When Cyril opened the door, he was very surprised to find who was standing.
"Finally, I found you. I thought I saw you in this ward but you vanished suddenly. I kept on searching for you but it took so long. Sigh, it's really nice to have someone we know here, right?" The man smiled with a cheeky smile.
Cyril couldn't help but smile back and nod his head.
"Come inside. I forgot that you are in this ward as well," Cyril let him sit in the chair while he sat on the bed.
Rian looked around the den and smiled, "It's okay. Anyway we met once we entered. Your place looks so clean. When I saw the dens in the first ward I was scared that all the places in the prison would be as bad. Looks like I was wrong."
Cyril shook his head, "We can't be sure. Who knows how clean and how dirty the others kept their dens? Luckily I found a good one for myself."
"Yes, lucky for you. I too should look for dens to buy now. Are they very costly? I heard they almost took half of our monthly allowance for one piece of land? Is that true?" Rian was scared to use all those points just to buy a piece of land. He looked very worried.
The Ward 3 had prisoners of inmates from level 41 to level 60. So, their monthly allowances ranged between 41k to 60k points.
A good piece of land was around 20k to 25k points.
So, it is not an exaggeration to say that one good piece of land costs half of their monthly allowance.
Since all the inmates wouldn't exactly live using just their monthly allowance but they would also earn by finishing their tasks, many wouldn't worry to buy one piece of land to live.
After all, once the land was bought, it would be with them forever. There was no need to buy it every month. So, it would be a good decision to buy. But only if one was in the first half of the levels.
For instance, in Ward 3, if they were between level 41 and level 50, it would be better for them to buy land. Others may level up fast and leave this ward. It would waste their points.
Cyril saw that Rian's level was 56 and he felt it would be a waste for him to buy a piece of land.
He calmly answered Cyril's questions first, "yes. The lands are very costly. What level are you anyway?"
"Me? I am fifty-six. Why do you ask?" Rian had no issue revealing his details in front of Cyril at all.
Cyril was actually surprised by his honest reply but did not show it on his face as he smiled, "If you are fifty-six, then it would be a waste for you to buy a piece of land. After all, you have to just gain five levels and you could be out of this ward. You wouldn't need that land once you are out of this ward, right?"
Rian blinked his eyes and suddenly widened them, "I did not think of it that way at all. I saw that everyone was buying their own lands and thought that I should as well. But as you said, it would really be a big waste. But will I be able to gain five levels that easily? If I did not, where would I stay until then?"
Cyril chuckled at his honest expression, "What are you worrying about? Aren't I here? You can just stay here. Let's share my place."
"What? Stay with you? You wouldn't mind?"
"Of course now. Aren't we friends already?" Cyril asked.
If it was anyone else, Cyril wouldn't have let them stay in his den. After all, he wouldn't trust anyone easily.
But Rian's honest reactions touched him. He felt that it wouldn't be bad if he could stay with this cheerful kid while he stayed in Ward 3.
Rian smiled happily, "Yes, yes. We are friends. But I can't let you let me stay here for free. Let me pay with something. Give me a cost and I will pay."
Cyril smiled and relented, "Sure. If you want to. Let's do this. You can just pay me some rent while you stay here. Is that okay?"
Rian blinked his eyes. He had never heard of staying in rented places in a prison. He was shocked but in the end nodded, "Sure."
Cyril smiled and said, "Okay. Then let me prepare a contract."
"Contract?" Rian did not know that there are contracts inside a prison.
"Yes. For rents and stuff, there are contracts. These contracts are binded with our systems. So, if anyone breaks the contract, the system automatically pays the penalty. Since we are having transactions with points, I think it would be safe for both of us to use a contract." Cyril explained patiently.
When Rian heard the words 'safe for both of us', he felt relieved.
Even though they are friends, they had known each other for not even a couple of hours. So using a contract wouldn't be useful just for Cyril but also for Rian. Cyril was really thinking for both of them and this point satisfied him greatly.
He nodded.
"Okay, let me draft up a contract immediately," Cyril smiled.
He saw that among his tasks were:
[Make a friend: +100xp
Draft a contract: +20xp]
He really wished this works and he gains these both points.
Also to draft a contract, he had to purchase a -Contract stamp- which costed 1500xp.
But, like a piece of land, this stamp is also a life-long asset. Once he buys it, he can use this stamp for as long as he stays in this prison.
As a businessman, he was used to trusting a legally bound contract compared to a word given by a person. So, he was sure he would use the contract stamp many times compared to how many times he eats.
Hence he did not care about the price and bought the stamp at once.
There is also a -Contract drafter- which costed 3000xp.
According to his monthly allowance, it was costly for him but as he said earlier he would draft a contract more time than he would eat. So, he sighed and bought the contract drafter.
-Balance-
[Dear user,
Your current balance is: 59500xp]
Cyril mentally calculated all his expenses. He got 66k as a monthly allowance. He bought the den for 2k. A contract stamp for 1.5k and a contract drafter for 3k. After calculating, he confirmed that the balance the system showed was correct and sighed in relief.
He was still scared to trust this system.
He used the contract drafter to draft a contract which only took a couple of minutes. Once the contract was ready, he showed it to Rian.
Rian was a sportsman. He had signed many contracts before coming to the prison. He knows how to read a contract. He scanned through it immediately.
Once he was satisfied, he signed his name at the end of the contract and both their systems dinged showing a contract was signed between both their systems.
Cyril did not care about that but he immediately checked his tasks.
Sadly the tasks weren't marked done and he realized that what the big guy had told him was correct indeed.
He couldn't earn any points by finishing tasks while he stayed in this ward.
