Chapter 80

Davinder reached out to Noah. “Let’s just take it one small step at a time here.”

“It’s not hopeless,” Fay said to me as Noah and Davinder spoke quietly in the corner.

I walked to the bed and sat by her. “I don’t know what to do. I really don’t. I’m so afraid of making another mistake.”

“Do you still love him?” She almost mouthed the words. “Do you?”

I didn’t—couldn’t—answer her.

“I think you do,” she said, pulling the blankets over her body. “You don’t have to tell me. I see it when you look at him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen two people look at each other the way you two do. Not even my mom and Dayton.”

I rose. “You need to sleep. And so do I.”

“We’re gonna go,” Davinder said, breaking away from Noah. “You’re gonna be okay, Fay?”

She was already dozing off. “Don’t come too early, please.”
