Prologue

In the dead of night a black silhouette can be observed overlooking a village from atop a

cliff. A tranquil smile on his face as though free from worldly worries.

"So it begins, huh?" He seemingly murmured to itself.

As if on queue, the village becomes overtaken by darkness and in but a few moments a

heavy aura of death and soberness takes over the once vibrant scenery. In but a few

minutes inhumanly screams can be heard coming from the once peaceful village.

The man's smile remains on his face as though transfixed and ethereal, yet it soon starts

turning more and more sinister and gleeful and his eyes transfixed as though looking at

the most beautiful piece of art. In but a moment though it all disappears and is instead

replaced with an emotionless look on his face.

"Rats? They always ruin my fun." He spoke out, yet his voice gave away his feelings of

happiness rather than annoyance.

"How far will you reach I wonder?" He continued his voice now more neutral than before

yet now majorly containing a sinister tone rather than one of happiness.

POV switch:

I ran carrying my younger sister on my back. I dared not look back and just ran. I prayed

for my parent's safety yet I knew the chances of them living were close to nil.

"Al, where are we going? And where's mommy and daddy?" My little sister innocently

questioned. Not knowing what to say I remained silent. A crisp silence soon overtook as I

continued running down the path I had travelled countless times to the next village.

My little sister getting very uncomfortable started rocking back and forth on me. Afraid

she'd fall I relented giving a lie.

"Dad and mum have gone to a better place." I spoke up after what had felt like an eternity

to me. Yet even so I could hear my voice cracking. My sister most probably sensing my

sadness nuzzled her head in my hair and innocently started muttering cutely. A small

action that somewhat elevated my sadness.

I ran with renewed might, not caring for the injuries affected on my body. I had to get my

little sister to safety no matter what.

As though god answering my prayer I saw a small light open in the vastness of darkness

that had taken over the village earlier. Yet on closer looks it seemed like the devils prank

as the opening was closing as was too far for me to reach. I remember dad ordered me to

never use magic as my body was still too weak to handle it, yet at this moment hearing

the small whispers of my sister and remembering the gruesome faith that awaited us in

case one those monsters catch up, I made up my mind quickly using the magic to boost

my leg power I barely managed to squeeze my sister and myself through it.

In a flash of bright light it was seemingly morning and as I looked back to see the

darkness I escaped from I saw no darkness but a terrifying creature fully dark and its eyes

bigger than me yet both fixated on me. It continued staring at me as though transfixed

and unable to take its eyes off. Yet that changed as I heard footsteps approaching and the

creatures eyes which were rooted on me revealed a deep look for fear and apprehension.

*Clap* *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* *Clap* *Clap*

As I turned I saw a man clad in all black slowly make his way towards me. He radiated a

sinister vibe which coupled with his horns and hanging mask made it all the more

chilling. His smile grew wide seemingly on the look of caution and apprehension I gave

him. And wherever he walked the land turned dark as though he were walking on a

different plane than everyone else.

"I must say I'm impressed." He spoke out outwardly sounding genuine.

"What?" I questioned as I positioned my sister ever so closer to myself looking at the

unknown man who seemed to look all too much at home with the mess surrounding us.

"Very thoughtful." He spoke out, conveniently ignoring my question.

"No non-magician has ever escaped my cage. I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. So,

I've decided to give you a gift." He spoke out looking at me as would one to a new toy.

"Wha–" Before I could speak out I was assaulted by multiple black shadow lines as they

assimilated into my body. Feeling an immense pain I faint yet not before witnessing the

stranger walk towards me and inject the same power into my sister. Unable to do anthing

and the pain becoming too strong I pass out. The last words I hear are:

"I have what you'll be looking for when you wake up."
