Chapter - 01

Thea

Have you ever felt a strong rush of adrenaline in your body which makes you literally send shivers to your spine? That’s exactly what I am feeling right now.

I have never seen anything like this before! I am staring at a yellow anaconda in front of me. It’s the rarest sight to behold. The last thing I remember is that I went after the white cobra but lost its sight suddenly and then as I moved inside the rainforest further, I stumbled upon this beautiful specie.

Oh My God!

The anaconda is slowly rising its head from behind the grass, as it starts to stare back at me with its dark black eyes, tongue coming out of its mouth with a slow slithering hiss sound. It was as if it is trying to observe me.

I took out my camera from the travelling bag of mine which I am carrying along with a torch and water bottle hanging around my neck, the glasses hang on my teal body-fitted top which is then covered by a warm brown jacket to keep me protection from all the insects and mosquitos around. I wore a brown boot and a sturdy black army pants. My black wavy open hair rest on my shoulder with a round hat on my head to maintain the Hiking look.

I started moving closer toward the anaconda with careful and slow steps, trying not to threaten the predator or it will bite me, which is exactly what I want. Oh, Kidding! They don’t bite and neither they are venomous snake. Rather they attack its prey by constricting them in its embrace.

Now what a beautiful and romantic death that would be.

Looks like someone watches Hollywood movies.

Ha-ha.

I took my camera and kneeled in front of it, at a reasonable distance and clicked the beauty in front of me. Such a gorgeous sight it! I stared at the pictures I took, admiring the dark brown spots or. . . better streaks on its greenish-yellow body. I looked above me to realize the sun setting, telling me that I need to find a spot to set the tent for the night or find the way out now, which has no chance as finding way out right now would mean to offer myself as the dinner meal for the animals roaming around here and I am in no mood to be someone else’s food as I am hungry myself. I want to eat pizza or steak. I am craving it! Aah!!!

Finally, after an hour of hard work, I have set the tent, changed into something comfortable to sleep and made some instant noodles for the dinner and now I am seated on the relaxing floor of the tent with the bowl of noodles in my hand. Suddenly I hear the ringing coming from my bag.

Where did the network come from? Strange

I took my phone out to see my dear sister Florea calling me.

I wonder why She would call me.

If you are thinking that why wouldn’t she call me as she is my sister than, you all are so wrong. Florea Kellner my elder sister is somewhat of a ignorant person when it comes to my life and know how, that doesn’t mean that she don’t love me and all instead she loves me so much that when aunt sally once scolded and literally slapped for punching his son Matt’s nose, when that piece of a shit person was bullying the other student in our school to the level that the student started self-hurt. The student name was Shaun Evans.

He was my only friend in the high school because I was always an outcast child in the school from which every student stay away or just doesn’t consider them worthy enough to have their attention. When I saw Matt bullying him literally making him take his clothes off in front of his whole gang and rub his nose on Matt’s shoe.

I am not usually a violent person but when I see some innocent being abused then I can’t see anything else and that’s what happened that day. When I saw the scene in front of me happening, I just lost my temper and pushed Matt hard on ground. His friends ran in fear that they might caught for bullying.

Still, I didn’t hit him but, when he grabbed my collar and threaten hurt me if I get involve in the matter. He thought I would be scared and leave, so he left me and moved toward Shaun again. I came in time and called him while I made my hand ready to mess his already shit face more. As he turned, I punched him with all my might. The force pushed him back, hitting with the locker behind him and the open door of the locker hit him in the head hard and he started bleeding from his nose and back of his head.

After all of this happened and Aunt Sally slapped me, Flo came in between and fought with her to raise her hand on me. That girl was literally on aunt’s face, asking her,

“How dare you slapped her? What is her fault in all of this? Its your son that you should teach some manners as he clearly, he lacks that. He is the one bullying other students around, not my sister. She did right by slapping Matt. He deserves it. You should be thankful that Shaun’s family didn’t file a case against Matt, or he would have rotted in jail for year or two at minimum.”

Aunt just stood speechless as what Flo said was all true and she was shocked at how Flo reacted in the situation. After that aunt started disliking us. . . even more.

So, in short, Flo is a loving sister, but she wouldn’t be putting her nose in my business to know what’s happening in my life until I told her so or things become too visible to give attention.

So yeah, that’s us. That’s why I am curious about her calling me.

I answered the call, “Hey Flo.”

“Hey Thea” she responded. She always calls me shortcake and never called me by my name. something’s wrong. Her voice sounded a bit hoarse like she cried.

“Flo, all good? You don’t sound well. Is everything fine?”

“Yeah. . . everything’s fine. Just wanted to know how you are and when will you be coming.” Still, something is wrong. My intuitions about Flo had never been wrong.

“Actually - -” She started speaking again, when the voice become distant like someone took the phone from her. A bit of noises was heard in the back then it all become silent.

Suddenly I heard mum’s voice coming through the phone, “Hey darling. How are you? Are you still in Amazon?”

“Hey Mumma, your darling is all fit and fine. Yeah, I am still there. I am thinking about spending two more days before I head to Rio de Janeiro, will stay there for a week then. All good na, Mumma?” I spoke.

“Yeah Darling, All’s well here. We tried to call you before, but you were unreachable, so we just became a little worried about you, nothing else is there to be thinking about.” She assured me.

There were still some voices behind saying something but, it’s not clear. I hear mum saying something back.

“Hey, you guys, would you stop bickering on the back and tell me exactly what happened because one thing I am sure that something is wrong. Now tell me, please.”

With a big sigh on the other side came after which mum started speaking and what she said was something I was not prepared for hearing.

“Thea, your father. . . he is not well since almost a month. His condition is not that good also. He keeps asking about you and when will you be coming. We didn’t want to put you through tension while you are so far from us that’s why we waited but now. . . I think - - - ” She stopped for a second and my heartbeat was racing with fear, as her silence was painful.

“It’s time, you should come back home.”

This sentence was all it took in me to shiver in fear. My hand was sweating even in the cold temperature. I keep rubbing my hand on the pant in tension and took deep breaths before saying anything.

“Thea, Darling. You there?”

“For a month he’s been ill, and no one told me anything about it, Mamma?” I asked in painful frustration.

How could they hide something so important from me.

“We didn’t want you to worry, your father asked us not to tell. He knows how important this trip is for you.”

“Not important than my family. How could you all hide this big thing from me. What exactly happened to him? What did the doctor say?”

“We are sorry darling, but now we are telling you so, just take tomorrow’s flight from Rio de Janeiro and come back. We will tell you everything when you are here.”

“Okay Mumma, I am Coming Back Tomorrow.”
