Chapter 33

“Thanks,” Taylor said.

“Don’t mention it.”

“There’s something I need to tell you, Maximillian.”

My eyes beamed. “I’m listening.”

“I never wanted any of this to happen to Katherine.”

Taylor expressing subtle contrition was the closest he would get to admitting Queen Vivian coming to power was a mistake. His small verbal gesture was enough for me. It proved his head wasn’t as thick as I thought.

The bell rang.

I should’ve remembered there were shortened periods today since it was a half day.

“Thank you, man.” Taylor stuffed the envelope into his backpack as the zipper squeaked its way up. He embraced me in a quick hug, giving my back a firm pat. Then, he pulled away from me.

“You, too,” I said, smiling.

“One more thing. Could you please tell Katherine that I’m thinking of her?” Taylor asked

“Of course.” I patted him on the shoulder before leaving.
