The System

Axel slowly woke up from a surprisingly restful sleep in the middle of the night. He felt really good, no signs of fatigue or any kind of aches. He noticed that his clothes had been changed, and that someone had given him a sponge bath, but that didn't bother him much.

"I can't believe all of this really happened to me..." he softly talked to himself. "Now what to do? I'm in a new world now, a world filled with powerful threats, both outside and within."

His predecessor's mother dying, and his predecessor dying soon after, was to suspicious for Axel. It was obvious to him that someone had tried to get rid of both of them. And had succeeded for the most part. Elizabeth was a stunning woman and a powerful magician. She was quite popular and loved by the king, more so than the actual queen, Lisa Bradheim.

"It would be bad to die again shortly after arriving" he said, shivering in horror at the thought of going back to the non-being state of death. "Really bad... I should do something to ensure my survival first... Now that I think about it, did I get anything extra from that transmigration? From what little I could see in that small period of time, that meteor that killed me was a little weird... Alright, let's try it... Status!"

[ Name: Erwin Bradheim - Race: Human male - Age: 14

"Yes!!!" he whisper shouted while brandishing his fist toward the sky. "As expected, the gamer system..." he continued while starting to sob.

Being transmigrated after death was already a big miracle. To say that having a cheat, a gamer system at that, was the cherry on top of the cake, would be a massive understatement.

"Wait, Meister? Isn't that the class of alchemists in Kamidori Alchemist Meister? ... Now that I think about it, I was just starting a new playthrough when the meteorite killed me. Did I get that class because of that? Did I get anything else from the game? Skills."

"Oh, the interface is quite different from the game. In the game, there is no "combat" skill, no details for the synthesis skill, and the skill window only listed the skills used on the battle map. Skills didn't need to rank up (even though there were some upgraded skills), only weapon masteries, which went from F to A, S and finally M. My synthesis rank must be the reason why my class is Meister."

He went back to bserving the status window.

"The amount of health, mana and stamina increased, probably related to the attributes, since they changed as well. I can recognise the numbers I assigned with the cheat programs. Intelligence was replaced by wisdom, resistance by spirit... It seem like speed and movement were combined into agility, hit and evasion into dexterity, and service and command into charisma... Something that is much more to my taste... It seems that my own preferences have affected how the system present informations."

It took a few seconds for him to notice.

"Since those are the stats I gave myself with the cheat programs, does that mean I have the items I gave myself in an inventory right now? Inventory!"

The inventory was divided into 6 sections: consummables, weapons, equipment, clothes, furnitures and materials, and they were full of items. Recovery potions, fabric improvement products, mythril weapons, enchanted jewelry with stats boosts, mythril shields, good quality bedroom and store furnitures, good quality crafting and engineering tools, rares, if not unique items and machines, some mines, a hot spring, and a whole lot of basic, advanced and rare materials.

Finally, he discovered he had 2500 gold coins. He remembered the currency in the game was santoerils, and he had given himself 250 000 of them. He guessed it had been converted to the local currency.

The known world was made of 2 continents and a massive archipelago, and neither of the 3 was completly mapped. Each one of them used a currency system based on copper coins, silver coins, gold coins and platinium coins. Their shapes, sizes and composition varied from regions to regions, and so did their value. The prints also changed depending on where the coins were made. There was typically a racial print on one side, and a kingdom print on the other. He took one of his coins out and inspected it. It was a featureless gold coin.

"Well, I kinda get it. Realistically, gold is too precious to be used for the most basic currency coins, so the santoerils coins couldn't be made completly of gold. My in-game fortune was converted into pure gold coins... That's not a small amount of money. And quite usefull, considering my current situation."

The Darkmoor region was a large piece of land, covering about 1/16th of the total size of Heizenbourg kingdom. It was also the most problematic one. The amount of farming land available was small. There was a large toxic marsh and a wide mountain range full of dangerous magical beasts. The largest piece of land was made of dark rocky plains on which nearly nothing could grow. Finally, on top of tge magical beasts, there were also a lot of barbarians.

The so-called barbarians races were primitives semi-nomadic races that lived of hunting, and more importantly, raiding. They were the goblins, trolls, kobolds, lizardmen, giants/cyclops and vampires. They were a constant problem for all the countries of the known world. At least, magical beasts tended to stay in their territories unless they had a surge in their populations.

Goblins and vampires were the most problematics. Goblins reproduced using other female humanoid races. They had such high fertility that each pregnancies gave at least triplets. The pregnancies were fast, and the newborns quickly grew to a mature state. A goblin group could quadruple its size in 2 months. Vampires fed on the bloods of intelligent races. Their victims turned into ghouls, who turned other people into ghouls. Sometimes, the ghoul turned by a vampire would turn into a new vampire.

They were considered a barbarian plague by everyone. Whenever their presence was detected, a suppression raid by mercenaries and military forces was quickly organised. Darkmoor had its share of barbarians races. Their numbers were limited by the available ressources and the magical beasts, but still a constant threat.
