Bai Du smirked when he saw how scared the boys had become. Most of them had ran to the table, using their own handkerchiefs to wipe it. A woman walked into the room, her black high heels strutting across the floor.
"Good morning, class." The woman frowned when she saw the boys retreat to their seats, avoiding eye contact.
Wang Yong who was busy chewing the end of his pen suddenly lifted his head in good spirits. "Good morning, Mrs. Luo!"
Mrs. Luo's eyes scanned the whole classroom before it landed on Wang Yong's face. She had been their classroom teacher since they were little and she was well aware of each students' characters. And from the looks of it, it seemed that her infamous student, Wang Yong was at it again.
"Why are you are looking at me like that? I am innocent!" Wang Yong defended himself uprightly against his teacher's glares.
That only confirmed her suspicions. Everyone in the class knew that his quest to prove his innocence was only a disguise to cover up his pranks. But since she came so late, she didn't have enough time to pursue this matter. "Never mind. Class, we begin the session with this set of questions...."
After the class had ended, Qiu Zexi approached the teacher to ask her a couple of questions. Wang and his friends stayed behind, whispering to each other in low tones. Fu Pei's eyes that never left the teacher noticed that she was staring at Wang Yong intensely.
When she had finally finished talking to the class president, she approached the three boys talking in low tones. "Hello, what are you doing?"
Wang Yong and Bai Du quickly concealed the paper on the table before lifting their heads. "Hello, Mrs Luo. Is there anything you need?"
"I heard that your grandmother is ill last week. How is she now?" She was informed about her condition when she had asked Qiu Zexi about Wang Yong's absence in class.
"She is still very sick, Mrs Luo." Wang Yong dropped his head to concentrate on the homework he was working on, ignoring her.
Mrs Luo's eyes dimmed when she noticed what he was doing. She could see that he was very sad about his grandmother but just didn't know how to express it. "Is there anything I could do to help?"
Fu Pei laughed when he heard her, his eyes turning cold as he smiled sweetly. "How about you ask your husband to lend us some money?"
Wang Yong and Bai Du snickered.
Mrs Luo's face turned red due to embarrassment and shame. Everybody in the school knew about her alcoholic husband who was always causing a scene in the school once in a while. Even though she was well respected and loved in the school, she could often feel the looks of pity and scorn from people in the school.
She was deeply hurt by his comment but still kept a calm and kind expression as she carried her purse. "I just wanted to help. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to ask me. Please excuse me."
Bai Du hit his friend's arm when they saw her leave so despondently with her head bent low. "Why did you do that?! Mrs Luo was just trying to be nice!"
"I just wanted to teach her to mind her own business." Fu Pei closed his books and stood up with a straight face. "If you don't mind, I have to go now. Text me when its time."
Wang Yong watched him walk away with amused eyes, shaking his head. "Where is he going?"
Bai Du looked through the window watching Fu Pei follow the teacher in a distance. He looked at Wang Yong to confirm his suspicions and started chuckling. "Ah, that two faced brat!"
Fu Pei readjusted the straps on his school bag before he continued walking, watching the woman cross the street to buy some buns. He stood opposite her but continued to observe her. Soon she sthand d in front of her house, looking around her before she stepped in.
He turned around and left immediately the door closed, unaware of the two students who stood far away watching him. Wang Yong grabbed his friend's hand and said. "Let's separate now. I have to go to the hospital to check on my grandma."
Bai Du nodded, crunching low when he saw Fu Pei who stopped suddenly to look around him. "Okay, later."
Wang Yong arrived in the hospital whistling when he saw Mingli standing outside the door with his hands in his pockets. "Took you long enough."
"Did something happen?" Wang Yong opened the door to check on his grandmother. He sighed when he saw her sleeping peacefully.
"We had a visitor. It was your god brother, Kong Zhu." Mingli sat down beside his grandma, being careful not to touch her.
Wang Yong threw away his school uniform shirt on the couch, revealing his black shirt he wore underneath before he drank a glass of water. "Why was he here? Did he see her?"
"Nope. I didn't allow him to enter. Be careful of him." Mingli turned to face his elder brother. "We don't have time. Grandma is slipping away, what's your plan?"
"How long does she have?" Wang Yong sat down with a grim expression.
"At this rate, eight days." Mingli restrained his brother from scratching his neck. "I told you, you should have accepted Bohai's help."
"Yeah, right." He rolled his eyes and grunted when he found out that the pack of cigarettes he was looking for was in his little brother's hand. "I already have a plan."
"Really? You think that would work? You could end up in prison!" Mingli wanted to smack his senior brother silly at his immaturity. "What would happen to Grandma then?"
"Don't worry." Wang Yong finally grabbed his bottle of medicine when he couldn't control the buzzing in his head and the itching in his skin. "I have no intention of letting my grandmother die."
