Ch-26: Going Outside

"Eh, Master, why are you looking for me this early morning?" Bai Chenyu asked with curiosity.

"Heh, can't I just come for a casual visit? Anyway, I'm here to take you on a trip outside the sect, into the wilderness for some experience. You've never gone out before, right? So, it'll be a good experience for you," Mo Xiao informed.

"Huh, seriously? Are you really taking me outside of the sect?" Bai Chenyu asked in an excited voice. Since his reincarnation, he had always been within the confines of the sect and longed to explore the world beyond. Due to his low strength and not being an official disciple, he was not allowed to venture outside. If not for the system, he might have remained a trial disciple and sweeper for the rest of his life. Now, with his master taking him outside, he was obviously very eager to see the world beyond the sect.

"Huh, looks like you're very excited. Yes, we are going. Wear your new robes, which have arrived, and meet me outside your mansion," Mo Xiao said. He understood Bai Chenyu's current feelings, knowing that trial disciples were confined within the sect for their own safety. When they got a chance to go out, they were eager to explore. Mo Xiao threw a packet containing Bai Chenyu's robes and walked out of the mansion.

Bai Chenyu eagerly opened the packet and found a purple robe with a thick golden stripe on the upper arm, signifying his status as a Golden Peak disciple. All disciples wore purple robes, but the number and color of stripes varied. Trial disciples had none, Outer Court disciples had a single stripe (which Bai Chenyu would have had if not selected by Mo Xiao), Inner Court had two stripes, and Core and Peak disciples had three. Silver Peak disciples had a silver stripe on their robe. Bai Chenyu quickly put on his new robes and stepped out of the mansion, where he saw Mo Xiao waiting for him.

"Are you ready?" Mo Xiao asked.

"Yes," Bai Chenyu replied, excitement evident on his face.

"Alright, let's go." Mo Xiao, seeing Bai Chenyu dressed up, utilized his spiritual power to lift him up and flew towards the entrance of the sect.

After some time, Bai Chenyu observed from the sky the high walls surrounding the sect and disciples coming in and out.

"Master, is there any reason for the walls? I mean, if someone wants to invade, can't they just fly above the sect?" Bai Chenyu asked curiously, realizing this wasn't mentioned in the novel. His curiosity sparked, thinking that perhaps this was something the author in his previous life had overlooked.

"Your concern is reasonable, but it is not built to keep invaders away. Instead, it's to prevent beasts that cannot fly from entering the sect. Some beasts could potentially break the wall, but the elders would take action if that happens. Also, it acts as a border for the sect grounds and prevents disciples from wandering out without permission," Mo Xiao explained, and Bai Chenyu nodded, satisfied that his curiosity was quenched.

Mo Xiao and Bai Chenyu flew a bit further, landing near the entrance, startling the guards who were gossiping among themselves instead of properly doing their duty. Immediately, they snapped to attention.

"Who is it?" one of the elders, acting as a guard, asked hastily before looking at the figure who had arrived.

"Relax, elders, it's me," Mo Xiao said in a nonchalant tone.

Upon hearing his voice, one of the elders started sweating profusely, recognizing the voice.

"S-Sect Master," stammered one of the elders in a trembling voice.

'Damn, I got caught by the Sect Master while slacking off,' the elders cried inwardly, their nervousness evident as they looked at Mo Xiao.

"I see you are having fun gossiping among yourselves, huh?" Mo Xiao said with a smile that did not seem like a smile to the elders. They looked at him with sweat-covered foreheads and trembling bodies but dared not utter a word.

"It's okay to chat among peers, but be more mindful of your surroundings. Do you understand?" Mo Xiao asked with narrowed eyes, sending a chill down their spines.

"Yes, yes, we understand," the elders quickly responded, nodding their heads like chickens pecking at rice.

"Good. Listen, I am going outside of the sect walls with my disciple Bai Chenyu. If anyone asks, tell them the Sect Master is outside," Mo Xiao instructed. The dumbfounded elders turned their heads toward Bai Chenyu, whom they had not noticed before under the pressure of the Sect Master's gaze.

The other disciples who were nearby also heard Mo Xiao's words and looked at Bai Chenyu with wide eyes.

"Heavens, look at the Golden Stripe on his upper arm. Only someone who is the personal disciple of the Sect Master can wear it. No doubt, he is the famous Bai Chenyu," exclaimed one of the disciples.

"Someone so young actually accomplished a feat that not even the founder of the sect could achieve," said another disciple with wide eyes.

"Hmm, are they going outside of the sect? I understand he is very talented, but wouldn't it be risky to go outside with just Mortal Realm cultivation?" asked another disciple.

"Idiot, look, the Sect Master is also accompanying. Do you think any danger will befall with the Sect Master's presence? The Sect Master must be taking him for experience. He was a trial disciple before, you know, and never went outside of the sect like many," concluded another disciple.

While the others were engrossed in their discussions, Bai Chenyu paid no heed to such meaningless chatter. Instead, he handed his identification token to the elders in charge, registering himself for leaving the sect. Afterward, he headed towards the entrance with his master.

"Oh, Chenyu, take this," Mo Xiao said, handing a ring to him. Bai Chenyu was shocked at the sight of the ring.

"Wear this; it's a low-grade Spirit Ring," Mo Xiao explained, smiling at Bai Chenyu's surprised expression.

"Thank you, Master," Bai Chenyu said politely. He had a storage pouch which he got from the system but now he got something better and more convenient

"Haha, no worries. You'll need it to store beast cores after you kill them. Beast cores are used for many things like Alchemy, Artifact making, etc.," Mo Xiao informed, and Bai Chenyu nodded in understanding as they left the sect walls.
