King Aerys Targaryen Sl

Hand of the king, Lord Owen Merryweather.

Was going through a difficult time, Aerys Targaryen, the King or the Mad King as some would prefer to call him had just caused an uprising by murdering both Rickard and Brandon Stark. He then, somehow decided that it would be a great idea to send a raven out to Jon Arryn at the Vale demanding he hand over Eddard Stark and Robon for execution, or deal with the consequences.

When Jon Arryn's raven returned, refusing Aerys and proclaiming him incapable of being king and a madman and saying that he would call his banners to overthrow the king, not that Owen would have disagreed with the king being mad. The king had erupted in fury going on such a rant that he had a stroke.

It had been a month since the King had had a stroke and things had only gotten worse since then. But Owen, as always, did his duty.

As the weeks passed, Owen had received more and more bad news, the first of which was that the rebels had already chosen a leader. Owen had hoped that it would take longer for the disparate forces to galvanize, for the rebels to choose a leader to command them, because the more time the rebels spent squabbling amongst themselves, the more time that gave the King to wake up. Unfortunately, that plan went up in flames, no pun intended.

They chose Robert Baratheon.

On one hand, Robert was a drunkard and a bit of a rake, but on the other hand, he was fun, gregarious, an amazing fighter, and oh yes, the great-grandson of King Aegon V, giving him a claim on the throne.

But before Owen could try to fix that situation more bad news came: Robert had quickly gathered an army. However, it wasn't all bad news, because rather than bring his entire army into The Crownlands, he'd left over a third of it behind, under his brother Stannis, to siege down the castles of three of his own bannermen. Giving Owen the time he desperately needed to gather a sizable force of his own. Indeed, it seemed like things were looking up.

Then it was found out that Grand Maester Pycelle was poisoning the king.

And as Pycelle was being dragged away to the dungeons kicking and screaming, out of nowhere, and to Owen's utter surprise, the Queen came to him asking if she could see Aerys. Now that was strange to Owen for a lot of reasons so he asked Queen Rhaella why she wanted to see the King.

She replied that she just wanted to make sure he was alright.

Right then and there, Owen knew something wasn't right and yet he allowed her to see him anyway. Alone. When he was at his most vulnerable and where she could easily kill him and have her revenge for all the horrible things Aerys had done to her. He allowed it. He allowed it, realizing he may of just killed his King and yet he could not bring himself to stop her, because, didn't she deserve it? This chance? This choice? After all the horrors Aerys had visited upon her for years?

He allowed it
