Chapter Seven(Four Years Ago)

*Lucien*

"What have you done Lucien?" my mother says while walking into my home as if I did not warn security to make sure she does not come in. I should have known my mother is a different breed.

"I don't know mother, but I am sure you will tell me," I say lazily.

She stares at me with disgust and shock. "How dare you fire Genevive? How dare you fire her in the most embarrassing way possible?'

"She got what she deserved mum. She cannot lie, and get away with, especially when it threatened my company," I say.

"You mean my company," my mother says. "Lucien, you had no right to fire her without going through me first."

I narrow my eyes at my mother. "I have never had to go through you to fire or employ someone mother."

My mother glares at me. "I was the one who employed her Lucien, not you. I was the one who picked her to work as your assistant because I planned that with the experience, she can be the marketing manager she had always wanted to be. So, do not give me that crap about you being the CEO. I own more shares in that company. You had NO right, I repeat, NO right to fire Genevive. I brought her to be your personal assistant. The longest one you have ever had, might I add. You are the one who fell in love with her, or so I thought because if you really fell in love with her, you would know that she did nothing. You would have at least given her the benefit of doubt and done a thorough investigation. So, you better fix this."

My mother left my home and said nothing to me afterwards. I knew she was pissed and that she loved Genevive a lot, but so did I. I also could not believe what she did, but she did it, and there is nothing I can do. With time, I am sure my mother will understand although right now, she does not. I should not have trusted Genevive. I sigh and run my hands through my hair knowing that my mother will not just let this slide. I know even if it means her investigating for years, she will until Genevive's innocence is proven.

I think about how she left the office, and how I treated her. Maybe, it was not fair, but she did cost the company a of money. I do not care what my mother says. The evidence against her is crazy. I will love to see how my mother claims she is innocent.

I take a glass of whiskey while on my couch, as I think about what could have been, but did not because Genevive decided to be a traitor. I cannot believe I fell for her tricks, and fell in love with her, but she seemed to believe she was innocent. That could have been just an act. I know mum thinks she is innocent, but anyone can cry.

Most criminals don't confess to their even when they are caught. I also know that mum believes Genevive is innocent, and she believes I handled the matter harshly, but I did not. Had it been any other person, they would have been in jail. I would have made sure that they stayed there for at least a few months, or even years.

Mum has no idea just how strong my feelings were, for me to just let her go. I don't care what my mother says, I am not allowing Genevive come back to my office. Another mistake I made was ever involving myself romantically with an employee. It will be the last time I will ever do it. I have a made a mistake that I am not willing to make again.

*One Month Later*

My mother had not said a word to me for a month. I tried as much as possible to pretend like I was not affected by her silence, but I was. From what I heard from my younger sister, she and mum were still meeting for dinner, but mum did not want to face me. My sister also told me that mum was still not over how I sacked Genevive.

Apparently, my mother tried to make her come back, but she declined and said she did not what to go where she was not wanted and trusted. Knowing my mother, she understood Genevive's point of view, which only fueled her anger towards me. Mum was still sure that it was someone in the office that framed Genevive, and there was nothing I could do to stop her from her own intuition and investigation.

Even if by chance, Genevive is proven innocent, she will not come back to the office especially not after how I sacked her. I sigh and send yet another message to my mum who still was not replying to my messages. She had instructed her security guard, to ensure that I do not come to her home. I knew she was dead serious and not bluffing when she carried on our weekly family dinners without me.

I never thought a day will come when my mum would not want to talk to me. Who would have known she loved Genevive that much? I wonder how they met, and what made my mother love Genevive. I sigh and decide to work out since I am getting no work done. My mother's silent treatment had made me think about Genevive even though I managed not to.

What my mother needs is to forget about her, like I have.
