Chapter Eight: The Prom

The next few weeks flew by in a blur of schoolwork and extracurricular activities. Before Lily knew it, prom night had arrived.

She had spent weeks planning her outfit and getting her hair and makeup done. She felt beautiful and confident as she walked down the stairs in her dress, feeling like a princess.

Mike was waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs, looking handsome in his tuxedo. As they made their way to the car, Lily felt a sense of excitement and nervousness. This was their first big event together since they had gotten back together, and she wanted everything to be perfect.

As they arrived at the venue, Lily couldn't believe how stunning everything looked. The ballroom was decorated in a sea of pink and gold, with twinkling lights and flowers everywhere.

As they danced together, Lily couldn't help but feel like she was in a fairytale. Everything felt perfect, and she was so happy to be there with Mike.

But as the night wore on, Lily started to feel a sense of unease. Mike seemed distant, like something was on his mind. She tried to brush it off, assuming that he was just nervous about the big night, but as the evening went on, she couldn't ignore it any longer.

"What's wrong?" she asked him, as they took a break from dancing.

Mike looked at her, his expression pained. "I have something to tell you, Lily."

Lily felt her heart start to race. What could he possibly have to say that was so serious?

"I got accepted to a college in California," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm leaving in two months."

Lily felt like the air had been knocked out of her. She had known that Mike was applying to colleges, but she had never thought about the possibility of him leaving.

"I don't know what to say," she said, her voice trembling. "What does this mean for us?"

Mike looked at her, his eyes sad. "I don't know, Lily. I want to make it work, but I don't know if a long-distance relationship is feasible."

As they danced the rest of the night away, Lily felt like her heart was breaking. She had just gotten back together with Mike, and now he was leaving.

Over the next few weeks, Lily tried to come to terms with the idea of Mike leaving. She knew that she wanted to be with him, but the thought of a long-distance relationship was daunting.

But as the days ticked by, Lily knew that she had to make a decision. She couldn't let Mike go without a fight.

One night, as they sat in Mike's car, Lily made up her mind.

"I'll come with you," she said, her voice resolute.

Mike looked at her, surprise evident on his face. "What? Lily, you don't have to do that."

"I want to," she said, her heart beating fast. "I don't want to lose you, Mike. I'll go with you to California."

Mike looked at her, his expression softening. "Are you sure?"

Lily nodded, a smile spreading across her face. "I'm sure."

And just like that, Lily's life changed once again. She was leaving everything she knew behind to start a new life with the love of her life. It was scary, but she knew that she was making the right decision.

As they drove away from their hometown, Lily looked out the window, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness. This was the start of a new chapter in her life, and she couldn't wait to see where it would take her.
