A Very Difficult Mission 4

The soldiers stayed at the camp until dawn and everyone left early to go back up the mountain, Paolo had gained the confidence of the soldiers by being a good guide the day before and finding a good place for them to make the camp.

So the soldiers went back to walking towards the base where the thieves were, Jack had told Paolo that he would guide their way through the information he received from where the thieves' base was.

Paolo said he had never been this far in the mountains, but he knew how to go to a place that was close to where he thought the thieves' base was, Jack hoped that Paolo didn't know exactly where the thieves were.

Jack knew how to find the thieves' base if he got close to where the place was, the hunters had very good tracking skills, in addition, Jack had received more information that Captain Max passed on to him than the captured thieves spoke about.

This information was about possible weaknesses in the thieves 'base and also in the location of their base, so if Paolo could get to a place nearby Jack would know how to find the thieves' base.

The greatest difficulty of this mission was never to find the thieves' base, it was to kill or capture the thieves that were inside that base without many soldiers dying, Jack had promised that he would try to complete the mission and he would try to do that.

After a few hours as the soldiers started to climb the mountain Jack noticed something different and asked the soldiers to stop walking, Jack managed to notice that some wild animals were approaching where he was.

Jack taught the soldiers in the last few days some signs that they could use on the battlefield so that the enemies did not know what they were planning, this also served when they were hunting so that the animals would not notice them.

From the sign that Jack made, Alex and the other archers understood that they were supposed to prepare the arrows to attack when the animals appeared, Jack also took his bow and prepared the arrow for when the enemies appeared.

Soon Jack saw what the animals were and he could relax, the enemies this time were just a group of Coyotes, if Jack was alone he could be worried, but with 100 soldiers beside him, the coyotes could not do anything against them.

In fact, with this large group of soldiers, Jack was not even afraid of a pack of wolves, so the coyotes would not worry him, it was a group of 12 coyotes who had not yet noticed the soldiers.

Jack and the archers prepared and fired together, killing the 12 coyotes without them having a chance to notice the enemies, Jack was very satisfied with the performance of the archers in that first attack.

Unfortunately, coyote meat was not something that was really tasty to eat, so Jack would have to bury the coyotes and keep walking with the soldiers, they would have to bury the coyotes because the thieves could see the dead coyotes and realize that someone was hunting in the Mountain.

In fact, only lions, bears, and cougar could make Jack worried on the mountain, the other animals would not be a problem for Jack and trained soldiers to kill, in this mission Jack would avoid if he could wild animals.

After a few hours, the group of soldiers found two groups of coyotes and also some bobcat, but Jack just scared the bobcat he saw and saw no need to kill them.

Jack killed coyotes because they could make a lot of noise and even attack them even with the smallest group of coyotes, but if a group of coyotes saw Jack's group and ran away, Jack wouldn't attack.

Soon the day ended and they found no dangerous wild animals, Paolo felt ashamed of the coyotes and bobcat that appeared, but Jack understood that these animals did not have a territory at times and Paolo had no way of knowing that.

For Jack, the most important thing was that they found the thieves quickly, even if they had to face several wild animals before finding the thieves' base they would have to do that.

Jack knew that every day the thieves became more suspicious that something happened to the group of thieves that Jack's group killed the majority and captured some, Jack also did not want to take too long on this mission because the soldiers had little food saved for this mission.

While the soldiers were sleeping Jack was sitting by the fire, that night Alex would be doing the patrol, so Jack and Peter were accompanying him, this was an agreement that the three had had since hunting in the forest.

Aaron also enjoyed meeting Alex and Peter very much, but they weren't that close yet and so Aaron preferred not to participate in these Jack meetings, but soon the 4 would become friends.

"This is a really difficult mission, Captain Max must trust you a lot, Jack, to give such a difficult mission."

"Not quite, Alex, Captain Max also did not expect this mission to involve so many thieves and so many problems, he even suggested that I abandon this mission and he himself would come to the mountains with the army."

"But we had to be quick and attack before the thieves realized that the group of thieves they sent died or were captured, then the thieves could run away or even better prepare defenses."

"You were right to continue this mission, Jack, I think this mission is very important for our kingdom, it was very strange for Captain Max to have little information about this mission."

"Normally if the kingdom had wanted to eliminate thieves many years ago they would have gathered more information and at least known how many thieves they had on the mountain, this means that this is an important mission for the kingdom that has emerged in recent months."

Jack and Alex thought for a while and realized that Peter was right in what he said, even if Jack was a good and smart leader it was impossible that he would think of a plan in a few days and Captain Max would never have thought of it in several years.

This meant that the kingdom did not care about thieves until a few months ago, so it must have been related to this war that could happen at any time and that rumors of war had increased in recent years.

Of course, they were just arguing about it to pass the time, after all, Jack didn't care what the mission was about and just had to think of a way to complete this mission without several soldiers dying.
