Chapter 28

ALEX

While I was going to my grandmother's house, I was thinking about everything had happened since I had left the party, which for me was much better than it was at the party. The best moment of the party was when we were in the garden, alone, without anyone bothering us. At that moment it seemed we were the same as before, but I'm wrong about that, we've both changed due to different circumstances in life, she because of my insults and those of the rest and I because of losing her love.

When I got to my grandmother's house and parked the car outside, she was already waiting for me at the door and it didn't take me long to get to her. The first thing we do is give each other a hug, and then he steps back, glancing at me.

"You look handsome my boy; I can't imagine Gabriela's face when she sees you dressed like that." She said with a big smile on her face "She didn't make any special face, Grandma, it was more like me." I assured giving her a kiss on the cheek "Well, let's go inside and tell me what happened and everything."

We laughed and went inside. I told Grandma to sit on the sofa I would go get something to drink, I wouldn't be long, which was true because not a minute later I was already sitting on the opposite sofa.

"Well, tell me dear, how come you ran into Gabriela at the party?" she asked and I settled on the sofa "Well, Diego invited me to the party and he didn't tell me she was going, mostly because he doesn't remember who she was to me and she ended up at the party because Diego goes to the same college as Carlota and they are friends. According to him, Carlota doesn't stop talking about Marcos and Gabriela, so he asked her if she could take them to the party and accepted.

"Was Marcos at the party?" she asked and I nodded "Yeah, Marcos was there. Everyone thinks they're more than just friends." I replied "And what do you think?" Grandma inquired and I took a breath of air "At some point I can't help but get jealous thinking this could happen between them, rather I'm jealous of Marcos because he can be in a way I can't be with Gabriela."

"Don't do anything to him, you know there's nothing between them." she assured and I nodded, because that was now clear to me "I know and I'm not going to make the same mistake again, I'm not such an asshole." I said "How come you were alone? How did you get rid of Carlota and Marcos?"

"They argued, that's why Gabriela was angry and that's why I followed her. I couldn't let her be alone this angry. But before that happened, we were talking." I confessed, and the smile she had increased in size "Talking about what?" She inquired.

"She asked me what I was doing at the party and I answered her." I explained and she frowned "I don't think that was what happened, something else happened at that moment." she said, practically stating, "We talked about why she was mad at me in the morning and she didn't answer my question at all."

"But some reason she would give you." grandma replied, "She told me it was because of something she heard about me, that it had bothered her and that's why she got angry with me." I explained, "But you weren't to blame for what they said about you."

"I know and she already apologized." I assured her, "Then things are going well between you." she answered and I nodded "Yeah, we're improving. We can even talk on the phone now."

"Did she give you her phone number?" she asked and I denied laughing "That's the funniest thing grandma." I said and she frowned. "What?" she asked "She never deleted it." I affirmed and this time, her eyes increased their normal size "So all the messages and calls you made to her...." she started and I denied "No, they never reached her, she had me blocked everywhere, she didn't hear from me until I I got to college."

"But... tell me about the part where you left the party." she asked "Well, as I told you, I didn't hesitate to follow her as soon as I saw she was angry and well, I followed her at a safe distance because I knew she could react against me. We were talking until she got tired of me telling her what I was telling her what made her explode. What she said hurt me, but not that much. It was clear to me this was what was going to happen and I partly deserved it, I was bothering her. She wanted to be alone. The point is, she had been stopped in the middle of the sidewalk when I see she's going to cross the street and a car was coming, I was about to not be able to save her, but when I did, I hugged her like I haven't done for a long time and I felt relieved."

"She almost got run over?" she asked horrified "Yes, but she's okay, don't worry about her." I assured "Luckily you went with her, if it wasn't for you, I don't know what could have happened to that girl."

"I know and I'm glad I went with her. But from that moment we started talking and everything got better, our relationship is getting better and she even told me we were friends." I said with a big smile on my face "At least is something."

"Yes, but I'm afraid she's in love with another guy." I said, remembering what she had told me "Alex, my boy, from everything you told me you can be sure this girl is still in love with you. Not any person or any relationship can recover, much less at the rate Gabriela is doing, she recovers if there is no love involved. That girl loves you as much or more than eight years ago, you must trust yourself and your instincts. It sure tells you something about her, especially after you kissed her."

"Something tells me what you say is true, but I prefer not to trust everything she tells me. With Gabriela you never know grandma and if she wants it to be a feeling and not another, you can be sure it will be like that. She has great control over her emotions and feelings." I answered and she denied "That's not always good, especially for her." she said and I frowned, because I haven't the faintest idea why it wasn't good for her, but I decided not to pay much attention to it right now.

"I know, but it's something I can't fight, it's her way of being a grandma and I don't want to make her change her way of being." I assured "And no one says you have to do it. I think she have to find someone to whom she can confide her feelings, fears and emotions of everything you feel."

"That someone must be Marcos." I confirmed, because it was the safest "Maybe, but if what you say is true, I don't think Marcos knows everything that's happening to her, or at least she doesn't tell her." she said and I frowned, because I don't know how she knew that "How are you sure? You don't know Marcos."

"No, of course I don't know him in person, but it's as if I did, you talk a lot about him." she replied, but I didn't quite believe it "Okay, it could be that way." We had been talking for a couple of hours and I was about to get up to go to the kitchen when my phone started ringing. I wasn't going to answer and was going to the kitchen to get something to drink whoever was calling another time.

"My boy, if I were you, I would answer the phone." Grandma said from the living room "Let them call another time if it's urgent, now I'm spending time with you Grandma." I answered entering the kitchen "And would you say the same thing if you knew Gabriela was the one calling?"

She didn't need to say anything else; I turned around and answered it before she hung up and of course my grandmother is looking at me with a satisfied face. I think my reaction was expected more than anything.

"Hi Gabriela, sorry for answering a little late." I said and heard how she laughed " It's okay, but you know I have your jacket." she answered, and that's when I looked down, confirming I didn't have the jacket "I had forgotten." I answered sincerely "When do I return it to you? On Monday?" she asked and I nodded, until I remembered she couldn't see me. "If you want, yes." I answered.

At that moment my grandmother began to tell me something, but she didn't speak and I wasn't really understanding anything. "Can you wait a minute while I have to look at something?" I asked her "If you want, I'll call you later." she assured and I denied "No, it's not necessary, I won't be long." I replied "Okay, whatever you want."

I covered the microphone so she wouldn't hear what my grandmother was going to say, because I really had no idea what she wanted to tell me. "What's up grandma?" I asked confused "What does she want?" she inquired "She is talking to me to tell me she has my jacket and when she can return it to me."

"And when will it?" she asked curiously. "Monday." I replied "Alex, don't be silly." I couldn't help but frown, because at this point, I was a bit at a lost "Why am I dumb now?" I questioned "You can take the opportunity to spend the rest of the afternoon with her."

"I don't know if you want Grandma." I protested "Try, you don't lose anything by trying." she assured and I nodded "That's true too." I uncovered the microphone, put it to my ear, and watched as my grandmother smiled broadly.

"How about you give it back to me now in the afternoon?" I asked " I'm not at home, I'm still at my grandparents'." she replied and I shrugged, even though deep down I was a little sad. "Okay Monday then."

"But you can come, they won't mind if I go out with a friend." she commented and a big smile appeared on my face "Do you really want me to go there?" I asked a little surprised "Well, not come for me, but I'll send you the address of where I'll be. I don't want them to think something that isn't." she laughed. "As you wish, I'll be there as soon as possible."

"See you in a bit then." she said, probably with a smile on her face "See you in a while my queen." I replied. Before hanging up she laughed and right now I'm the happiest man in the world, I was going to go out with Gabriela, even if it was as friends, but I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon with my beloved and that was what excited me.

"By your face I can tell she accepted." My grandmother practically signed "Yes, she has accepted." I confirmed "Well, what are you waiting for to leave? You don't keep a lady waiting." She said seriously and I laughed "Right, I have to go grandma, I'm sorry." I expressed with total sincerity and my grandmother waved her hand in my direction "Don't feel anything my boy, but one of these days you will have to come and tell me how things went with her."

"I will, don't worry, if you want, I'll come tomorrow." I suggested "Then we meet tomorrow, but go now." I grabbed my things and headed out the door, but not before giving my grandma a kiss on the cheek. As soon as I got in the car, I received a message from Gabriela with the address where it seemed to be and I know where it was, what I didn't know was what she was doing on the beach, she always loved them, but it's a bit cold for her to be there.
