“It’s my pleasure.” Gabriella bobbed a slight curtsy and hurried out the door.
The rest of her entourage followed. They were probably aware that something was going on and that they had no place in it. But they accepted that… as did Lycia. I didn’t want her or the untrained women of the Pack anywhere near the fighting when all hell broke loose.
My fingers itched with the urge to call my Mate to hear her voice again. But I resisted. Lycia’s duty was to remain safe at home, protected, and provided for. She had no business weighing the bloody decisions that secured the safety of her and the Pack. This was the bedrock of Pack hierarchy. Even if she rebelled, I couldn’t afford any distractions tonight.
As if sensing my need of her, my cell phone vibrated once more. Again Lycia’s name flashed on the screen. Jaw clenched, I declined the call and pocketed the phone again. I hated to do that, but my duty to the Pack and her safety eclipsed everything else.
