The Alpha and the Pup

Out in the middle of Idaho, there is a rural area that is made up of 5 small towns: Blackfang, Whitepaw, Greyback, Bluemoon and Redsun. Blackfang is the largest town made up of about 8,000 people while Bluemoon is the smallest with only about 2,000. Blackfang is also home to one of the largest groups in the rural area, the Blackfang werewolf tribe.

Werewolves are strong, fearless, and loyal.

The Alphas, the leaders of the pack, are the ones that show these traits the best and the top dog for their packs. However, one future Alpha isn't like other werewolves. What's he like? Well...

Blackfang High School, Football Field

"Hey, Al-Ass-tair!!!! Get your twig dick ass in gear and push that dummy. Let's go, move it you little shit."

A short teenage boy about 16 with shaggy brown hair and twigs for arms is struggling to push the tackling dummy on the football field with the 40 or so football players watching, pointing and laughing at the most weak and pathetic excuse for a werewolf that they have ever seen.

"Hey assholes, give him a break. He hasn't even seen his inner wolf yet."

The one sticking up for the poor MC is his best friend, Neil Valdez. Neil is the same age as Alistair with short black hair and taller, muscular build. He's practically a god and the girls would think so too.

"Hey Al, just give it a rest man. You trying to force out your wolf isn't gonna make him come out any faster. These kinds of things take time, and we have plenty of that right now."

"Easier for you to say Neil, you unleashed your inner wolf last summer and look what happened to you."

"Fair point Al but think about what will happen to you when your wolf is unleashed. You'll probably stop being a pipsqueak just like I was."

"True. Alright, I gotta get home for dinner or my mom will rip my throat out. Catch ya later man."

"See ya Al. God I worry about him sometimes."

What neither of the boys were aware of was someone was listening in on their conversation.

"Hmmm, Alistair Blackfang. He's not a terrible choice but he's still so timid. Maybe he just needs a little push."

Later at the Blackfang residents

The Blackfangs lived in a large wood cabin style house that was home to Alistair, his father Tobias, his mother Vera, and his younger sister Ashley. Tobias was the Alpha of the pack and Vera was the Luna. Ashley was Alistair's younger sister, but she had already experienced her unleashing, so she had already gotten taller and stronger. Females don't tend to unleash their inner wolves like males do but there have been cases of some women who unleashed and grew even a whole foot and a half taller. Ashley could knock out half the football team, which she had done previously, and could easily lift Al up in the air by his neck. However, she also cared for him and didn't want to see him get hurt.

She was actually always keeping an eye on him because he was supposed to be the next Alpha and she didn't want any title chasers coming after him. Sadly, there were already a few of those bitches already eyeing Al and waiting to make a move. There was Katelin Althers, the captain of the cheer leading team, Sasha Michaels, the captain of the swim team, and Natalia Sheath, the resident popular loner. Natalia was the bottom list threat because she's popular, but she keeps to herself.

She is only a threat because Ashley has caught Natalia staring at Al like he's the last bit of meat on the bone and that's all she's gonna get.

In Al's room

'God, why am I such a sad excuse for a future Alpha? What do you think O?'

Al had a secret that no one knew, his inner wolf had begun talking to him years ago, but the wolf had barely been able to form and neither of them understood how it happened. O had only formed his eyes, which were a deep blue with subtle tints of gold.

'Al, I've told you before that you're not a sorry excuse. Time will allow me to form more and as I form you will grow. Patience is the answer in all of this, and you will find a way to strengthen our bond.'

'Okay O, I trust your judgement and hope you're right.'

Al went about his nightly routine of pushups, sit-ups, and planking because there have been reports of wolves unleashing while people have been working out.

'Okay little one, you should get some sleep. It is very important for the growth of the both of us.'

'Alright O, good night.'

'Good night little one.'

The next day

Al went downstairs for breakfast like he always did when he heard a loud noise and rushed to the kitchen. In his kitchen was his younger sister Ashley being restrained by his dad while his mom was holding back Ashley's best friend Jade. Jade had a hunger in her eyes and Al could only assume that something had happened between the two girls that involved their primal instincts. Jade completely changed when she noticed that Al had entered the kitchen. Ashley had also snapped back to senses for a bit. It was when Jade looked at Al that made the whole situation clear to all of those except Al. Jade had found her future mate.

Werewolves tend to find their mates sometime after they awaken but that doesn't always mean that the mate will be awakened. The only reason that Al couldn't realize it was because he hadn't awakened yet so he couldn't smell the pheromones that Jade was releasing in waves.

"H-hey Al, long time no see."

"Hey Jade, how have you been?"

"I-I'm good and you? How are you doing?"

"Same old, same old. No wolf yet."

'Fucking hell.'

Jade cursed under her breath.

"Well, if that's all then I'll help clean up the kitchen and then we can have breakfast."

"Sure sweety, sounds good."

Vera may be a female werewolf and a housewife, but she was no pushover. There was a reason that some of the towns with other wolves had a smaller population. Vera was, and still is, a force to be reckoned with. Tobias may have calmed the storm a bit, but Vera was never afraid to get her hands dirty for her family.

After cleaning up the kitchen and sitting down for breakfast, the tension was weird for Ashley as she had just found out that her best friend was destined to be with her older brother. It was weird for a number of reasons with the first being that Jade was a lot taller than Al due to her awakening and she had always been tall. The next was that Al was destined to be Alpha of the pack. Now, while werewolves tend to mate for life, the Alpha can choose to have more than one Luna. This practice was pretty uncommon but not unheard of. The third reason was that Al had yet to awaken and there was never a guarantee that the mate would return their feelings. Some werewolves had picked mates, but they didn't always return the same feelings.

Jade's head was swimming with thoughts of how she should feel. She had finally found the guy who was supposed to be her lifelong partner, but he hadn't awakened yet There was also the situation of the guy was her best friend's brother. She was torn between her inner instincts and her loyalty to her friend.

As the family finished eating, Neil came in and greeted the family.

"Hey everybody, how's everyone doing on this fine Saturday morning?"

Tobias turned to Neil and greeted him back.

"We're all good Neil. I take it you boys are gonna go on a run today?"

"Yes sir, it's our Saturday tradition."

Neil and Al had gone on runs every Saturday for the past 6 years. The scary thing was that even after Neil had awakened, Al had still been able to catch up to him and even keep pace with him.

This had originally made Neil curious and it reminded him of something that he had heard his grandfather mention: a stage awakening. It's where a werewolf will slowly awaken overtime instead of awakening all at once. The issue with this however is that when the werewolf was fully awakened, they entered a blood thirsty rage and attacked all those nearest to them. This led to loss of many werewolves because they couldn't gain control over their instincts.

Neil and Al finally got ready for their run and set out towards the woods. Meanwhile, Ashley had dragged Jade to her room to talk about the morning event.

"Jade, we need to talk about this shit. NOW!"

"Look, Ash. I wanna talk about it too. Honestly, I'm scared. Al is meant to be the Alpha, but he hasn't awakened yet and he's your brother. I really don't know how to treat the situation. My biggest fear is that my instincts will take over and I'll ruin my relationship with you and your family."

"That's also my fear Jade, but love is also an important thing in this world, and I want you to be happy. If you talk to Al and he reciprocates your feelings, then welcome to the family. If not, then you will still be welcome here. You're my best friend and I will always be there for you."

"Thanks Ash."

Sup everyone, Deltora here. For those of who read my other novel I thank you for doing so. I intend to update it but I'm gonna rush the arc that it's in because I kinda hit a brick wall with it and I wasn't really sure if people liked it. Guess I'll keep writing and see what happens.
