“If Reed and Wells take the deals, it is.”

“Thank God.”

Quint patted Trev’s shoulder then, gathering up the photos, said, “I’ll let you get back to work.”

“Will you keep me…updated, I guess, on what happens?”

“Of course.”

“Thank you.”

It was Zack’s day off, so he wasn’t terribly surprised when Trev called him at four-thirty to say he’d just gotten home from work. He wasa bit surprised when Trev said, “If you don’t have anything planned, would you like to come over for dinner? I bought steak.”

“Sure,” Zack replied. He chuckled. “Payday? Or you raked in the tips.”

“Both? Say, in an hour?”

“You bet. I’ll see you then.” He’d barely hung up when Quint called to tell him that Carter and Alberts were under arrest and to fill him in on the details. “I take it you’ve already told Trev,” he said when Quint finished.

“Yes. In person. I showed him pictures of the men we arrested, and he fingered one of them as the second of Pierce’s killers.”
