I Am Your Clock!

This novel is in the Webnovel Spirity Awards 2023 competition for ML: New Tropes: Unique Systems and Kingdom Building. Updated every day ——— I was like you once, but now I am in some place. What is this place? Why is it all black, but I can still see myself? Where am I? Who am I? Am I still the person who I think I am? Am I Matthias the Human? Or… am I something else?

Prologue 2: All the other kids…

"I… think I should have waited until later to leave." I think aloud, eating my bacon as I wait for the bus. "I got here way too early."

I sigh. 'Technically, I could drive, but thats a waste of gas! I can wait a few minutes to take the bus. Time may be money, but time doesn't equal my precious hard work!'

'And gas is expensive!

9$ a gallon!

What a waste of money!'

As I'm complaining in my head, the bus arrives, but I don't notice.

'What the fuck, America? You liberate all of these places to get oil, but gasoline spiked this high?'

*HONK!*

I jump, startled from the sudden noise. I immediately get on the bus full of laughing kids, saying "Sorry, sorry."

I look for a seat, hoping for one away from people, cause fuck that.

Thankfully, I got a nice seat second from the back.

"Hey, fucktard, you sure looked dumb when getting on the bus! Hahaha!" Said some black haired kid who was obviously younger than me. He wasn't there before, did he honestly choose to come back here to bother me?

'Let's fuck with him!' I joke in my head.

I smile. "How do you know I didn't do it on purpose to make all of you laugh? Aren't you just being the asshole to the kid who helped everyone here be a little happier?"

Everyone immediately looked at the kid at this declaration.

'Now that I've got that kid off my back, the rest of this ride should be pretty uneventful.' I think as I see the kid who tried to bully me shrink in the faces of literally everyone on the bus. I look around and find a friend of mine, Gavin.

He looks… Pissed. Lets not bother him for now…

I pull out my phone, wondering if theres any more notifications. The author usually posts new chapters pretty frequently even though there isn't a 'set' schedule.

'Nope. Man, I was hoping, that last chapter definately got me interested again.' I can't help but think about what he will post next.

Approximately ten buses started circling the 2 story school as if it was a hostile takeover, but when people started to leave, it was just students. I mean, what did you expect? Hells angels?

They're fucking school buses!

Dumbass readers

I enter the front doors, with hundreds, maybe thousands of people behind me. We all see the same thing, a hallway to the left, leading to the cafeteria and a hallway straight ahead leading to most of the classes. Most of the people head for the cafeteria as the school offers breakfast, but I'd rather not wash the bacon taste out of my mouth with school food. I'd rather head to my first period, Pre-calculus.

Yeah. I have Pre-cal.

And yes, its a fucking pain in the ass to do first thing in the morning.

I was early, even the teacher wasn't here yet. I probably have about 10 minutes before class starts. Still nice to not have to move when the bell rings, though

'Am I really living my life like this?' I start thinking about my future while waiting, realizing how horrid it sounds.

'This can't be all life has to offer right? Just living? Working to achieve not having to work anymore? That can't be it right? Why work at all?'

'Why?'

'Why?'

'Why? Why? Why?' I begin to deteriorate slightly, seeing black tendrils at the corners of my eyes.

*BRRRRING!*

The bell rings suddenly, starting class.

"Hahaha!" I laugh it off suddenly, as if nothing happened.

"Having a good day, I am assuming?" The teacher walked in with a box in his hands. He was a lovely old man whose name we don't actually know, but we call him Mr. H.

"I'm doing great! How about you?" I reply enthusiastically. Mr. H was a lot of students favorites because he allows a lot of freedom and is a very fair teacher. In addition to that, he seemed to see me as his favorite, so I obviously always have a fun time when he is teaching.

"Oh, I am doing just fine, thank you." He replied with a smile.

"What is in the box, Mr. H?"

"Well, everyone did amazing on the last test I gave out, so I brought donuts!"

See why students like him?

Students start pouring in the class as the clock ticks down to the class starting.

"What are we doing today, Mr. H?" Asks one of the students walking through the door.

He smiles. "That's a surprise!"

All the students looked up at that. Mr. H always had good surprises!

*BRRRRING!*

"Well, everyone, how was your days, yesterday?" Mr. H begins the class

"Good," The class called out, a little unenthusiastic due to how early it was.

"My, My, a little low on energy, eh? Well, I'm certain this will help!"

He pulls out the donuts and everyone cheers. As he is telling the students about what a good job they did, I can't help but wonder where Gavin is, he has precal first period as well, and I saw him on the bus…

Gavin doesn't enter the classroom until Mr. H started handing out napkins with donuts in them. He… was holding his bag strange. He was holding it by the loop at the top, holding the bag in front of himself.

"Gavin! You're late! Are you alright?" Mr. H's first priority is our wellbeing over schoolwork.

"I…" Gavin paused. "I am sorry, Mr. H. I had something I had to take care of in another class."

"It's alright, as long as you're fine."

"Mr. H, I have a question."

"Yes?" He smiled.

"Do you think… Some people deserve to die?"

"Wh… What?" He says concerned.

Gavin simply opens his backpack.

Out came a FN-57.

*BANG*!

Mr. H clutched his now bloodied chest.

He collapses to the floor.
