The Nightmare

I was restless in bed. But, eventually sleep came. It was either a dream, nightmare, or a warning. Warnings were part of a curse that was put on the royal family. I always dreaded them, but, they were inevitable.

I fell asleep, and as soon as I found myself standing in a black room, I knew this was a warning.

I see a clone of myself walk into the room, followed by my family. The warning has started.

I slip on my white gloves, the intricate lace decorating my wrist. I look down at the traitor. The one who betrayed us.

Nothing was the same, not anymore. Now it was as if a dead bird called through the night. Destined to be prey, destined to die. Slowly growing closer, the impending doom, a gun to my head, waiting for someone to pull the trigger. I could feel the knife along my throat before it was there, suffocation choking me before someones hands were around my neck. Death was now part of my being. I welcomed it with open arms and a smile. Like an old friend.

When I do feel the last moments of my life flash by, I will accept it. I even look forward to it, and when it finally comes, I will be happy about it.

Nothing was the same now that I am the reason people die, and one day...

The reason I die.

I slip off my bloodied gloves, the lace tattered and frayed. I look up at the shocked faces of my family. The traitor would never betray us again.

I stumble back from my subconscious, what does this mean? I look sadly at the now dead man. I didn't recognise him. Would I really kill him? Would I really do such a... a... despicable thing.

I realise someone is calling my name, someone in the real world. I bring myself to wake up, and come face to face with my sister.

"What are you doing in my room?" I ask, very much awake, but feigning drowsiness for my sisters sake. If I wasn't sleepy, she would suspect a warning, and I could not dive into whatever had just happened.

"To see the bride on her wedding night of course! How are you feeling? He is quite handsme isn't he? I wouldn't mind getting married if I knew HE were going to be the suitor!" She sighed wistfully, I rolled my eyes at her naive self.

"I'm fine, thank you. And lily?"

"Yes?"

"Vampires are SUPPOSED to be handsome, if he wasn't I would have suspected foul play."

She rolled her eyes at my bluntness, but her smile was still beaming. I was tired, I hadn't slept for 32 hours, what with all the nerves and churning stomach, but now I really needed sleep. Tomorrow I was to go to the Vampire palace and I had to present myself with the utmost grace.

"Look Lily, it is time for bed, go back to your room and get some shut eye." Lily was still a princess in training. I was 19, well she was a cheerful 12 year old. Since I was leaving for the Vampire Kingdom, she was needed in the Human one.

"You PROMISE to wake me up? Because you're waking up super duper early, and I want to say goodbye!" She held up her pinky. We had invented it as a sort of pact, we called it a 'pinky swear'. Some kids in the village saw it once, and it was becoming a popular thing.

"Promise." I linked my pinky with hers, gave her a hug, then she ran out and went back to her room.

I sighed, I was going to miss these midnight conversations. I fell into a dreamless sleep. Dreading tomorrow.
