Monster Rain

She screamed, cried, and shivered, as she uttered those unbelievable words. She had shoved her head into Raiden's chest and clenched his shirt as she let out that horrendous amount of tears.

Raiden had gone into a state of shock as he saw Makie covered in blood and crying non-stop in his arms. He couldn't believe what his ears had just heard. He wanted a full explanation from Makie but seeing her cry like that, he found himself unable to utter a single word.

He hesitated at first but finally pulled out the strength to ask Makie. He held her by her shoulders and pushed her off his chest. He directly looked into Makie's face.

But she cried utterly while facing down. She couldn't face Raiden!

"Maki!" Raiden shouted. "Look at me!" He said.

Makie didn't stop crying and neither looked at him.

"Hey! What the hell happened? Tell me something, please!" Raiden was desperate to know what happened. He just wanted to believe that he had misheard Makie at first. "Hey! Just spit it out, already!" He shouted in anger.

Makie stopped crying and sobbed a little. She shivered and hesitated. She tried to force something out of her but was unable to do so. She made an effort to move her head up. She forced herself to her limits.

"They- They...… died," she muttered, silently that she herself couldn't hear those words.

"Huh? What was that? Speak up, Maki! Tell me what the hell happened!"

"They...…." Tears once again rolled down her cheeks.

"What?" Raiden insisted.

"They died…." She finally said it so Raiden could hear it properly.

The shocking realization hit Raiden hard.

"He tried... tried to protect me till his last breath…. TAKESHI TRIED!" She said, furiously, as her head rolled up to face Raiden.

Seeing her face full of tears, several emotions erupted inside Raiden.

"Even in his last breath, he called out my name, as if…." She sobbed, "As if, he just wanted me to live even in his dying breath."

"Oh." Raiden didn't have words to speak. He was speechless. At that moment, all he could think about was his memories with Takeshi.

He was not very close to Takeshi but they were good friends. Even before all the craziness started, Takeshi always looked out for everyone and even for Raiden. Raiden was never interested in anything but playing around with Takeshi always cheered him on. And, even today he could count on Takeshi until the very end. But, now that he was gone, all those memories felt like a vivid dream to Raiden. It was the first time that Raiden actually cared... cared about his friend's death. For the first time.

But that was not all that he cared about.

He had one more thing in his mind.

"What about Chido?"

"He was so scared when everting happened. Terrified, after seeing Takeshi die. He…. He called out for you… In the very end. Asking for help…"

Raiden took his hands off Makie's shoulder and put them down. He clenched his fists in which he had a wooden sword and a metal rod and looked toward the sky.

"I see," he said.

That's all he was able to say. He couldn't help but see Chido's face in the clouds above.

Chido was the weak-looking guy in their class and everyone picked up on him. He didn't have many friends and he didn't talk with many people either. Raiden could relate to him. That's why he approached Chido at first. Raiden wanted to know more about himself and he saw himself in Chido. But, when he approached him, he found out, that Chido was the complete opposite of him.

What Chido wanted was just for someone

to talk with him. But, what Raiden wanted was unknown to him.

Raiden lived a meaningless life. He wanted to know the purpose of his coming to this world. But, being with Chido, he could stop thinking about those things. All he felt was happy when he was by Chido's side.

But, now Chido was gone. And, the question, 'What is my purpose in my life?' had again taken a place in Raiden's mind.

'Damn it! Why do things have to be like this?'

He questioned the situation but something directed his attention from the sky to the roof of the school.

He came out from his thoughts and looked carefully at the roof.

"Maki!" He shouted as he pushed Makie away from him and backed off from that position himself.

Something from the sky fell on the place where they were standing. The sound of the impact made a loud sound and dust particles hid the fallen thing under them.

Makie stabilized herself from the sudden push and looked by her side where the thing had fallen.

The dust cleared out and what she found made her terrified.

One of those Flesh-Eating Monsters was lying down, dead, with his skull burst out from the impact.

But that was not all which made her terrified as hell, because as she looked up towards the roof, she found multiple monsters falling down toward them.

It was raining. But, it wasn't rain, instead, Flesh-Eating Monsters were raining from the roof.

Both Raiden and Makie backed off as the big pack of bodies fell.

'Shit! They are those monsters who broke into the roof some time ago. And, Makie was crying so loud, of course, they would jump down on us.'

Raiden looked towards Makie and found out that she had stumbled down due to all the hassle.

"Shit! Makie! Hold down, I am coming," he called out.

He went from sideways where the monsters were not reaching. The big horde of the monsters still kept on jumping and Makie tried to crawl her way away from where they all were landing.

Raiden reached Makie and helped her get on her foot.

"They all are dying as soon as they are hitting their head on the ground but we gotta go, it's not safe here," Raiden said and tried to leave as soon as possible with Makie.

But he was wrong in one part. That not all were dying by hitting their head on the ground as many bodies had already piled up on the ground, the new monsters who were jumping afterward had a cushion of dead bodies underneath them hence they survived the fall.

Just as they were about to leave one of the monsters jumped toward them.

Makie saw that man coming toward her.

The sudden fear of what she had gone through inside the school returned. She freaked out and panicked. She just wanted to leave, get away from the monsters. She wanted nothing to do with them, ever again.

And, in that state of panic, she pushed Raiden toward the upcoming monster.
