Nightmare

"Nah man, I'm minding my business so maybe you should do the same. I just witnessed something sick and sadistic so disgusting you should feel lucky you missed it so I'm not in the mood for chit chatting."

His grin widened even more; he rolled his eyes and continued.

"Easy there son, what you've seen is scary but nothing this old man hasn't seen, I could show you things to paint all your dreams haunted I can even make you scream if I wanted, or I could be your best friend forever, you'd never have to work or steal or even beg if you're interested then let's make a deal."

Now I was getting weirded out, was he playing the devil or something? He must be insane or on drugs I should just ignore him.

"…" I didn't say a thing just kept on marching.

He didn't seem to understand and continued.

"All you want in life for a solid small price of your soul, imagine all the money you could hold and the power you'd fold, I'd even put you in control."

I started shaking. Was he the devil? Sweat dripped off my face and I stared into him.

Everything started to shake.

"Rhett! Please wake up. You're having a nightmare!" I heard Arthemia's voice.

I opened my eyes and saw her on top of me shaking my body. I felt something drip on my chest. Was she crying? Why? As if she'd care. She has that Mark guy to run off to. I got up and hugged her.

"You finally woke up! I tried waking you up for a solid five minutes. You were moving a lot in the bed and you got really pale, so it scared me."

"It's ok. Next time, just pour some water on me and I will for sure wake up." I chuckled letting her go.

"Next time?!"

She clearly wasn't having it so I just laid her down tucked in and laid down myself.

"Let's hope there won't be a next time."

I woke up a couple hours later, couldn't really sleep after that monstrosity of a dream though when I woke up I felt something heavy on me. Blankets aren't usually this heavy.

I opened my eyes and saw Arthemia hugging me, she was still asleep so I just pushed her away and went into the kitchen to find something for us to eat.

Margaret has prepared for us coffee and omelets. I don't usually eat breakfast but she insisted because that would be a way for me to encourage her to eat. I took the tray and got back to Arthemia's room. Coincidentally she was already awake and dressed. She ran to me and grabbed her plate of omelet and ate it in less than a couple of minutes, demanding more, I just gave her my share and grabbed my coffee and got back to work.

"Where's my coffee." She demanded standing behind me with her arms crossed.

"Drink water." I reminded her. "Coffee isn't going to keep you hydrated."

She just sighed and fell on her bed.

"Where's Peur."

"Working."

"Where?"

"In a place he works."

"And where's that place."

She was acting like a child. Pissing me off to get a response.

"I'm bored and I want to talk to Peur."

"Why don't you talk to the Mark guy?" I looked back at her, and as soon as she caught my gaze she looked down and pouting her lips stood up.

"None of your business."

"Already broke up?" I laughed and for some reason seeing her reaction seemed fatal to me, did they really break up, I didn't understand my mind.

"We were never dating. I have no idea what you are talking about so you should stop." Weirdly enough that response made me feel more relaxed and at ease.

ARTHEMIA'S POV

The following days went by quickly Rhett kept having nightmares and I'd be waking him up every night, I was too scared to let him wake up by himself. Today is Wednesday, the day of the Gala. We woke up and ate like usual. Rhett became fonder of me and now we talk a bit during breakfast. I haven't checked any of Mark's messages ever since Rhett told me he knows about Mark. I feel like I have to keep my distance from Mark until the 6 months are over.

"Today, no matter what, don't leave my side alright? We can't risk…" I cut him off, he told me this a thousand time already.

"Yeah I get it because I can't slip up or talk with others because that will cause suspicion about our relationship."

"Indeed, good girl."

He started calling me "good girl" every time I do something well and it really reminds me of kinky things and I don't take it as a compliment completely even though I like when he calls me that.

I wore a sleek deep purple dress while Rhett wore his suit. He truly is a man who can pull off a suit and sweatpants. I smiled and Peur drove us to the Gala. There were a million reporters flashing us with their cameras as we got out of the car. They were asking a billion questions but Rhett just kept on walking ignoring every one of them. When we got inside he got bent over to remind me to keep near him but I was quicker this time.

"I won't leave your side for even a second." I smiled and bopped his nose with mine.

He gave me a stern look and I noticed that the Mayor came to greet us. My cheeks reddened and I shyly greeted him. We talked for a bit, the mayor asked how we met so I just told him about our dance and what an ass he was. The mayor took it as a joke and laughed it off. Once we finished with him. Rhett pulled me aside.

"Well aren't you funny missy. How about we change our meeting circumstances a bit?"

"You want me to lie?" I gasped. Rhett just shrugged it off.

"Fuck it, you can have it your way then."

Hearing him cuss outside of home was unexpected, but he was always unpredictable like that so I wasn't impressed.

We went from person to person talking about how we met and Rhett talking about his business. After a while I even forgot about Mark, I've seen him around a couple of times but I couldn't go away from Rhett for even a minute. So there's no way we could talk. When we approached his family struck up a conversation with me himself.

"Glad I can see you again, feels like it's been ages, I really feel like you're the only real friend I have even though we talked once, but everyone has seemed to be faker than the mayor's marriage." We both laughed. Mayor has been cheating on his wife for over 3 years now, everyone knows about it with proof but they still seem to fake their relationship. While Rhett was busy Mark talked about people that had betrayed him recently. It really hurt we both wanted to cry but couldn't, there were too many people here.

"I promise I will not betray you, it will be alright." He didn't seem to listen just holding back his tears. "Mark, listen to me." I grabbed his hand. "You're not alone in this you can call whenever you feel lonely and just talk to me. About anything you want, doesn't have to be the problems, but even just the smallest of things for example you ate the best pancakes of your life, like how dare you not call me on that amazing occasion. Got it?" Mark smiled and nodded.

"And of course give me the recipe for the pancakes; you'd violate the law if you wouldn't give it to me, alright?" He seemed relaxed now, chuckling.

We must have been talking for a while now because I noticed Mark's parents have already left. That means…. Rhett has heard everything!

"Yes, great point we'd love to try the world's best pancakes. If you happen to stumble upon some, do not forget to give us a call." Rhett repeated and winked at Mark. He just laughed and we were on our way greeting and talking to others.

Lastly we approached my parents. All of the questions and answers were the same but in the end Rhett surprised me with:

"Would you mind giving Arthemia a ride home, I will sadly be leaving for business and won't be able to drive her?" they nodded.

After that Rhett pulled me aside again.

"Listen here, I will be leaving right now to France for some things and I'll be back on Friday night so make sure to keep your room clean." I nodded.

Rhett turned around then back at me and kissed my forehead. Millions of cameras flashed at us.

"Goodbye, babe." He said leaving the building.
