Chapter 28 The Chemistry

Is pass 10pm and Christy could not sleep,  she keeps turning in bed not knowing why she can’t sleep.

“What is the matter with me? Why can’t I sleep?”

She try to read but no, that is not it, she took a second bath but no, she can’t still find sleep.

Mean while Paul has been trying Christy’s phone for the pass one hour but not reachable. Because she turned off her phone when Patrick called and has not turned it on since then.

“Why is Christy fond of doing this? I bought her a phone but I can’t reach her no matter what, maybe I should go to her. But it pass 11 what do I do?”

Paul keeps worrying about Christy.

Christy sat up in bed trying to find some sleep but boom she remembered her phone.

“Ohh.. no my phone, I turned it off, what if Paul was trying to call me?”

She turned on her phone and decided to call Paul, but she thought what if he is asleep. No, let me leave him.

Paul decided to try one more time before he set out to go to Christy.

“Hello.. Christy response.

Hello Christy what is going on with you? Why do you always turn off your phone? You are making me so worried.”

“Am sorry, I turned it off because of Patrick.”

“Patrick?” Paul ask standing up from his bed.

“What did he say?”

“He said I should go out with him and that I should not let you know about it.”

“Then what did you say?”

“I said no and turned off my phone that is why you couldn’t reach me, am so sorry”

Is ok, Paul wanted to tell Christy not to pick Patrick’s call again but No, let her decide that if she loves me she won’t go with Patrick.

Paul could not content his anger against Patrick, am going to deal with him tomorrow he thought.

“So how was your day?” Paul ask Christy.

“It was fine and you?”

Mine was fill with thoughts about you, Paul said almost whispering and Christy started burning inside.

Paul is so fond of doing this, Christy hold tight unto  her pillow, she wanted to tell Paul how much she wants him but no, she is too shy to do so.

“Hello.. are you there?” Paul ask as Christy wasn’t responding.

“Yes am here, and I miss you a lot too she finally said.”

Can we see tomorrow? Paul ask.

You know we can’t see, except I have a good reason to leave the house.

“Yea, I almost forget”, Paul said.

Hmmm, I just miss you a lot, I want you by my side, I just want to look into your eyes and kiss you and I will be fine. Paul said hoping that Christy will find a way for them to meet.

Am so sorry Paul, there is nothing I can do right now but don’t worry I will find a way ok.

Ok, so when should I expect you? Paul was still making sure.

I don’t know but like me see tomorrow.

Ok, tomorrow then, love you, and please do give yourself to another guy, do you promise me that?

Yes I promise, and you too, do give yourself to another girl.

I promise it will never happen, I love you Christy and I will never hurt you.

Ok, you can go to bed now.

No, I can’t sleep because you are not here with me. Paul said.

Please, just try and have some sleep, ok let me help you she said.

How? Paul ask.

She kiss him on the phone and said I love you my sweet heart.

Paul was quiet for sometime, he felt a lot better now.

Bye, Christy said and Paul end the call.

“She call me sweet heart? That sounds so good, hmmm now I know she loves me and no one will take her away from me not even Patrick.

Bridget was the first to wake up, and she rush down to Christy room.

“Christy please wake up am hungry.”

Ohh… what again? Can’t one have rest in this house? I should have just stayed at Sharon’s place rather than coming back to this house where I can’t have peace?

“Christy open the door…”

Bridget keeps shouting

What is it Bridget? Can’t one have peace in this house?

“Mom am hungry”

So?, didn’t you eat last night? Why are you hungry this early?

“I don’t know and I feel tired too”

Are you sure you are ok? Are you sick?

“No mom, am just hungry”

“So where is this stupid Christy? Are you not hearing that she is hungry?”

“Am coming mom,” Christy got out of bed and rush to the kitchen.

She prepared some food for Christy and brought it to the dinner table.

“Are you sure you are ok?” Christy ask Bridget.

“What do you think? am fine, am just hungry.”

“Ok, just eat slowly”

Don’t worry about me am fine, she said eating like she is for the first time in her life.

Christy stands there looking at her wondering what could be wrong with her.

“Why are you looking at me like that? You can go” she ordered.

“Ok, I thought you needed something else”

“Something like what? Ok have you gotten the number?”

“No, you know I have not been able to go out since. If you help me go out, I will get the number for you”

Just forget about the number, I don’t feel like going anywhere, I think am sick.

“Ohh.. sorry, Christy held Bridget trying to feel her forehead.”

“Go away, what are you doing?”

“Am trying to feel your temperature”. Christy said.

“As what? Are you a doctor?” Bridget ask

“Am sorry, Christy said and walk away.”

“Look at her, pretender. You think I don’t know where you want to go,  you want me to help you go out so you can go to Paul huh… Mtcheeeew. If I can’t have Paul, you will not have him you’ll see.”

Ohh.. no, she ran to the bathroom to throw up.

Wait, I hope am not pregnant? No, it can’t be no, don’t panic Bridget, she console herself.

Am going for a check up before mom finds out, it can’t be. This foolish boy I asked him not to put it inside oo, now look what he has done, I need Paul and I also need James, but is Paul I want the most now this boy want and put it inside, let him pray that is not what am thinking, I will surely deal with him.

Bridget hurried to the pharmacy to run a quick check and yes, she is pregnant.

What? I thought as much, that is why I feel so tired. What do I do now? I need an abortion and I need it real quick.

But I don’t have money with me, and I believe that idiot don’t have money, so how do I get money for abortion?

Christy was washing the clothes when Bridget came back.

Christy do you still want to go out?

Yes, why?

“Well I think I can help.”

Of course I need, because you are my gate fee, without you I can’t go out, I understand.

Why are you sounding like that? Bridget ask so humble.

“Nothing, am just wondering what you want to ask this time.”

“Christy please can you give me some money?”

“From where? I don’t have any money”

“I know, but Paul can always give you”

“What? No, I can’t ask Paul for money” Christy said.

“Why? Is he not your boyfriend?”

“He is but….”

Did I hear you two right? The mother came out from no where. So you have a boyfriend and you, pointing at Bridget. You are encouraging her to be doing prostitution in my house.”

“No mom is not what you think.”

Really? So am now deaf right? I didn’t hear what you two where saying right?

I know it, I know you will spoil my daughter, you this girl, she grab Christy and start to beat her up.

“Mom please stop she didn’t do anything please”

Get out of here, she add Bridget in her beating and soon both Bridget and Christy where crying.

I will deal with both of you in this house, I wouldn’t have any of you get pregnant in my house, I will throw that person out. She said and walk out on them.

Am finish oo, Bridget’s cry change from that of beating to that of worry.

What? Christy ask seeing how Bridget was crying bitterly.

I need money to solve a problem.

What problem do you need the money for.

You see, I spent the money mom gave me for school fees, and you know school will open soon what will I do if she finds out?

Hmmm that one is a serious case, and I don’t have money, I would have given it to you.
