Replenishing Endurance

The existence of item's durability was a huge discovery. Li JinHai was lucky that he found out now and not in the mid of a battle. He shivered as he thought about his katana breaking during a fight. Although he was confident in his bare-hand martial skills, fighting zombies without a weapon would only bring an outcome: death!

"Since I spawned in this new world, I killed around 10 zombies and my katana's durability is already at 3. I can probably kill only four of five more zombies before it breaks." Thought Li JinHai as he calculated. He took the Recruit Sword from the ground. He decided to not use it for the moment as he was already getting used to the katana. He then collected the Silver Coins.

"The sword and the Silver Coins are probably the Tutorial reward. It seems that if I kill a Player that turned into a zombie, he will drop all his items and coins in their possession." Stated Li JinHai. Suddenly he heard some roars from behind the bushes. "Gosh! The man's screams have probably attracted lots of zombies. I must get away from here!" Escaping from this situation without engaging in a fight was probably the wisest decision he could pick at the moment. With only 5 points of Endurance left he would be exhausted soon.

He stored the Recruit Sword and started to run down the mountain with the katana in his hand. If he did not encounter any zombies 5 points of Endurance would have been more than enough to run two or three miles

As the boy ran down the mountain, he constantly kept his attention high on the surroundings. Zombies were dangerous but slow, and he could easily avoid them however, he did not know what other dangers were lurking around the mountain range, so he had to be extremely careful.

He occasionally stopped to recuperate his breath and energies. You could say that Li JinHai was trained like a professional athlete but the weather in the Magic World was hot and humid like during summer in some tropic countries. From breathing to talking and running, everything would consume more energy.

Suddenly, while he was resting on the side of the mountain path, Li JinHai's attention was drawn by a strange-looking tree not far from him. To tell the truth, the tree was not strange in any aspects as it was looking like a large fruit tree resembling those from Earth however, as the entire vegetation of the mountain range was composed of blue-leafed palms, hence the peculiar fruit tree did stand out in some ways. It seemed like the tree was planted there from another place on purpose.

What drown JinHai's curiosity the most, were the numerous large apple-like fruits which were hanging from the tree. He used 'Observation' to see if that fruit had some magical property, but nothing happened. They looked just like normal apples from Earth.

Li JinHai decided to climb on the plant. The strange fruit tree was tall and robust so he could definitely rest on his branch out of the zombies' range. When he got on a higher branch, the boy extended his arm to pick some fruits.

"Gulp." Li JinHai swallowed a mouthful of saliva as he felt the fragrance which was emanated from the fruit. After almost three hours of running and fighting, he was both hungry and thirsty and the fruit looked extremely delicious.

He finally decided to try to eat the fruit. He gave a small bite and chewed for some minutes to feel if everything was alright. Finally, after he found out that there was nothing wrong with the fruit, he swallowed it as a whole.

As soon as he finished the fruit, he felt a warm sensation rising from his stomach. Suddenly a blue screen popped out of thin air.

Li JinHai's eyes opened wide with surprise. "Eh? I can replenish Endurance by eating. This is good news!" He exclaimed as he started to pick more apples from the tree branches hoping to replenish more Endurance.

"Eh!? Are the fruit's effects running out?"

"What a nuisance! It seems that I cannot eat these fruits to completely replenish my Endurance." Exclaimed Li JinHai. "Let's see what my stats are now."

"Resting and eating the fruits helped me to replenished around 4 points and I am almost out of the mountain." Li JinHai now had enough Endurance to both fight and run so he could relax a bit.

Although the sky was slightly obfuscated by some clouds, from the sun's position, Li JinHai could tell that the time was around 12:00 a.m. Suddenly, as he was waling down the mountain path, he heard some distinctive sounds coming from the front.

BANG BANG BANG

All of a sudden Kang heard some gunshots. He clearly remembered that the only weapons available in the tutorial were cold weapons, even the bow and arrows were locked. HE was curious to witness what was happening so he started moving towards the direction from which the noises were coming. If someone was in danger and the circumstances were not too difficult for him, he would be more than happy to help somebody. And if this somebody turned out to be a new ally having a gun it would have been even better!

Li JinHai walked for some minutes before reaching a mountain area with scarce vegetation. Below a large blue-leafed palm tree, there was a middle-aged man holding a gun and shooting at a group of zombies. There were already 6 zombies on the ground, each of them with bloody holes on their heads. Each dead zombie had one hole on the head meaning that the man's aim was extremely good and he was not wasting any bullet.

However when Li JinHai directed his attention towards the man, he saw a gruesome bite wound on his shoulder. The middle-aged man had probably been bitten before he could take out his gun. The Magic World was extremely cruel. You could be the most skilled shooter on Earth, but a slight distraction could instantly lead to death.

Just slightly after Li JinHai arrived, the man started to stagger and fell on his knees. 5 zombies were slowly approaching the man. Before acting Li JinHai decided to use 'Observation'.

"This is going to be difficult!" Exclaimed Li JinHai. Out of the five zombies, two were LV1, two were LV2 and the last one was actually a LV3 zombie. Until now, Li JinHai had never encountered LV3 zombies!

Reluctantly, Li JinHai decided to wait for the zombies to start eating the man's body before attacking. From his previous experiences, he found out that while zombies were earing they were even less responsive to the surroundings than they usually were.

As soon as the zombies started devouring the man's corpse, Li JinHai attacked as fast as lighting. His first target was the LV3 zombie.

SLASH

The katana slashed apart the zombie's head. Li JinHai could feel the increased toughness of the bones of higher-level zombies. A large ball of golden light left the zombie's corpse and entered Li JinHai's body.

Before backing away to prepare for the next attack, he slashed at another LV2 zombie that was still eating the man's flesh.

SNAP

As soon as the katana touched the zombie's skull Li JinHai heard a strange sound.

The Recruit Katana broke apart in two pieces and disappeared in golden light…
