The Man:
Dodging Batman's foot as he tries to stomp my head, I swing my foot up and kick Batman in the chest. Stumbling back and giving me some space, I jump to my feet and use my kunai to cut myself free.
"That's better," I say, spreading out my arms. Looking at Batman as he recovers, I look back at Wonder Woman as she gets up and screams. "Son of a bastard."
Looking between the two as they keep on advancing, I bring up my kunai knives.
Supergirl:
"Kara," Superman starts, the red fading from his eyes. "Please. It's not too late. You can still join us. Be a regime. Leave these people behind."
"These people didn't leave me in a cell for three months," I say.
"You left me no choice."
"You betrayed everything we believe in. No, everything the House of El believes in. Our family."
"We are all that is left of our family. Of our race. Just two orphans send to a planet filled with nothing destruction and death. I was able to change that. My One Earth Government changed this planet for the better. Yes, a few lives had to be lost but isn't that worth it."
"That's the problem, Kal-El. It wasn't just a few lives, and even if it was, that doesn't make it worth it."
"Foolish girl," Black Adam says, aiming his hand at me. However, Superman punches him away, leaving the two of us alone.
"Kara," Kal-El says. "I didn't want this. I didn't want any of this, but this is what had to be done. To ensure peace, I must use violence. I must show the criminals that this is what happens when you break the law."
"Is controlling Batman something you must do?"
I see the red return to Kal-El's eyes, only seconds before he fires lasers from them. Firing lasers from my own eyes, our attacks push against each other.
"Controlling my best friend is something I didn't want to do this but something I must do," Kal-El says, his laser pushing against mine. "I didn't want to do it but he left me no choice. You left me no choice. I didn't want to do any of this, but everyone left me no choice."
His screams pour more power into his lasers, I couldn't keep it up. His lasers push my laser further and further back until I can feel the heat from them.
As I try and keep them up, I see The Man fighting both Batman and Wonder Woman. Blocking a swing from Wonder Woman, they push against each other. However, with his focus on Wonder Woman, he didn't see Batman throwing batarangs at him from behind. The batarangs hit him directly where Wonder Woman cut him earlier, they explode and force him to his knees. On his knees now, Wonder Woman then kicks him in the head and onto the floor.
"Nooo," I yell.
The Man:
"Nooo," Kara screams, looking to see her unleash a massive beam that overtakes Superman's lasers. Hitting and knocking him back, she then rockets toward me. Flying into Wonder Woman, she knocks her away before turning to face mind-controlled Batman. Tossing some batarangs, Kara simply blows all of them away, the batarangs exploding all over Batman.
"Are you okay," she asks, grabbing and helping me to my feet. My arms hanging over her, I look her in her eyes.
"I am okay," I reply, feeling my back. "Nothing some ice packs won't fix. Are you okay?"
"What? Of course, I'm okay. I'm not the one that had a bunch of exploding batarangs go off on me."
"Yeah but you are the one that got shocked by some magical douchebag. Trust me, I know a thing or two about being 'shocked'. So again, are you okay?"
"Neither of you two will be okay," Wonder Woman says, getting back on the bridge, her sword and shield drawn.
Kara and I turn around, we turn back when we hear Batman stomp his feet on the bridge. About to suggest flying away, Superman and Black Adam then appear by our sides.
"You're surrounded," Superman says, his eyes going red. "Give up now, or prepare for a combined assault."
Reaching for a kunai in my jacket, Superman burns it out of my hand. Dropping my knife, Superman then points below.
"You're out of option," he says, "All of you."
Looking down, we see soldiers and betas surround everyone else. There are no raging roots or cold beams or sonic screams or even gunshots. Everyone's back is literally against the wall.
"As I said, you're out of option. All of you."
"Maybe not all of us," I whisper to Kara. "Come on. Pick up. Pick up."
Anthony Higgins:
"No, no, no, no, no," I repeat, squeezing my head. "That can't be. That can't be."
I couldn't believe my eyes. Through the cameras, I can see everyone as their backs are shoved against the wall. Green Arrow is out of arrows. Captain Cold had run dry. Even Black Canary is out of breath. There is nothing they can do. Supergirl and The Man themselves are surrounded by the big three. And Batman.
"No, no, no, no, no. Come on. Come on, please. There had to be something you can do. Do something. Do somethin--."
About to grab my screen and shake it, I hear my phone go off. Ignoring it at first, I start to hear beeps after beeps.
"What," I say, grabbing my phone. "A bunch of text messages? From an unknown?"
I unlock the screen and start to read the message. Only, it wasn't just a message but there's also a massive attachment.
About to delete the messages, I stop when I notice what most of them read.
"Higgin, pick up now," the first message states. "Pick up now. Higgin, answer this. Answer the message, Higgins."
"Upper case H. A coma after my name. A period at the end of the sentence. These are proper sentences, and only one person text like this."
I answer The Man's message and immediately, I see what he needs me to do.
The Man:
Superman and his three regimes closing in on us, Kara and I look at each other.
"Please tell me you have an idea," Kara says. "I mean, don't you have some secret power?"
"I rather not use my powers," I reply, "It's too dangerous."
"Wait, what do you mean by dangerous?"
"Don't ask, and don't worry. I have one final trick up my sleeve."
Looking down through the grates in the bridges, I smile when I see the betas' eyes go from red to green.
"Hey Flyboy," I say, smiling at Superman. "If I were you, I would look out for any betas."
"What," Superman asks before we all hear screaming coming from below. Looking down, we see the betas now attacking the soldiers. Grabbing and tossing them aside, the betas jump the soldiers.
"What's going on," Superman screams, looking at the soldiers as they are forced back. "Cyborg. Cyborg, answer me. What is going on with the betas?"
"Someone hacked into the betas' frequently," Cyborg's voice answers through Superman's earpiece. "They turning them against us."
Hearing more screaming and blaster fire, I notice Black Adam and Wonder Woman have turned away too. Reaching for more kunai in my pockets, I grab a handful and toss them all around us.
"Watch out," I say, grabbing and holding Kara as the kunai I just tossed all explode.
Harleen:
"Uuuhhh," I groan, looking around as the betas start fighting the soldiers. Disarmming and tossing them around, I look at the others. "Did I miss something? Did something happen? What's going on?"
Before Selina or Oliver or Dinah or even Cheetah can answer, we hear a large explosion go off right above our heads. Seeing the bridge fall toward us, we all jump out of the way as the bridge crashes into the ground.
"Everyone," The Man says, he and Supergirl among the broken railings. "Get ready. We're getting out of here."
Superman:
I scream as I wave the black smoke away.
"What? What happens?"
Using my yellow ring, I summon a fan to blow out the smoke. The second it's gone, I see Kara Zor-El and The Man gone, along with the bridge.
Realizing what happened, I look down to see a portal open up and everyone quickly jump in.
"Nnnooo," I say, flying toward the portal as fast as I can. Kara herself jumping through, The Man looks at me as he put his foot through. Our eyes lock, he steps on through before I could reach him. The portal vanishing before my eyes, I crash into the bridge.
Thank you very much and I hope this brings a bit of delight to your day. For the record, you should know, the book is coming to an end.
