It had been days already, but she still had not shown up, nor offered an explanation of why she was absent.
But she wasn't in danger. He knew it in his guts. He was just worried.
She was mostly alone physically, but she was always backed up every other way. He knew she was Okay, but she was far away, he felt it and he was worried about that.
No matter how much she isolated herself, she was born into a rich Family. She always got what she wanted, she was followed around, she had literally never been allowed to go to places alone, especially when it was hundreds of miles away.
And he had had the problem with her Family. They had chosen this time to be extremely loving and caring. Hazel showed up, then Kimberly and all the time, he had to make excuses.
"She doesn't want to be disturbed... The holiday had kept her really busy. You know, a lot of people had gone for the festival so she's working alone in the company... I don't know, maybe she's sick, she doesn't want to come down, but you know how she is, she would not say... She just doesn't want to see any body."
He was sick of it all, it was telling on him. He had not slept well, sometimes he didn't even sleep at night and he had lost appetite for food or a lot other things.
It was the first time since he started working for her that she had just so unceremoniously disappeared. He was used to seeing her, being in touch with her, or both. But this, he had no inkling of an idea where she could be.
-----
The Weather had looked a lot like his mood. Dull and clouded and stormy. It was the worst rainy season he had ever experienced. But it wasn't just him.
A large banquet hall had been arranged for the continuation of the festival since the Weather had refused to change.
But parties were not always the same without a beautiful, sunny day or a glimpse of the blue sky.
"You're not going?" Dara asked as she pounced on the bed and bent to buckle her shoe.
Abigail was just sitting there, tapping away on her phone. She didn't seem interested in the least, so unlike her own self.
She moved her phone to the side to get a better view of Dara. "What's the use?" She asked and readjusted it again.
Dara straightened. "Meeting new people. Guys. That's how she met hers." She said and bent again to buckle the other one.
"Who?" Abigail asked, not getting it for a second. "Oh, you mean the Princess?"
Christine came out of the bathroom. "Stop sounding so sarcastic, Abigail."
"What? It's just some stupid story, anyway." She sounded so bitter.
"You sound so foolish, girl." Christine told her without mincing words.
Abigail looked stunned. She slowly put her phone down and sat up. She hadn't realized she had been so bitchy.
"I didn't mean to." She said, unlivened with droopy shoulders.
Dara straightened again. "Did anything happen?" She narrowed her eyes.
Abigail bit her lips for sometime, and finally she spoke up. "You know that Jack guy?"
Jack was a Man that worked in Legacy, but he was in the Finance Department. Abigail had had a huge crush on him, right from the moment she saw him going to the COO's office.
And it was the first time she saw him.
It was nothing serious, though. She liked him obviously because of his good looks. He had a bit of plump lips and a face slightly fleshy that it was almost unnoticeable, and he had a pair of specific eyes anyone would recognize anywhere it was seen.
They immediately knew what this was about. He had been quite a show off with an ugly blonde that managed to deceive people into thinking she was beautiful with her saucy, elegant manners and rich connections.
"I never thought it was that serious." Christine said, looking surprised, though she was not. Abigail was very well into love and romance.
Dara walked to where Abigail was seated and held her by the shoulders. "Don't worry about that. You're just letting him turn you into a bitch. Look, the guy is shamelessly worthless. You're even more beautiful than that banana he carries around." She consoled her.
She didn't know it would work so easily until Abigail giggled.
"You do have weird ways to describe people."
She stood up and gave a little courtesy. "The pleasure is mine."
"Are we going or not?" Christine asked, picking up her bum bag. She was ready to go.
They hurried out of the room and Briana stayed at the back to make sure she was free and safe from anything that had to do with Dara. She had been trying to be very inconspicuous lately and she was just thankful her friends did not notice. Even if they did, they had been considerate.
Briana had told them a bit of what happened with a bit of embarrassment. But they seemed to not notice and when she apologized, they waved it off and said,
"There are somethings I would never do for someone."
Though it had left her with a bit of a feeling she didn't like, she felt better that she told them.
The last thing she needed, was to fall out again with Dara.
They were passing by a group of other people and being together could help keep some perverts off. But Briana was some metres behind and she felt a hand grip hers when she was about to pass a group of good-looking and ill-mannered boys. She turned to see who it was. He looked gentle and was dressed neatly. It suited his face very well.
"You don't seem to be in a hurry, so maybe, we can get to know each other?" He suggested, but she shook her head.
Briana could tell from that instant, he was very stupid.
Just because she seemed not to be in a hurry, he was accosting her so crazily and making some proposal of getting to know each other? The first time they were setting eyes on each other?
She knew such an attitude was rampant from boys who thought they had everything, but it still took her back when someone was being so... Open... To her.
"No, I'm in a hurry. My friends are waiting for me." She said as she tried to pull her hand out of the boy's grip, but he would not even budge.
"I said, let go. I have people to catch up with." She looked ahead at the others and saw they were about to get into the Hall. She could even barely see them and shouting would make no difference. The band was very loud. She started to panic and was shocked when he pulled her and she fell on his body. Seeing him up close, she realized he was not as beautiful as he looked from afar.
"I don't see nobody waiting for you, Beautiful. Don't worry, I'll escort you later, but for now..." He looked hungrily at her lip and the guys with him cheered.
"Take it easy, Bro."
Briana felt disgusted.
She moved some metres back and tried to mask her fear.
"Are you crazy? How dare you?! Let go, Bunny." She told him bravely, but inside, she was shaking.
She noticed he looked sinister when he was enraged. "What did you call me?" He demanded fiercely.
'Oh, God.' Briana thought. 'What trouble have I gotten myself into?' She was terrified, but she wouldn't show them her fear. She knew she was being foolish, but the little pride in her didn't let her drop the foolishness.
"Are you deaf or stupid? Bunny." She repeated and she saw his gaze harden. His Friends smirked.
Brave one.
"We'll see who will be eaten up, then." He said and started dragging her away.
"Let go, you bastard!" She screamed as she struggled and felt her feet dragging on the floor. But before he could take another step, she saw a hand stretch and land on his shoulder.
"The girl comes with me, Mister." That voice. Briana followed the trail the hand created and she saw the least person she expected.
He turned furiously to know who stopped him, but when he saw it was a little trouble, he smiled mischievously.
"Stop me if you can." He tugged Briana's hand again, but before she had the chance to scream, his hand was pulled out from hers and twisted and stretched in a way that it touched his navel and he heard his bone cracking and felt his bone breaking.
He couldn't even talk and he didn't need to be told who did it. He just groaned in pain as he felt himself being turned and his legs were kicked so hard, that it moved from under him and he fell on his knees.
"What the..."
"Shut up." She ordered him and pain made him so numb and weak that he obeyed.
When he concentrated, he saw a pair of beautiful, white feet in front of him covered in a sandal that was the color of her skin.
Before he had time to think who it was, he felt his head being pulled down that it was touching the beautiful feet and it was pressed down so that he wouldn't lift his head.
He had never bowed to anyone in his life and he was doing it now? No way!
He started to struggle profusely, but her strength was unimaginable. She pressed him down and brought down her leg heavily on the arm she had twisted.
He let out a loud growl and stayed quiet, but his breathing was loud and ragged.
When Briana didn't do anything, but stand and watch, she asked her, "he was misbehaving with you and you will do nothing to him?"
Briana looked up then unsure, but when she looked down and saw that two of her bangles were broken and her skin where he had gripped her had an ugly color, she brought up her feet and stepped down on the back of his head with so much force that he hit his head on the stone on top of her sandal and it's shape became embroidered on his forehead. Then she twisted her feet so that all the dirt under it came rubbing off and stuck to his fine hair, but she didn't feel sorry.
He was numb and dizzy from the pain, but he felt a whisper near his ear.
"If there's a next time, Satan accept my soul for what I will do to you." It sounded like the Devil's whisper.
He felt his arm being released and he fell from the shock. His friends had run away when they saw how badly he was getting treated. Nobody wanted to be a victim.
As they were heading back, Briana didn't know what to say. She just followed her like a Zombie until she spoke up.
"Surprised, huh?" She sounded proud and amused.
Briana now had the courage to talk. She told her genuinely, "yes. You were the least person I expected. Thank you so much, Dara, I can't even thank you enough. I was so frightened." She admitted.
"You didn't sound like it." Dara said with a cheeky smile.
"There's no way in Pluto I'm showing them I was afraid."
Dara looked at her questioningly. "Why Pluto?"
Briana laughed and shrugged. "I don't know, it just came to my mind and I said it." The silence reigned for sometime until Briana broke it. "How did you know I was in trouble?"
Dara swept her hair to the back. "I noticed you were not following us, so I looked back and saw him pull you on him. And I know you are not having an episode with anybody here. Or am I wrong?" She added, thinking about it mischievously.
"No, of course not!"
"I was just saying." She raised her hands in surrender, then she nudged Briana. "You know what?" She asked looking pleased with herself for the information she was about to give out.
"What?"
"He's Jack's, chick's brother."
Briana brows shot up, but she wasn't even surprised. "You don't say."
