Morning in the city, nothing is more exciting than this. Being alive and breathing the morning fresh air is truly a relieving feeling at this time. Not only because it's rare, but it's also a quick event to miss. When you have the time, it just passed away with the smell of gunpowder, the sound of gunfire and explosives, and a slight smog around the city. I survived again, and maybe not for long...
I've been in this city for a long time. I was born here, grew up here, and learned a lot from here. This city is not too big and not too crowded, has a lot of open parks, skyscrapers, and blocks of apartments. For some people, this is a real dream, but right now, it's a terrible nightmare for anyone who dares to cross the streets alive. Lots of snipers and rooftop ambushers hanging in the high buildings with their high skill of hiding and surveying the streets, just to kill a poor bastard for their little to none loots. Yes, it is hard to live here right now if you don't have the courage. But for someone who has the purpose to stay in here or trapped in, there's no choice but just survive and go through the day.
I'm here on the rooftop of a restaurant, awake, and admiring the view. I'm glad I'm still alive. There's nothing unusual for this day if you count the gunfights and explosions. Just a regular day...
As usual, I eat, drink, counting my supplies, load up my gun, and exercise a bit. Gotta be fit for avoiding those snipers and dodge the bullets. After that, I go down to the ground floor, walk around the street full of rubble and destroyed vehicles, and look for more supplies. You might expect this is easy for me, but it's not. I need to be fully vigilant of my surroundings, sometimes my fear is rising like a thermometer, do a quick snatch-and-grab technique, double-check it, and move on.
It's really hard, but it also kinda fun for me. There's one moment when I near the mil base (military base), I saw a shirtless guy shouts "Hail Mary!" as he throws a rock at one soldier. The guy ran away, but the soldier just chuckle. Probably it's just an inside joke for the soldier, but the rest is unknown. This time...Eh, not so exciting.
I'm wearing my favorite outfit; gray jacket, almost faded blue jeans, my trusty black gloves, a balaclava on my neck, and a pair of sneakers. With my backpack full of supply and an AK-47 in my hand, it's kinda difficult to walk and run. My AK is just a regular gun, picked from a dead insurgent, comes up with 5 magazines (also from dead insurgents), nothing unique and interesting from it. I learned how to shoot a gun since age 12 and now I've got several kills from this AK.
Those soldiers are fighting really hard, so do the insurgents. Currently, I think they're in the draw. The soldiers winning here, the insurgents winning there, or they just tied and still fighting for days. Are they really fighting or just throwing bullets at each other? Or maybe they have some kind of backdoor business between them? Probably...
Now I'm at one of the remaining parks in this city, and what can you expect? It's barren, stinks, and burnt down into ashes. I walk through the thin smoke, evading the remaining dead bodies, and sit in my favorite place. One big, green, and the only remaining oak tree in the park. I usually sit here, daydreaming, gazing around, and sometimes sleeps until dusk. Most of the time my sleep is interrupted by the local gunfight or someone wants to steal my stuff. Luckily, no one brave enough to pull the trigger at me...Yet.

"Hey, wake up!"
"Huh...What?!"
"You're not supposed to be here. Get out of here, quick!"
"Wait wait wait, what happened exactly? This is my usual spot, you know?"
At this time, I look at his face and his uniform. A US Army soldier, in the middle of the park, instructing me to get out of the park...
"Listen, I don't know you and you are just a civilian to me. So, listen to my order. Please, get out of here!"
"At least tell me what happened here!"
"This place will be a temporary military base because of the recent attack, we moved here to halt the series of ambush and eliminate all of the snipers. If you want to help, go to my commander right there." He said as he points to the fountain. I see a person with a cap standing there.
"No, no. I'll go away. Thanks for the information, sir."
"You're welcome. Stay safe out there!"
I nod and run to the streets. Now the army has made a move, that's interesting. More gunshots can be heard far away while I walk and think deeply.

It's already noon, and I found yet another abandoned fast-food kiosk. It was looted as usual, but some sauce packets are still here. Back in my deep thought (again...), I still wonder why these attacks are not stopping? Why the Army is the only one who made a move, while neither the Air Force nor the Marines are not here? And yet, are both sides never run out of supplies? I suppose the insurgents will run out of supplies, but it's been 3 years now.
This war has been going on since 3 years ago. At first, it was just some young people who expressed their thoughts on the government. It was fine and dandy at first, but an explosion happened right between the crowd. Then, numerous armed groups ran into the crowd and started shooting them. On the other hand, the governor has been assassinated. The reason? I don't know, but the bloodbath is surely a traumatizing one. After some time, the city has been occupied by the insurgents for a year. And you can guess it, the military decides to take over this city a year ago. Now, the fight still continues...
Maybe that's too deep to dive into. Oh well, might be a good idea to settle down and eat canned food. Soon as I opened the can, a technical car passes by and firing in an unknown direction. I jumped by the shots (it's a .50 caliber machine gun) but still continue to eat my food. I'm used to this now. As the technical car fades away into other parts of the city, I finish my food and sit for a while.
I hope nothing passes by me, especially death...
