Chapter 39: Ending Things

Confused, she started for the front door. Brad stood in the doorway when she reached it.

“Find it?”

“No, I’m going out. I’ll have my cell phone.”

He opened the door and she brushed past him, surprised he wasn’t going to pick a fight. He followed her into the kitchen.

She grabbed her purse, keys, and her squad pager and headed for the garage. Glancing back, Brad gave her a knowing smile.

She mentally shrugged, not caring what he thought about her destination.

The rain pelted Chelsea as she ran from her car to the porch of Stone’s house. He opened the door as she got there, a grin on his face. “I’ve been expecting you.”

She felt sheepish and didn’t know why. They’d been lovers off and on for the whole year. “You know me and storms.”

“Yes, I do,” he said, closing the door behind her. He looked her up and down. “You’re wet. I guess you’ll have to take off those clothes.”
