With a 20% boost to his ability, Sato became much stronger than before. He could roughly rival the kraken before it went berserk but he was on the lower end of the scale after that. Now, however, although he wasn't overwhelmingly superior to it, Sato could still tank the blows of the monster with no effort. But with a health bar so low that only a hit would turn him to stardust, Sato still had to be careful in a one-on-one fight. Hence, not only did he have to avoid getting hit, but Sato also had to dodge rather than block. This was because blocking an attack only blocked the medium of the attack, but the force would still be transmitted into his body.
Even with Landon's [Enveloping Light] spell, a violent tremor would be enough to weaken, if not defuse the effects of the spell. At that point, Sato would suffer from his injuries once again and die on the spot even if the kraken refrained from attacking.
