In the Woods Somewhere

Hamish never really saw the point on legends, they are stories made for children who believe in magic. But then magic comes to him, first in his dreams and then in the form of a boy...or a wolf. Hamish knows there's something wrong with the town, he knows there are things being hidden on plan sight, but what he didn't expect was that making a search through the towns past would get him to find out about his own past, about the creatures that hide in the woods and above all: About who he truly is and to whom his heart truly belongs to. Hamish would find out the hard way that sometimes love is the biggest of curses and that he was more afraid of loving a man than becoming a wolf

I am not going to eat you

POV: Hamish

I won't lie, I was terrified

I didn't know where I was and I couldn't find my phone...I mean I know it was in pocket before but it just wasn't there anymore. I was also in a house filled with people I had never seen before and it didn't look like I could just leave whenever I wanted. There was someone tied up to a chair unconscious and of course, to complete, apparently some people had claws and glowing eyes

On the moment I was sitting in Jake Reynold's bed, his room looked pretty much like a store or at least how I imagined his store was like. He had books of old covers all around his desk, they seemed to be about medicinal herbs, runes and witchcraft. There were also incense tapers filling every corner, there was at least one in the window, one in the desk among books and one above the nightstand, though all of them were pretty much extinguished

Nevertheless the smell was still there, filling the place

His bedroom had things that reminded me of mine though, like pictures he took with his friends pined on the walls. Most of them had been taken with Monalisa but I could also recognize the blonde girl I had seen down stairs and the boy she had referred to as Theo. There was also one picture taken on a beach, on the picture Jake was smiling next to a red haired boy with green eyes, there was also a black dog in between them

"That's Alexander, Mona's brother" I almost jumped out of surprise, or maybe fear, when I heard his voice. Jake had pretty much locked me in there telling me to wait, and now there he was again, walking into the room like a ghost...I couldn't help but wonder if my dream was a warning, like something or someone was trying to warn me that I should protect myself from him "And that's the Bird's dog" Jake pointed back at the picture I had been staring at "Padfoot" I smiled still nervous "Good choice of name"

Looking down I walked back at his bed siting there and wishing the mattress would just sallow me and free me from that situation "Yeah, I know" Jake knelt down in front of me offering a glass of water "Here, this may help you calm down" I just shook my head "I don't want it...I've seen enough documentaries to know that-" before I could even finish he took a sip from the glass "See? It's safe, no one here is trying to poison you" "So what exactly are you trying yo do?" I asked finally accepting the glass and drinking it all in one sip, I hand't realized how thirst I was till then

"Is there anything else I can get you? Food, maybe?" I shook my head again but soon changed my mind looking up at him "Answers" with a sigh Jake sat down next to me on the bed, but kept a safe distance as if he knew I wouldn't be comfortable if he got closer "I can tell you...I can tell you everything but..." he rubbed the back of his neck "I am not sure how you'll take it and besides, my dad is going to kill me" his dad, could it be... "Kiam Haley, the guy who was talking to you down stairs" he explained as if he could read my mind "Are you worth the risk Hamish Myers?" I looked at the space between my feet...could that day get any weirder? I guess I was about to find out

"I am a werewolf" that was definitely the weirdest thing anyone had ever said to me, weird enough for me to start laughing, perhaps half of my laugh was coming from despair but still I kept laughing until I fell backward on the bed...but he wasn't laughing or chuckling or even smiling, in fact his face was stone cold "Oh shit, you are serious" I gulped sitting back up and trying to put myself back together "But...but...you can't be a...a...a werewolf...it's simply not possible" Jake simply raised an eyebrow "Is it though? Hamish just because you don't believe in something doesn't make it cease to exist.." he tilt his head making his curls dance "Come on Myers, you know what you saw in the carnival"

He was right, there was no rational explanation for that "So your aunt...is actually a...a witch?" he nodded proudly "She is...well, was" I gulped again avoiding his eyes "Are you going to eat me?" this time it was Jake who burst out laughing, apparently that wasn't the reaction he was expecting me to have "No, I am not going to eat you" he said trying to control himself but I could see that it wasn't going to stop him from being amused with my question "And I am certainly not going to huff and puff to destroy your house...I am not the big bad wolf" I rolled my eyes, a part of me still didn't believe his words

"I can prove it to you Myers but...I need you to promise me that you won't start screaming" that also sounded like a typical villain line "That sounded pretty threatening" "I am sorry, that wasn't the intention" Jake got up standing on the middle of the room then turned to look at me "I'll try to explain everything you want to know, but first I need you to understand that you are safe here, no one in this house will do anything to harm you...well maybe Harry but right now she can't" I nodded slowly "Okay...prove me you are real then"

To be honest I thought nothing was going to happen but it did

His eyes glowed yellow, just like I thought they had on the carnival, next thing that changed was his hands, first his nails start to grow and become sharper until they were turned into long claws. When I looked back at his face I noticed that his teeth were growing too, becoming shiny white fangs. Before I could even think, his backs were bending, maybe...breaking, all I knew was that he was bowing down till he got to the floor, except that he wasn't him anymore...he wasn't human anymore but a wolf

A large black wolf with deep dark eyes, I had seen that wolf before...in the woods somewhere when I was young and then again in my dream

I promised I wouldn't scream and I didn't, but consumed by panic I grabbed a lampshade from the nightstand and hit the wolf with it

-

"Outch...you bastard" Jake was human again now. He, or at lest his animal version, had growled when attacked, while I hid on the other side of his bed. But the wolf didn't try to jump above it and catch me as I feared, instead it just stared at the fallen object and then become human again

"I wasn't going to eat you" he practically shouted picking his lampshade, it was beige and seemed old, vintage even "I really like this, you know" he told me a bit upset while putting it back on place and then looked at the pieces of glass left by the lamp I had broken "I am sorry" "I am making you clean this" he warned rubbing his own nose that looked a bit red where I had hit it

"You are a werewolf" I said out loud as if that could make it more real "You are a werewolf" I repeated thinking about my dream, that couldn't be a coincidence "An actual werewolf" I thought about the time I saw him in the woods when I was young, he was younger too obviously, maybe that was it: I could dream of him because I had already met him, or at least I had met his wolf "Werewolves are real and you are one"

Jake nodded for every time I said that, his arms were crossed above his chest and he seemed annoyed with my repetition but there was nothing about him that made it seem like he would interrupt me "Wait...does this mean that everyone down there..." Jake nodded "Billie?" he nodded again "Bille was turned in Korea by accident, they came here so they could hide it from their parents and luckily found us" until that moment I had been walking around the room but then I finally sat back down on his bed "Oh my God, my best friend is a werewolf....that actually explains a lot though, strangely"

"I know, it's a lot" Jake said sitting next to me "But you will get used to it, I promise" I nodded hesitantly, was that the real message of my dream? That I had to trust him otherwise things would end badly "C-can you tell me more?" "Of course, what do you want to know?" that was indeed the one million dollar question, there was so much I wanted to know "Can I get you anything first? Water? Food maybe?" Jake offered, noticing my tension "This sounded as robotic as he first time you said it, is this your way of gaining my trust before you eat me?" he laughed again, louder this time "I already told you: I. am. not. going. to. eat. you"

"Could you tell me more about Billie then, and that..woman down stairs, she knew their name and she...oh God what the fuck did she even want?" Jake got a bit closer to me and put a hand above my shoulder "Nothing that you should worry about" I truly wanted to believe him but it seemed to be one of those moments when one was too involved to be able to get out

Jake got up standing on the middle of the room again, a part of me wondered if he was about to turn into a wolf again, maybe I would need him to do that a couple more times before it got to my head that it was real "You know about LakeVille, right?" I nodded, I finally got it, he had just gotten up so that he would have space to walk around and gesticulate on the air as he told me stories...I actually kind of appreciate the gesture, it helped me to calm down, all things considered. It was nice to just focus on his movements, all of them just so precise and gracious...he was so...bloody perfect for a werewolf. The picture I had in my mind was old, tall, bearded man, with lumberjack muscles and covered in furs...Jake was quite the opposite of all that...in fact he was far from being some cave man as I imagined werewolves to be, from stories I heard and all that, to be honest he was more...ladylike than anything else

"So, we have a pack here at Witchtale and there's also one in LakeVille, that's where Harry came from" he began to explain, I felt like a child again hearing my dad's stories...that is, before he left, of course "We kind of have problems in between the packs, a bit of a bad blood situation" "And who are the good guys on all of this?" of course that if he was going to eat me and stuff he would lie, but I don't know, Zach had been talking about adventure and getting out of the routine for so long that I just decided to go with the flow, besides Jake didn't seem like a bad person "Well, I don't really like to think of this as black and white but...I would risk saying we are the good guys"

"Anyway, a couple years back my dad kind of saved Mona and Alex from Skylar's pack" I raised my hand as an instinct, which made his stop and gesture for me to talk "Skylar would be the alpha of LakeVille's pack, that's it?" Jake smiled proudly as he nodded "See, you are getting the hang of it!" as if anything about that was normal "They cut off some sort of deal but I don't think both sides were happy about it, so when Billie showed up and it got to her ears, Skylar felt like it was on her right to claim Billie...I mean they weren't bitten by anyone of our pack or blood related so...it was just a matter of time before they made a move"

"Let me see if I understand...I am in the middle of a fight in between werewolf packs and that includes one of my best friends being claimed as...as what? a war repair? Do you have any idea of how absurd this all sounds?" he shrugged "Not as absurd as you showing up in my dream" I widen my eyes, that wasn't possible "You were in my dream too"
