Chapter 140 : A Special Sword (Rewrite)

"This Sword, its yours from now on," Ashina said while taking out a very familiar sword from under his desk.

Kirito was surprised looking at the sword. "That Sword" Kirito muttered.

"That's not my sword. It's Kashin's. I can't take that" Kirito said. Not like he disliked the sword. In fact, he loved it. It was the best sword he had ever used but still taking a death's man sword sounded really weird to him.

"Kashin gave this sword to you did he not? It's only natural that you have it. Not to mention, this sword has been passed down from master to student for a long time in our family. Only the most talented could wield this sword. You are the most talented person I know. And you save our clan. Kashin gave you this sword for a reason" Ashina seems apparent that Kirito accepted that sword.

"Hmm, you put it like that then it kinda makes sense but are you sure that you want to give this sword to me if this is a family treasure? I am not going to stay here for a long time you know. I will be going back to my time." Kirito said, still trying to figure out whether Kashin has an angle with this move.

"That's not a problem, You are also a Uzumaki. I know you are still stubborn about using your father's names but you are an Uzumaki and there is no denying it. Consider this as a gift from your people." Ashina said.

"My people" Kirito only highlighted this word from the entire sentence Ashina said. "So he is trying to connect me with the current Uzumaki somehow. I certainly don't blame him. Having me means having strong support for the Whirpool. Not to mention, I am still only 14. I will certainly get stronger as time goes." Kirito internally thought.

"Okay I will accept the sword but I just want to state this clearly I will be going back to my time and that's not changing." Kirito makes sure that he is clear about that.

Usually, the previous wielder explains this entire thing to the next wielder and mostly they are in the master-student relationship so you can even say it directly passed by the master but because of Kashin's death, It is my duty as the leader of Whirpool to hand this Sword to you with its entire history and state its significants to you. " Ashina looked a little nostalgic and proud of doing this.

"Great another long-ass history lesson. Exactly what I was looking for" Kirito muttered to himself and his one eyebrow was already twitching.

"Young man I know what you are thinking. Don't worry, it's not a boring history lesson which you are thinking" Ashina noticed Kirito's expression and chuckled a little.

"You see this sword has been with the Uzumaki family for a very long time. So long that we now consider this as an heirloom.

It's thousands of years old and still retains its edge very well as you already experience." Ashina said and to this, even Kirito's eyebrows rose a little.

Kirito looked at the sword in his hand. He for the first time really admired the craftsmanship of the piece of metal in his hand.

Kashin's sword is characterized by a sleek single-curved edged design. It was not very curved like some Katana's. Had a black handle which was covered with green cord wrap. The hand guard was made out of gold. It was pure gold, Kirito could say that, and the same was the case with its pommel.

The blade itself was of two colours. The edge was shining steel but the off-side or the edgeless side was black. It was creating a very good-looking contrast. But maybe the most interesting part about the sword was its obviously broken guard. Kirito could say it by just looking at the rough unpolished area of the handguard and the metal piece sticking out of the pommel.

"Yes I have to agree this looks really great" Kirito agreed. And to this, Ashina looked satisfied that Kirito liked the sword.

"But more than its looks, its origins are the real important part of the story. You see, this sword was not created in the elemental nation. It was brought here from beyond the seas." Ashina said.

Kirito's eyes widen a little. Just a day ago he would not have cared about this but after understanding that his new power is Haki. Anything related to the Sea or Ocean is of interest to him.

Ashina finally saw Kirito giving him attention. He internally was thinking about what caught this blond's eyes. Usually, Kirito would not pay attention to anything. Even at the war council meeting, he was dozing off.

"The Sea you say. Can you tell me more" Kirito asked.

"Hmm well, I don't know much. As time passed the information also started to fade away but I do know that It was given to us Uzumaki by one of our ancestors who was not from the Uzumaki clan. He came from far away from the sea and married to our clan" Ashina said.

Kirito's mind was working 100 miles a second at this point. He finally started to see a pattern here but he couldn't say anything for sure. He needed more information.

"Say Ashina, does this world have pirates" Kirito suddenly asked a completely out of the topic question to Ashina.

Ashina looked a little stunned but then he thought about it and shook his head. "No, there is none," Ashina said.

To this Kirito slum.

"Or more like they don't exist anymore. They used to exist many many years ago." Ashina said. And Kirito immediately looked up.

"Don't look at me like that. I have no information about this." Ashina said once again washing cold water on Kirito's excitement.

"Alright then end of the story. Time for me to leave." Kirito said and was about to get out. He was now more interested in finding out more about pirates and what happened to them but once again Ashina stopped him.

"What's now" Kirito asked.

"Well, I did not even tell you that sword's name," Ashina said with raised eyes.

"Do swords even need a name" Kirito complained. And Ashina just rolled his eyes at this.

"GRYPHON"

"Its name is GRYPHON," Ashina said while Kirito was moving towards the exit.

Kirito suddenly stopped.
