Fate is something Derik has always believed in. He strongly believed that there are something's a person cannot escape and apart from death, fate is one of them too. The thought of someone having the ability to control fate made in shudder in shock while wondering how strong the person would be. He was so lost in thought that he barely noticed Lucien's entrance and also failed to notice he has been punched. He delve deeper into his thoughts, only hearing sounds that made him believe that someone was yelling at him. Derik could not tell who was speaking or why the person was speaking or what the person is saying, all he knew is that something was standing in front of him and yelling at him.
