22.Noble(?)

He started, "You see, there are some devil beings in our world. We call them Demonic zergs. They look like your average insects based on their morphology, but everything about them is huge", Aki's full attention was on him, for the time being, he may not understand much, but he will note them down and will ask his Onee-chan in the end, another reason to get her to attend to him plus, he instinctively wanted to learn about this, even he didn't understand why, it was as if, it was meant to be?

The Duke saw that he wasn't scared, well, it was understandable... Aki had never ventured the outside world and he was just at a tender age of 4, he still didn't need to fully understand it, just a brief account about it will do.

"Huge?", Aki asked when he saw the Duke pause, he urged him to continue.

"hm.. normally they are around 3 to 4 metre tall, but some can be taller and larger than them! They have a very hard outer covering which makes it hard to attack them, but to live a peaceful life, we can't let those demonic zergs roam around and cause a disturbance. That is where magic comes into being. Since, old times, these demonic zergs have tried to cause terror among us human and because of that thick covering normal weapons didn't affect them, but when magic covered those same weapons, it was a different story. Magic is holy and is bestowed upon the nobility to get rid of them. Demonic zergs are evil, while magic is pure and holy, as a result, it helps to eradicate those evil beings."

At some point, Yuki also started listening to them.

What the duke had said was actually what she had read in a copy of a holy scripture turned into a storybook, it was something passed from generations and was the tale told to every Alpha and Omega born in the noble class, it seems, the duke was also told the same by his parents.

Yuki almost scoffed when she heard him say that it was bestowed upon the nobility, but she didn't deny him, in a way, he spoke as a thoroughbred noble, to him, probably the Alphas and Omegas were the true nobles while all others became the other group, it wasn't his fault... it was just how he grew up.

Yuki was again about to enter her inner realm when she heard Aki call for her, "Onee-chan!"

Yuki could almost see the faint sulking mood in his eyes and his pouting face... only then did she remember that she had ignored everything again... it was a really bad habit of her!

She simply patted his head to coax him, and as expected the foolish kid immediately forgot his grievances from the earlier period and gave her a cute grin.

The Duke saw that she was finally out of her daze and spoke, "Would you like some evening snacks?"

Aki was the one to answer, "Papa, tell me more. We can have snacks later", he really wanted to know more.

The Duke glanced at Yuki who didn't seem to have any thoughts on the matter and continued, " According to one's aptitude and other bodily factors, the amount of magic one can use at a time is limited", the Duke didn't want to talk about the gender system as of yet so, he simply skimmed through it, " even among nobles, there is a difference in how much magic one can use, some have the strength to use to for a whole day while others can't use it for more than an hour. In the end, it all depends on your innate strength. We call it a core, but it's not physical. At birth we all have the same core, growing up we boost our strength, you see, we exercise, we eat enough nutrient, our surrounding environment is good for the growth... these small things results in how much our core grows to hold our magic. Every noble family has their own art to teach their next generation about increasing this core's capacity until they reach their puberty when the magic manifests."

Aki, by now, had starry eyes. He may not understand what a demon looked like, but the word 'magic' itself had a charm to it, no matter where you grew up so, when he found out that there are people in this world who can do magic, he was awed by his words.

"Papa, are we noble?", he never ventured to the outside world so, he still didn't have a basic idea about classes, he was a child who didn't even have a normal upbringing a week ago so, him not knowing about his was probably the most normal thing in this world.

The Duke spoke with his innate pride as a superior and noble, " Indeed. We are the Winterdale."

Aki almost squealed, "Then Papa can do magic?!"

"Your father is the strongest in the empire", this was the truth.

Aki jumped on his seat with a huge grin, clapping his hands in pure joy as his eyes turned into crescents, he turned to his sister and spoke with glee, " Onee-chan! We are nobles! In the future, we can do magic too!!", he then went on to give her a huge hug and so, he missed the smirk that played on Yuki's lips, full of sarcasm, when she gave a look to the Duke who by now had furrowed eyebrows.

She may be a 'noble', but she was a beta... she can't perform this 'magic' that the Duke spoke in length about...
