16. Independence (minor change)

1942, India

Japan has started the the invasion of Burma at the end of December last year. British are raising another army to march on the Burma front to counter them. I am not going to do anything right now other than deploying my agents to every city and government offices. I have been getting reports from Ganga and these officer that the British forces are very hard pressed now because of their veteran commanders dying every other month. So, I ordered Indian soldiers to stop the assassination of their commanders for now. Hitler hasanaged to capture Yugoslavia, Ostland and is in war with USSR.

But, I am not going to involve myself other than selling standard weapons to Allies and profiting from this war. Later on this money from arms industry will be used for India as all the defence industry and it's technology will be handed over to government. And so the war continued in the original world other than some major losses by Britain because of the loss of veteran commanders.

During this war I was also able to secretly smuggle thorium and plutonium from Africa and America and have stored them in barren uninhabited areas for now.

1943, Bengal, India

Britishers to supply their army and to keep food prices stable in their country started looting food from Bengal to be transported to UK but before they can do it I started the first violent struggle against them and retook whatever food I can from them and burned the ships with the food before they can take it to their country. But, even after my efforts I was not able to take away enough food for whole Bengal. Thinking fast I ordered my party to ask people to take fast twice a week and donate that food for Bengal, specially in coastal cities and states as they can transport food faster than others.

That's how we were able to face a famine that would have killed millions. It's not that people didn't die but they were limited to remote villages where food wasn't able to reach on time. Muslim League tried to start riots by hoisting green flags in temples and saffron flags in masjid but I was ready and captured there man and have them killed beneath thousands of people's feet. Brutal, yes but better they die than thousands in riots started by them.

Seeing that government didn't take any action against them my suspicions grew that Burma was seprated just to see the reaction of people to a future division for Pakistan and that Muslim League was in cohorts with colonial government as they knew that they will never became the head of a country otherwise ever in their life.

August 1945,

After the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki suddenly Indian soldiers started deserting their posts. Britain was not able to effectively counter this due to loss of several commanders over the period of war and the current high ranking officers were promoted too fast for them to gain enough respect from the native British soldiers. Seeing this soldiers from their other colonies also started deserting but since they were not organised they didn't cause any great damage other than weaken Britain.

Suddenly news started coming of British supplies of arms and food was being plundered by unknown soldiers and they leave no one alive and burn what they can't carry.

Again news came that at night many British vessels and submarines were captured by them and taken away. This made them the laughing stock in all the allied countries. Soon these ships were sighted in Africa where they resupplied with the help of rebels their in exchange for some weapons and then went straight to India.

This move reduce the strength of Britain drastically as they have to call soldiers from their homeland as they can't trust the soldiers from the colonies.

December, 1945, India

By the end of November every naval vessel captured by Indian soldiers have arrived in Indian ports. I have also convinced the soldiers of INA of Subhash Chandra Bose to work with me after Netaji's death. On that matter, I smell conspiracy in how Netaji died but have no evidence.

With help of this army I started the first armed struggle against colonial rule from South India and East India. I slowly started capturing cities and government offices and starting from Myanmar, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. I also ordered my men in different British colonies of Indian Ocean to start rebellion in their areas as well to devide their focus. These colonies will join India as a fellow nation that suffered under their rule and as the leaders of these rebellion are my men or are influenced by them.

It didn't lead to conflict anywhere as my forces and citizen helped us in capturing and securing these places. We didn't rush it because if even one city is not properly secured than we will lose the momentum. As we matched further and further more and more people started joining us. By the end of September 1946 we have secured the South and East India due to the support I have from nobility and common people.

Seeing that they are losing Britain decided to secretly arrest me at night along with some important members of my party but we still didn't lose the momentum as I have kept my right hand man hidden for this eventuality.

So Hakim Khan, my right hand man and second in command took control of the struggle with full support of my party and nobility. Seeing their plan fail they decided to announce election in 1947 for the future govt. sighting not wanting to submerge India in dictatorship and then leave India.

But ofcourse it was just their ploy to decide India so that it never reaches the height it once had. But they didn't know me completely and unknown enemy is very dangerous. They think that I will be like Gandhi and Nehru and will bend over to their every demand just for so called peace and non violence.

Soon election occured and like my time only land holding families were allowed to vote and the decision was my parties victory with INC as my strongest opposition with 97 seats, 42 seats of many small regional parties, 11 seats by independent candidates and rest of the seats being won by my party.

These small parties emerged after seeing the support gathered my party and how my party became even more popular than INC. Muslim League was able to win in Part of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

So, Mountbatten decided to devide the Indian subcontinent in two parts India and Pakistan with princely states free to join whichever country they want. This time they were not able to win in Bengal due to my actions during famine and I also took advantage of unstable govt. in Burma by capturing of cities and government offices and the local rebels also supported me.

Next day on 15th August 1947 I was released from the prison in a free and independent India.
