CHAPTER NINETEEN
"Hello, priestess." Said the duke, now sitting in front of me. Yep. And Zal was sitting right next to him. The male lead. I stared at him, drinking in the eye bags, with brown hair, and sharp yellow eyes. Someone I had created to perfectly match Cordelia. If Lisa was here right now and saw us side by side, I think she'd die happy. And, even worse, Zal was also staring at me. Right back. Even when I looked at me, he continued staring at me. HA. I give up. I don't know what to think anymore. "How old are you?" The duke asked, and I opened my mouth to respond with the word "Eight." A few more like that - and I answered with "Yes, I can read." "Nope, my divine power is the strongest in the world. I, Uhm, can't control it very well though." While my mouth answered these everyday questions, my fingers were busy fidgeting. I was waiting for it. the question. My fate was already decided - since the ducal estate would only lose and hurt themselves if they didnt take me in, no matter what the price - but Levi's was yet to be decided.
"And who's that next to you?" the duke asked, and I gulped. Here we go. Time to put on drama mode. Even though I was a terrible actress. I dramatically grabbed Levi's arm. "He's the son of a knight of a fallen kingdom - and saved my life!" I said dramatically, and the duke blinked at me, and Levi pushed me off his arm. Just go along with it for now, dude! "Ah… Alright… then… but, don't knights always generate a lot of money?" The duke asked, and I smiled. "Yeah, but do you wanna hear the drama that happened?"1
"...Yes. What is it?" the duke said, and I inhaled. Time to copy and paste a typical movie storyline. "So there was a knight and there was the daughter of a large businessman. However, when the businessman passed, he didnt give any of his money to his daughter! Can you believe it? Anyway, the daughter. who had lived in the lap of luxury forever, was sent off to grab a rich man. And she found the knight, huzzah! anyway, when that happened, he completely forgot that Levi existed, so he gave all his fortune to her. And now, the daughter disappeared, leaving Levi in the dust. Spicy, right?! Anyway, we're besties now, and I'm not going anywhere without him, so it's a two-for-one deal." I said, twiddling my thumbs, and Levi gaped at me, open-mouthed. The duke was also stuck in shock, so I headed in for the grand finale.
"Take it or leave it," I said.
