big oof

Coughs and moans of pain reverberated throughout the damp, dank alley. Three figures could be seen looming over a downed figure covered in blood. The figures backed up slowly seemingly going to leave, satisfied with the damage done. Just when the downed figure felt hope seeing them leaving he felt an earth-shattering kick to his sternum. The kick flipped him over onto his back and left him wheezing up blood.

"All right, I think your debts have been paid. Just one little issue." The main figure pulled a knife he had been previously using to torment him and plunged it directly into a seemingly random spot on his midsection. He gasped out in pain and horror at the implications. Now satisfied with their work they left, leaving him for dead.

With an inhuman struggle, the downed figure got up and limped away.

This event had been a turning point in Lee's life. All his life Lee had been a nobody. He was average all around. Average looks, average cultivation talent, no bloodline, or sect to speak of. Lee was a poor 15-year-old orphan living in New Moon city diligently cultivating and saving up to join New Moon profound palace. Alas, this goal could never be accomplished as several months ago he had become a cripple, unable to cultivate, and thus could never become stronger. If before he was a nobody, now he is even less. A cripple and good for nothing.

The world he lived in is called the Primal Chaos dimension and it is a cultivation world where you would do the usual. This cultivation world's system of cultivation is called the Profound Way and is built on a system of every being -mortal or divine- being born with an innate set of organs called profound veins whose purpose is to hold profound strength or profound energy in order to strengthen all attributes such as strength, speed, perception, agility, and endurance as well as give control over the laws of nature.

That stab that Lee had been inflicted with had damaged his profound veins so thoroughly he could no longer cultivate at all. Any profound energy that he would pull from his surroundings and into his veins would leak through until he had lost all cultivation. Lee's previous cultivation was at the 7th stage of the elementary profound realm and seeing all his hard work drain out from his profound veins was incredibly scary.

Like most cultivation worlds, this was a cutthroat dog-eat-dog society where the weak would be trampled while the strong and privileged prevail. Of course, it wasn't all bad all the time. There was some semblance of courtesy, or else how would trade, manufacturing, or currency function?

A few months had passed since the incident and Lee had been laying low. He never knew if those same guys would come back to finish the job. During this time he would use his dad's old hunting bow to hunt wild game. He would drain the blood, then gut, and butcher the animals then sell the skins to traders or use them to make items be needed. While going about his tasks he had been giving a lot of thought to how he would go about doing his revenge.

Oh yeah, while clearly a foolish endeavor that would only serve to get him killed, he stubbornly refused to give up. He would find a way.

Lee walked out from his house and onto his front porch. He double-checked his equipment. Camouflaged coat, check. Bow, in perfect condition with plenty of arrows, check. A backup short sword and utility knife, check. Seeing he was ready he made haste into the woods. His house was located on the outskirts of New Moon city and thus had easy access to the woods, he was practically in them anyway.

He prowled around looking for prey for some time until he spotted a doe by itself drinking from a stream. He slowly and quietly crept up closer to make his shot easier. He had previously erased his scent to make it harder to detect him so he wasn't concerned about it sniffing him out. He crept closer and closer under the cover of the tall grass. When he was about 5 meters from the prey he drew his bow and notched an arrow.

He lined up the shot. He slowed his breathing to a stop and concentrated on the spot he was aiming for. A soft 'twang' rang out as the arrow struck true, ripping through muscle, puncturing a lung, and piercing the heart. The doe collapsed in a heap, bleeding out and dying. He smiled in victory and was about to go over and pluck the arrow out and retrieve his dinner when he spotted a flash from the corner of his eye. He paused and stared at that spot before continuing on.

'Have I gone mad?' he questioned himself. He was proven wrong however when his instincts screamed at him to duck. He did so and narrowly avoided a sudden death via decapitation. He got up and what he saw shocked him.

'A profound beast? What is it doing all the way out here this close to the city?' Lee was given no more time to think as the profound beast rushed toward giving off a faint purple aura. Lee was able to dodge its charge and draw his sword. He turned and landed a slash at its back.

'Judging from its speed and strength it should be in the low low elementary profound realm. Thank the heavens it isn't one stage higher or this would be a guaranteed death for me.' Lee sidestepped another charge and landed another slash making an 'x' pattern on the fox's back.

'The fox must've underestimated me because I had no cultivation, that's why I am doing so well. With its strength and speed, it should easily blitz me yet I have landed two devasting blows.' The fox did just that as it blurred past Lee leaving a deep claw mark on his forearm almost to the bone. Lee wasn't given any time to feel the pain as he was tackled to the ground and then pounced on. He was able to block the bite by lodging his sword in its mouth but he wouldn't last long. Thinking fast he quickly drew his hunting knife and lodged it into its chest, weakening it greatly. The fox being quite injured and scared cut its losses and ran away from the confrontation. No food or prey was worth risking your life over.

Lee fell onto his ass in exhaustion and took out some bandages. He winced in pain and wrapped his wounds. He dragged his slain doe back to his house where he had quite the nice lunch and dinner.

After finishing his dinner he was about to go to bed but he was then assaulted by a blisteringly painful and pounding migraine. Knowledge, memories, and concepts he had never even thought or heard about flooded his mind. Modern Science, entertainment, and other things. All from someplace called Earth.
