. "A job? Marraige? A job?! Are you telling me marrying someone is a job?"

[ I know it's unbelievable, but it's true. My client wanted me to look for a contract wife who's trustworthy and decent. ]

Eliza laughed. "Are you kidding me? Trustworthy? Decent?"

[ Liz, I'm serious... Okay. I really need your help. And you're the only one I can trust with this. ]

Eliza took a deep sigh. "Lor, I understand. But it's a marriage. You're telling me to marry someone! I'm not even ready to be in a committed relationship. Now you want me to take the shortcut? Marriage life is not a joke!"

Eliza heard him let out a long sigh.

[ Listen. My client wasn't looking for a wife to take care of him or share a bed with him. He just wanted a wife he could introduce to his grandparents. He just wanted to show them he's marrying. ]

"That's ridiculous."

[ I know... That's why it's a job. You will be paid for it. And it is contracted. Perhaps he will divorce you later on. ]

Eliza was in deep thought. A part of her wanted to help him, but a part of her was also hesitating. "How much will my salary be?"

[ Approximately a million every month. ]

Eliza's mouth hung in disbelief. "No way! Seriously?!"

[ Did I get your interest? Yes. It's million. ]

Eliza bit her lower lip, slightly stomping her feet while thinking about the offer.

It's million! No one will ever pay me that much for a salary! Although monthly is a bit too good to be true... But it's still a million!

Her thoughts wandered.

[ What do you say? ]

Eliza took a deep breath and said, "Okay. I'll accept the offer."

[ Really?! Thank you! Thank you! When are you available to sign the contract? ]

"Mhmm... How about..." Eliza looked at her calendar and said, "On Friday?"

[ Uh. Tomorrow? ]

"Come on, Lor. I said Friday!" Eliza rolled her eyes as she finished her sweeping. "I won't be available tomorrow. I'll visit my mom."

[ Alright. Friday then. I'll pick you up by 8 in the morning. ]

"Okay," Eliza replied, and then they hung up the call.

Eliza was now in deep thought, wondering whether she had made the right decision or if she was being careless.

Eliza flopped on her couch and bonked her head with the pillow. "You stupid woman! For money, you're literally going to marry a stranger! Ugh!"
