"You had your cell phone, didn't you?" Jessie didn't respond. "I should have frisked you myself." The woman shouted angry words to the men on the flybridge, calling them every name in the book. Seconds later, she gripped Jessie's chin, as punishing words flew out of her mouth in rapid succession. "If you remember nothing else about this day, bitch, you remember this...for the rest of your days on earth, you'd better look over your shoulder because we will be watching you."
Although Jessie reveled from the sound of panic in her voice, Rena's threat sent a shiver down her spine.
"Full throttle," Rena screamed.
The sudden jolt from low gear to high jerked Jessie's head back against the cushion as Hernandez raced to get away from Harbor Patrol. Holding onto the edge of the cushion behind her, concern for Joanie rushed to the forefront of her mind, and she threaded her left ankle over Joanie's, and together, they braced for what was ahead.
