In the game, you need to destroy a certain unit in the war to make the monster unit in the enemy's hand rebel. However, that doesn't mean the monster unit will join the player's army. Rather, the monster will create a third faction that will attack anyone on the battlefield.
However, in the game, the unit controlling the monster will be on the very back of the enemy formation, and the player needs to lure quite a large amount of units before they can go and try to defeat that unit.
That is why the cavalry unit is very important in the game. They can lure the enemy out by running around the map and ensuring they cannot hit you in close combat. If the unit chasing after the player is the archer unit, the player needs to ensure their cavalry unit has enough armor to tank all the damage.
