A BLESSED GIFT

"I am here... Where is she?" Dr. Malwin came in a rush. Lexine had a feeling from the way Dr. Malwin was acting that there was something he knew that she didn't and now she was curious to find out. "Is there really something wrong with my baby?" She thought.

"She is there, in the bedroom, follow me."

They entered the bedroom only to see a quiet baby lying on the bed with eyes wide open staring in their direction. She took turns in looking at the both of them. She looked so innocent as if she wasn't the one laughing and giggling some minutes ago.

Dr. Malwin turned to look at Lexine with questioning eyes. Noticing a pair of eyes on her "I swear she was laughing and giggling just a minute ago. I promise, I couldn't have been hallucinating". Lexine said in a rush partly trying to convince herself.

As crazy as it sounded, she really wanted Dr. Malwin to believe her. She was telling the truth though, but seeing the baby right now, anyone would believe otherwise.

Dr. Malwin turned to look back at the baby and she met his eyes with a strong gaze. Their eyes locked to each other, and they looked as if they were having a staring contest.

Lexine was stunned. she kept looking back and forth at them both. She couldn't believe her eyes.

"What is going on?" She kept asking in her head.

Dr. Malwin then approached the baby. He sat on the bed and proceeded to touch the baby. Lexine stood still and didn't dare to move from her spot.

For some reason, he looked hesitant. No, he looked as if asking for the baby's permission. Which was weird.

"Wait, am I seeing things". Lexine couldn't believe what she was seeing. Dr. Malwin was the same person who delivered her, he was the same person robbing and slapping the baby when she wasn't crying not only that he was the same person who held the baby in his arms and brought her to Lexine back in the ward. So why was he acting as if he was going to get a slap if he did something he shouldn't do? Is he being for real right now?

Dr. Malwin touched Tara's face caressing her cheeks. She continued to look at him but, in a few seconds, she closed her eyes allowing him to do what he was doing.

Taking that as a sign, Dr. Malwin carried Tara in his arms. Not knowing how long she had been standing watching them, Lexine approached the bed as well.

"She is fine." "Are you sure? You were really acting strange Dr. Malwin. You are strange but this was stranger." "Hahahaha... you are funny my dear." Dr. Malwin said in a fit of laughter.

"She is fine. There is something I have noticed though, but I need more information before drawing a conclusion. Just know that your daughter is unique Lexine. She is a blessing. Keep your eyes on her and inform me of anything else you find. I can only tell you what I am thinking when, I'm sure. For now, what I can say is that you have been blessed with a great gift. Take care of her and don't hesitate to ask me if you need anything. I am here for you, my dear."

Lexine became emotional, with Dr. Malwins sweet words. Her eyes began to water. "Thank you so much Dr. Malwin she said with a voice full of appreciation. I don't know what I would do without you. You have really been the father I never had. I am really grateful."

"Now, you better not start crying, don't dare infect this little one with your tears. I don't want another crybaby on my hands." Dr Malwin said with a serious tone, but his expression made Lexine laugh. "There you go again," she said with a smirk.

She cleaned the tears threatening to fall with the back of her hands.

"Has she eaten this morning?" "No, not yet. Also, how do I know if she is hungry?" Lexine asked seriously. She had absolutely no experience in taking care of a baby. This was all entirely new to her. "Don't worry you will know "Dr. Malwin said with a smile on his face. He seemed to find what she said funny, although understanding her, knowing she was currently a new mother and a young one at that.

"Is there something you need or anything thing else bothering you?" "Oh no, there's nothing else." "Alright, then I will take my leave. I am heading to the hospital. Again, don't hesitate to call me if anything comes up." "You don't have to tell me twice old man". "Hahaha watch yourself, girl". They were at it again with their funny comments.

Dr. Malwin gave the baby to Lexine. The baby opened her eyes feeling the exchange. Lexine took Tara in her arms and escorted Dr Malwin out of the house. "Goodbye and thank you." "Don't mention it."

Dr. Malwin got into his black Tesler and drove off.

On cue, Tara started crying and just as Dr. Malwin said, out of instinct Lexine knew she was hungry. "Your belly is calling huh". She started shaking her head whilst robbing her nose on Tara's. " Little Tara is hungry huh, she's hungry huh" she kept saying with a laugh, teasing the baby.

Now it was Tara's turn to get laughed at.
