I mumbled to myself as I pace back, & forth around in this small apartment. I'm both nervous & excited, as I was thinking of various scenarios, as my mind's imagination runs wildly!

I stop & take a breath to calm myself down.

No, don't get ahead of yourself, Vince. It's only conjectured right now, nothing proven. But, If these assertions I see are true...

I take a deep drag of cold air to my lungs!

*Held up the gacha capsule ball to the light, inspecting it*

-& if this thing is remotely similar to the "Isekai Monster Breeder" light novel or the manga I've read about before-

- then I just got a beyond legendary artifact item skill... even though it still looks silly as f*ck!

I re-open my blue screen again-

But Levels, personal stat values & such are not available (N/A), which is surprising, but the mc of the isekai monster breeder started off with a captured Goddess from the start!

 I guess I can't expect everything to be the same in a new universe, not everything is applicable or possible for some reason, it's not The Gamer systems after all...

This structure has emphasis more on the Gacha Ball mechanism & dealing with Monster Capture; rather than a Level Up System. So, it behaves more of an interface than a system.

Nonetheless, I'm grateful for the Divine Blessings & skills that are more or less still the same as the source material give or take some new add ons!

I can't be too greedy, after all, less than 20 minutes ago I had nothing at all!

Now all that remains is the elephant in the room, which is also the question in my heart!

And that is if the main overpowered function is the same as what I saw & read before, 

-or is it also not applicable in this world?-!

Or can I truly; with this goofy Capsule Ball, just as in the Manga/Novel Capture ...Humanoid Beings?-!

If so...then Whoa!

I was pondering what I should do in this life earlier, & this thing is likely the answer to that question!

An answer that could change Everything going forward!

Tonight I've got to test it out! I can't wait or push it off, I must know definitively!

I need to make things clear; if I'm building an army or I'm just getting hyped up to build a portable petting zoo!

But if it is restricted to just monsters, then it's still a victory for me in the end!

Why?

Because D.C. should have tons of hidden God tier intelligent beasts from ancient times, laboratory/magic made artificial beast, alien monsters, & mythical creatures like Dragons & such somewhere around this world!

If I am restricted to 'only' animals, then I wonder if the Monster Capsule Ball will work on Meta-human animal Shape-shifters; like for example Beast Boy from the hero team Titans?-!

If he can be caught during one of his animal transformations, can he change back to being in human form afterward or would he stay in the animal form he's caught in forever?

Not that I would ever try to catch him to find the answers to these mind worm questions ...yeah, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't do that... probably???

Also, many of the stories in the multiverse mentioned Superman having an animal assemblage.

In this universe, Superman should also have his own private zoo of rare & endangered species from space in that fortress of solitude of his!

As for getting in the fortress; I'm sure there is a way in the vast D.C. World to accomplish that.

So if I must go the pocket Capsule monsters route, it's not all that bad.

But who should I target for human capture testing?

As much as I want to, I can't target the jocks or his goon friends, as the police are involved already!

I can't have the bully & his murderer crew disappearing Yet or I'm a prime suspect!

 If the capsule ball capture somehow fails, there is going to be a backlash depending on who it is that I hurl this thing into their faces!

So if possible, I rather, they, the target, not know me at all!

Also, I can't just target anyone, as they will be bound for their lives to me & the capsule ball, taking away their freedom forever if I remember correctly!

So, It's a foregone conclusion its gotta be experimented on the scum of society, as nearly no one will look for them when they're gone, that is, if the Monster Capsule Ball even works on them at all!

This neighborhood is full of sh*t, & there are so many scumbags to choose from, but what I want is a little blowback with this move!

To make a difference in the neighborhood with the disappearance of the target! after pondering for a while it dawned on me!

Yes, they'll do well for testing out the capsule capture features!

With my mind made up, I go take a shower, rest & wait for after sundown till I act.

I focus on the information on my prey in my backlog of memories using the 'total recall' skill.

The target I'm looking for tonight is the mini-boss around here, under his sponsored backers gang protection for year's he flourished continuously!

He's In charge of the Loan Sharking business, which concentrates towards desperate people, & illegally runs a mini Casino, among other things, that helps to make people in the community more desperate! 

He's famous for his cruel schemes in Debt & asset collection tactics, by any means recover costs, by forced prostitution, slave labor, slave auctioning, black market organ selling & harvesting, he's really a horrendous person even by underworld standards he's sleazy.

Not because of The business of the underground but the extra things he does to get his kicks.

The underground is mostly transactional, give & take, owe & pay.

But he gets off on the power trips over others; the desperation after the targets hope is lost in their eyes!

One of my neighbor's moms was forced to sell herself in that desperation to pay back her husband's gambling debt or else they'd kill her, & sell her organs; then have her daughter as the prostitution replacement for her!

Her mom whored herself out while on forced stimulants to numb her mind! 

When she had some moments of clarity, her mom secretly stashed away increments of cash for her daughter she got using her body!

The daughter was my predecessor's good friend, & he couldn't do anything about her family's situation!

The mother later overdosed & the daughter was skipping town with the money!

She could say goodbye to me only when I happened to meet her at the train station by chance that night; after I was coming home from a inexpensive stage magic summer camp.

She was being tailed by her gambling addict drunken Father; who chased after her when he saw her sneaking away with wads of cash in a school bag!

 My predecessor played interference so she could escape!

I got beat down by the drunken grown man, as her train left the station, and Gotham city!

I watched her leave town with a bruised-up body, bloody face, tears & clenched hands.

This has been a sore spot in this mind's body memory for some time, might as well do something about it, since I can... probably?-!

I place the capsule ball in a case container like it's an ether infinity gem! I don't know if the capture condition is on contact or by contact & my willing command.

When my cat Riki, was the first capsule captured, I was absent-minded then.

But I certainly don't recall sending a command as I didn't know what this ball could do or what it even was at that time!

 That being the case I'm worried about involving unrelated people by accident! 

 So just to be safe it's enclosed in a spherical case used for my grandfather's prize unsigned baseball; he swears up & down it was a Babe Ruth playoff home run ball!

I just humored the old guy, if it was authentic, he would surely had sold it off already knowing him!

The shoebox-sized apartment, filled with magic props & memorabilia, was my grandfather's place, I live in it alone now. 

He passed away earlier this year & the predecessor inherited some savings, so food & rent fees have been fine.

My predecessor was also taking odd jobs, along with both small corporate gigs, & birthday parties as a Magician act; which made money abundant as it could be used to live comfortably.

Subsidized by a little bit of Pickpocketing a wallet or a gold watch or two with my slight of hands skills on the subway made for extra daily pocket change sometimes.

My predecessor wasn't a Saint by any means, he was also a person who lived nearest to the Gotham slums, and was willing to do anything to survive!

Pickpocketing, sleight of hand, lock picking, handcuffs breaking, safe cracking, misdirection tactics, binding escape techniques, etc...

He thought sometimes his grandfather taught him these things to make sure he could survive by any means & not to perform on stage as he did once in the past!

After resting my eyes & mind for some time, the sun sets.

The timer on my stolen digital watch sounds waking me up, it's time to move. I open my hand & the monster capture ball returned to my palm instantly from across the apartment!

 I place the monster capsule ball in the case again & hang it from my waist like a chain wallet or any other weird keychain accessories, to make it look relatively normal.

I grab a taser & some bear mace & stuff it in my back pocket.

I splashed water on my face in the bathroom, look up into the mirror, and gaze back at my new young body's reflection.

 "I can possibly do something good against someone I always despised since that day I saw the desolate expression on my friend's face when forcing her to skip town without even having a funeral for her mother, who sacrifice to get her out of here!

And since that day he destroyed her life & forced her, my best friend away from me, my predecessor has always had deep hated for him & those like him!

This feeling has always boiled & burned quietly below the surface like lava for my predecessor! I feel it too now!

These feelings of indignation are something Inherited along with his predecessor's memory, affections for his grandfather & muscle memory for things like his proficient magician trade skills!

 And it's those overwhelming feelings of regrets that are buzzing in my mind, perhaps remnants of the soul's longing.

Regrets that he had with no power to change things.

But now things are different, I can change things. While whatever transpires tonight happens, I'll at least be confirming my possible future direction depending on the results!

I lock my apartment door, enter the shabby & odd-smelling elevator, pressing the faded #1 button.

I pull up my hoodie to conceal myself more, as the dimly lit elevator doors closed...
