"He did what!?"
"I don't know what to do anymore."
I sigh.
I tried calling Matt this morning but his phone is off. Again
"What you should do is dump his sorry ass. I still can't believe you forgave him after what he did to you."
My best friend Kim and I are currently sitting in this little retro coffee shop a couple of blocks away from our University. Not many students know about this little piece of heaven, we discovered it when we were first years last year. It is now our little spot. It is filled with quirky, warm furniture that makes you feel like you are transported into someone's magical home. We love it.
Kim and I met last year when we were both freshmen. We both are doing the same course and when we met on the first day we just clicked. We have been best friends ever since.
Growing up I never really had a lot of friends since my parents were always traveling.
Unlike me, Kim has no filter for her mouth and she is not afraid to voice whatever thought is crossing her mind. It is one of the reasons why she doesn't get along well with the people in some of our classes.
She is one of those people with strong personalities that you can either hate or love but you can't be in the middle. Unfortunately, I love her to little bits.
"I know Matt is your first boyfriend but you can't excuse the way he is treating you. You deserve a straight answer." She says as she pops some jelly beans in her mouth. She always has them laying around in her purse.
I had just told her about Matt's visit last night and how he behaved and to say she is not happy is an understatement.
"I know I do, but you don't understand Kim. I feel like he needs me. He needs my help."
I give a desperate attempt to explain how I feel.
Kim lets out a heavy sigh and reaches out for my hand on the table.
"I know you care about him. It's in your nature to care about other people even those that don't deserve you-"
"Kim-" I try stopping her but she stops me first
"No, let me finish. I am not saying you should break up with him, I'm just saying you should get a straight answer out of him."
For some reason, Kim has never liked Matthew. She has never given me a reason why even though I always ask. Eventually, I decided to not let it bother me, especially since Matt is not fond of her either.
"Okay, I will call him and ask him to come over." I tell her
What I don't tell her is that he has not been answering his calls since he left last night. She would just give me one of her long lectures.
She pats my hand and gives me one of her rare sincere smiles instead, the ones that lack sarcasm. They are very rare.
"Listen, babe, I have got to love and leave you. I still haven't finished the Electro Tech project. Are you going to be okay?" She asked while standing up and grabbing her bag from the table.
I give her a reassuring nod.
"I thought you were done with that. You do know it's due tomorrow?" I ask her with a teasing smile on my lips because I know this will irritate her.
"Shut up Gloria it's as if you don't know that procrastination is my middle name."
She says emphasizing my full name because she knows it will irritate me.
"Low blow Kimberly." I say folding my hands across my chest and giving a small childish pout.
"Don't blame me Gloria blame your parents."
She blows me a kiss and is out of the cafe before I can even get a word in.
I sit in the cafe even after she has left just enjoying the calm and quiet atmosphere. Grateful that not a lot of students cared for the coffee shop. Kim lives on the university campus like most of the students but I stay outside school at a beach house my parents bought for me when I got accepted here.
Woodridge University is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Being a graduate from Woodridge practically guarantees you any job you want in your field of study. When it was first built 95 years ago on a remote island called Mutare in the pacific ocean.
It was nothing but a small village with a population of a hundred people but as the years went by more and more people moved to this little Island and people from different countries and cultures made it their home. The one thing I love about Mutare is the diversity of different people from different cultures and ethnicities. People here treat you with love and respect regardless of where you come from.
Mutare currently has a population of 90 000 permanent residents excluding university students. So the small village became a small university town.
I sigh as I think of how much I love this place. Getting accepted here has been the best thing to ever happen to me.
If only Matt was back to his normal carefree self. Then everything would be perfect.
I take out my phone and check if I have any messages. It's no surprise when I find none.
Where are you Matt?
