I did it.
I told them all I thought that mattered.
From being kidnapped to getting revenge, all to kill again, and choosing to leave FENRIR's lives behind.
I would later be transported on a routine mission, only to crash here and gain the life I have now…or should I say had.
(Come on don't think that way.)
Did you see the look on Erina's face? She didn't-she was scared of me. I've killed for revenge as well as self-defense and the shock from knowing I did it once already turned her away from me.
Kanon too…
I don't think I even have Emil as a friend anymore.
Maybe no one…
(Now that's enough of that. You'll have time to mend things and they didn't react as badly as they could.)
After I told them, everyone just…split for the night.
Erina wouldn't look me in the eye.
Emil just…up and left without a word.
I didn't have the guts to look at Kanon's reaction, but it didn't take long for her to follow suit.
I didn't know what I was expecting.
(You've committed, that's all that matters brother.)
After my "confession", I ended up being led to my room by Tatsumi.
Mr.Awkward tried his best to console me, but I don't remember anything he said.
I hit the bed on arrival and just slept. When I woke up it was morning and I flopped on the couch.
"Sorry about dropping you." I said, peeking over toward Sameem.
(I'll get over it. We haven't got any messages from Mr.Awkward, what do you want to do?)
By now I would usually have Kanon or Erina knock on my door in the morning and we'd go train.
I would usually participate in everything, but the running since I couldn't go outside.
I was hardly in the mood though.
With a sad sigh sunk my head into the couch cushion.
(Right then…I'll just let you think about it. They got any love juice in here?)
Knock Knock Knock
(Dammit I was about to hit the fridge.)
With a start, I arose from the couch and stared at the door.
No way it was Kanon or Erina. I only told them my story 10 hours ago. It hadn't been a day.
(Probably Tatsumi, hurry and answer so I can raid the fridge before we leave.)
At no urgent behest, I went to answer the door.
"Good morning!!!" A gleeful Kanon practically sang as she presented a container full of breakfast food she likely cooked herself.
"Morning." I said.
"I hope you haven't eaten yet, I brought enough for 3! Maybe 4, if I used too much again." Kanon said as she entered my room.
"Don't you always?" I joked as I closed the door behind her.
"Only way to find out, is to dig in!" Kanon said removing the lid, letting the aroma of pancakes and muffins fill the room.
As I became entranced by the smell, It took a moment to dawn on me that this was more or less my usual routine with Kanon.
As—-usual…
(Like you didn't just tell her you killed two guys and went to prison forever over "killing" 7 more.)
I had to catch myself in the middle of eating a muffin to inspect Kanon's demeanor.
It was like yesterday never happened for her.
Which I found very hard to believe.
With the muffin still in my mouth, I stared at Kanon.
Once she caught me, Kanon stared at the muffin with concern.
"Is that one no good?" she asked.
I was still thrown off that her concern was the food.
"It's fine Kanon." I swiftly ate the rest of the muffin in one bite to prove it.
"If you're getting tired of the muffins, go ahead and give these a try." Kanon offered a plate of biscuits.
"Your cooking has never been a problem Kanon." I said with a serious tone. While at the same time chucking a biscuit into my jaws.
"So nothing's wrong?" she asked.
"I didn't say that." I replied.
"Did I do something wrong?" Kanon asked.
"No." I said quickly. I felt miserable until she showed up.
"What do you want me to do? What can I do?" Kanon asked a bit frantically.
I almost lost my voice in response to those questions.
"That's not the point Kanon." I said, trying to keep my composure.
"What's the problem then?" she asked, shifting towards me.
"You don't think I'm the problem?" I said.
"You? No! I can't think of a time you've ever been for anyone." Kanon said bumping against the table.
"Everything I told you, including my fake name, my prison sentence, and murders included?" I didn't want to sound mean or distrustful, but I just vented what was basically my life story and sins and Kanon showed like any other day.
Minus Erina, but I was just grateful someone showed up.
"I already knew Sano wasn't your real name. That's why I wasn't that mad about it." Kanon said.
(Seriously!?)
"You knew?" I asked, more off put than ever.
"Yeah as a stand-alone Sano Shimazaki would be a Far East name and bar old people there's no one with your hair color from here. Our friend Brandon has white hair, but he's American. Gina, too I think. Also, Sano is kind of like half a name. It would've been more convincing if you used Sanomaru Shimazaki or Sanosuke. It threw me off that you knew decent Japanese because most of the material needed to learn was lost post-Aragami." Kanon explained in further detail how she knew Sano Shimazaki was a fake name, going into how English would become the dominant language among FENRIR branches and a whole lot more.
(GOOD GOD!)
I have never once thought Kanon was dumb, but seeing how she analyzed a single name, made me feel like I'd been underestimating her.
"Oh hold on, I was getting way off track! Point is I'm over the name. I can start calling you your real name right?" Kanon asked scooting close to me.
"Yeah." I said with a smile.
"Sanguine?" She said.
"Right." I said. My name was Sanguine Vasken. Now she knew it and everyone else too.
(Well….at-least the name things over…oy…)
"Nice to meet you Sanguine." Kanon said reaching her hand towards me.
I took it and we shook, for the "first" time. I wanted to take in the moment and just laugh. But Kanon still hadn't answered in full.
(I think she's dodging brother.)
"(I have to keep pressing this then.)Kanon I won't take it personally if you don't feel the same about me even a little bit." I said solemnly.
I felt Kanon grasp my hand tightly and she pressed it down in front of her.
What Kanon said next shocked me.
"I don't care that you killed them." Kanon's face was pressed against mine and I saw her blue eyes void of any doubt, almost cold.
No desperation, no harsh sentiment, she spoke plain.
(RED FLAG, RED FLAG, RED FLAG!)
"Even if you killed them all yourself I still wouldn't care." Kanon added, to my utter shock.
(RED FLAG! RE-NO! PINK FLAG! PINK FLAG! PINK FLAG!)
I didn't notice that Sameem frantically squirmed and his core flashed.
I was too preoccupied on Kanon.
She meant every word. She really didn't care…
We were nose to nose. I could take in her scent. She looked so unapologetic, it was almost scary.
I started feeling weird.
Without realizing it, I pressed my head against hers and I started sliding toward her.
Kanon raised our hands and put them against my chest. She put her free hand on my shoulder.
I had my free arm around Kanon.
Impulsive as I was, I couldn't help but tremble in Kanons presence. Happy and scared at the same time.
She tells me being a killer doesn't bother her and my first instinct is to kiss her.
I think I might be more afraid of myself if I'm being honest.
Kanon moved her head towards mine, and I was ready to let go of what little reason I had left.
RIIIIIIIIINNNNG
Up until the Aragami alert went off.
Kanon was the one who pulled us apart.
"We have to go." she said with a serious, yet remorseful tone.
I quickly kissed her hand and nodded. Leaving the food where it was, I followed after Kanon outside summoning Sameem.
