Chapter 47: Princess's Abilities, Part 2
It seemed like the princess was going to be one of the last to take the test, so at first, she watched the other students' magic.
I just saw them earlier, so I already know their levels, and I'm not particularly interested in anyone other than the princess...
"Jun, you look so disinterested."
"Oh, I just mean I'm not particularly interested in anyone other than the princess."
Honestly, that was the truth. I do want to know the princess's current abilities, but I don't care enough about the other students' abilities to confirm them. In reality, I already have a pretty good idea of the students' levels from the game.
While some details about the classes and individual magic levels were abbreviated, there were some scenes in the school arc where students fought against each other, and that gave me a general sense of their abilities.
"I'm only interested in knowing the strength of the princess, who I am supposed to protect."
"Hehe, in that case, you can look forward to it."
The princess smiled and said so.
With nothing eventful happening, the tests proceeded, and finally, it was time for the test of my real interest, the princess's test.
"Everyone, please step back if you don't want to get hurt."
As the princess stepped forward for the test, one of the teachers said so, and the students took a few steps back from where they were watching.
Why is everyone stepping back? Well, I guess I'll step back too, just in case...
"Jun, is it your first time seeing the princess's magic?"
As I moved away from the original spot, Miliana, who was in the same class as the princess, approached me and asked.
"Yes, it is. But... judging from this feeling, is the princess quite a skilled mage? I heard about the incident caused by her from Tiana-san yesterday."
"Fii-chan's magical abilities are indeed exceptional. Before she entered the academy, she was known as a prodigy, even more talented in magic than Tiana-chan, who was also called a child genius. It was expected that she would make remarkable progress once she entered the Magic Department."
Based on yesterday's conversation, the princess seemed to have a reputation as a problem child, but could it be that she also possesses extraordinary magical abilities? In the game, I only had an image of her using healing and holy-type magic.
Oh, but I remember her official character description mentioning that she had considerable magical power.
While recalling such information, I directed my gaze towards the princess, who was gathering magical energy to cast her spell.
"Going For It"
The princess, ready with her magic, summoned a gigantic fire bird and released it towards a target set up for testing.
That magic was of an intermediate or higher class.
To think she had been capable of using it since the beginning of this tale three years ago... The princess is seriously incredible.
Amazed by the princess's magic, both I and the other students watched as she returned to us, wearing a smug expression.
"Well, how was it? What do you think of my abilities?"
"It was amazing. We had heard that you possessed enough power to destroy buildings in the castle, but we never imagined you could use magic of that level."
"Neither did I. Princess, if you can use such magic, do you really need any guards?"
As Kuro and I asked her that, the princess proudly and happily replied.
"I occasionally do some training. Living inside the castle all the time, I do it when I want a change of pace."
"Do you have someone who teaches you?"
"No, I don't. My father and the others wanted me to have a tutor, but I refused since I didn't plan on using magic anyway. They let me do as I pleased. Using powerful magic is a good way to release stress, so I prefer not to be disturbed."
...So she can use that magic without any problem. It's not just at an average level.
In my mind, I complained about the setting material I had seen in my past life, which I had memorized.
"It's truly impressive that you can use that magic, Princess."
"It seems she had a natural talent for magic. By continuously practicing on her own, she ended up being able to use magic of that level without even realizing it. When she was a child, she had a lot of free time and nothing much to do, so all she did was use magic."
"And you excelled in etiquette from the beginning too."
"Yes, besides etiquette, I quickly mastered other subjects and hobbies since I had so much free time. Even though my father suggested I go out and do something, they never let me out, so in the end, I trained with magic all by myself."
Nowadays, the princess said she does it for stress relief. Just as she arrived at the royal castle, she got off the carriage, and her work for the day was done.
After seeing the princess off inside the castle, Chloe and I headed to the training ground as we did yesterday.
Arriving at the training ground, Chloe and I separated near the entrance. I moved to the same spot as yesterday, intending to practice swordsmanship.
"Oh, Jin! You came again today."
My training spot was close to where the soldiers were practicing, and Andoru-san, who was training many soldiers just like yesterday, called out to me.
Andoru-san is known as the Guardian Deity, but he also possesses high combat skills in swordsmanship and martial arts. It's impossible to defeat him with just a dozen or so ordinary soldiers.
At the beginning of the game, he was even stronger than he is now, and I found it strange that he was afraid of the Demon Lord despite having Julius and Andoru-san around.
"You're at it again today. Are the soldiers still alive?" he asked.
In response, I heard voices saying, "We're somehow managing."
"How about joining in, Jin?"
"Nah, today, I'm thinking of reevaluating my swordsmanship a bit. Sorry, even though you invited me."
"If you have your own task, I won't force you to join. Once you overcome your task, feel free to join anytime."
Andoru-san said that and urged the fallen soldiers, "Come on, stop lying around!" and resumed the training.
I moved a little away from Andoru-san and the others and began my own training.
