Chapter 56: Progress 3
Returning to my room, I learned from Julius's reaction that the value of the "Mystic Medicine of the Forest" was higher in this world than in the game. I felt relieved that I hadn't shown it to the princess yet.
"I never thought its value had changed so much to the point of surprising him... In the settings, it was only described as 'not widely available', so I thought it was just a bit unusual..."
It was fortunate that Julius was the one I showed it to.
If I had shown it to someone working in a different castle than Julius, I would have probably received strange attention.
But Julius understands that I dislike being the center of attention, so he would likely keep this to himself.
Well, I still think he'll inform the princess, but it should remain relatively minor.
"...There seem to be many items with different values between the game and this world."
If I have the chance to investigate, I should do so to avoid future mishaps.
With those thoughts, I had a moment of self-reflection and headed to the dining hall for lunch.
"Jin-sama, do you have plans for later?"
"Huh? Not particularly."
After finishing the meal and getting up to go for training, Zeph appeared.
"In that case, could we have a brief discussion? I have something to tell you about the Rajinia family."
I agreed and followed Zeph to what seemed like a meeting room.
I had imagined something like a guild consultation room, but the room we entered was more than twice as large.
"Jin-sama, we have been gathering information about the Rajinia family since the other day. We would like to provide you with an update and requested some time for it."
"Is it alright for you to share this progress with me? I'm just an ordinary commoner now, you know?"
"As a victim, Jin-sama has the right to know."
Zeph explained the progress they had made so far. Most of it was familiar from my previous life, but there were some things I didn't know.
I wonder if it's related to something that couldn't be concealed even three years ago?
"That's what we've learned so far. Since there still might be some hidden aspects, we plan to continue our investigation. Also, we've had someone cooperate in finding the source of the poison. We will continue investigating that as well."
Someone, huh... Even in this world, that character seems to dislike the Rajinia family.
I said, "I see, understood. If there's anything I can assist with, please let me know. I'll help if it's within my capabilities."
"Yes, thank you for your willingness to help."
Zeph handed me a copy of the documents and left. I wanted to read them more carefully, so I returned to my room.
Back in my room, I decided to compare the issues surrounding the Rajinia family in the game with the information in the documents.
"While the game's setting documents were detailed, this report is also quite thorough... This suggests that that character has been leaking information to the royal investigators."
This raises one question, though.
That character started sharing information about the Rajinia family after Jin turned into a villain and felt responsible for them in the previous world.
However, in this current world, I haven't turned into a villain.
So why did that character take action?
"In the story, that character left many mysteries and ultimately disappeared... I have no idea what they were thinking."
Even in the set of game setting documents released a year after the game's launch, there wasn't much information about that character.
"I don't know their motives, but it's wise to avoid getting too involved..."
Deciding to rein in my curiosity, I resolved to continue my current lifestyle unless Zeph or the royal family asked for my assistance.
Escort missions alone provide better pay than regular requests, and they ensure my basic needs are met.
"There aren't many jobs as lucrative as this one..."
I had hesitated to take on the job initially, but now I see that it was the right choice.
With such thoughts in mind, I finished reviewing the documents and decided to spend the time before dinner training, leaving my room for the training grounds.
