Chapter 5: Kyubey's Scheming

As Fay is heavily absorbed and lost sense of reality, a figure came to him while he was reading a book. He whispered to Fay's ear, surprising him."Fay. We are going to get dinner. Let's go".It's Wain. He's too absorbed reading he didn't realise he is here.Wain looked at the table with bunch of opened books. He swears he sees one of the pages turning by itself at the corner. Maybe it's the wind.Fay quickly placed all the books back in place. It's rude to leave them after all.Wain took a book and browsed it while waiting for Fay.Seeing Fay is done they both went out to meet the other party members in a restaurant.Fay noticed the usually quiet Amber is looking at him, and at Wain. As if she had something playing in her mind. It's a mystery really.Fay took out most of the money he had got from his shares hunting some beast that afternoon and gave it to Lisa. It's to pay for the clothes and the inn rent they pay for him. They refuse it, but since Fay insisted, they still take them.While waiting for dinner to be served, they chat around. Fay is naturally a quiet person and he don't really know how to start to reply to conversations. But the party members know not to force Fay to speak. After all there's also another quiet member of the group, Amber.Trevor suddenly asked Fay, what Skills he has and if he learned spells from the Mage Association branch.Skills is basically what you are born with. It's like spells, but requires no chanting and use mana. There are also skills you can learn by training as well. Such as using Sword Aura where you slashed can be imbued with mana, increasing its range and potency.Fay is silent for a while, thinking whether he should tell them about his space magic.He felt closest to Wain, and so he told him without much thought.Wain had already told Fay that his space magic is very rare and would be sought after. He also advised him that it would be his decision to tell anyone about it.Fay decides to trust the party members, since they are Wain's friends.He explained the space magic he can use. Their mouth is wide agape.Space magic is one of the rarest magic in the world including other equally crazy magic like time, soul and mind magic.After Fay explained how he has a big space storage, and can keep as many things as he wanted, probably - they once again are amazed.Trevor immediately asked if he want to join their party. Although a 'party' is really flexible, since it's not necessary to join in missions together and even members outside of the party can just join in to do missions together, it's more like a circle of close friends or the people you really like working together with.Fay nodded. Since he thinks it doesn't really matter if he joined a party or not given how the system works.After a while food arrives. Fay got himself some flour coated deep fried chicken beast meat. It's good but it tastes generic with no unique characteristic to it. As in, he can make it himself. He missed KFC… Or maybe McDonald's fried chicken. They have a unique oomph to them, giving them characteristic taste. He wonders if there's a restaurant that specialises in that kind of thing in this world.Once they are done, they were going back to the inn.Trevor teases Fay."Fay, you can get your own room you know~".Fay considers it seriously. He doesn't want to trouble Wain too much.As for Wain, he doesn't want to make a comment on it. He didn't know if Fay wanted to stay with him after all that. After all they slept together and it felt very awkward to stay in the same room.'Umm…'.He looked at Wain, seeing his response. Wain kept a stoic face, as if trying to not show any emotions."I guess I will get my own room".Amber had a disappointment look in her face. Perhaps she's the biggest WainXFay in the entire group and had so much wild things going on in her head about them.Fay looks at Wain. His tail is down, and even his ears seemed to flop down a little bit.Trevor felt like if he hadn't suggested it, Fay would have stayed with Wain. Did he make some mistake? He even felt Wain was looking at him with an annoyance.Well, the die is cast and Fay gets his own room.…Wain sat on his bed. Remembering how good it felt to have Fay with him. When he pats his tail, his ear, and sniffs him here and there.Maybe if he is a little more daring, he would have directly asked him to stay with him.He can only sigh. He blamed Trevor for even mentioning it.Neither Fay or Wain mentions they had slept together. As if it never happened. He wonders what Fay thinks. If he wanted to do it again as well.Fay do think about it. But he felt too awkward to be completely honest about it. If, Wain asked him however, he would agree. He likes his company after all.They both slept on their own, secretly missing each other's touch.…A week passes while Fay do some simple missions with Wain and at times other party members like killing goblins and kobolds, harvesting specific herbs, and beast material requests. He is getting used to using his magic and his MG abilities. Fay is also quickly promoted to be a bronze level adventure. (Adventurer level as follow: Copper - Bronze - Iron - Silver - Gold - Mithril - Adamantite)Morning comes."Fay, want to join us on a beast subjugation?", asked Elvis.He explains a Red Scaled Lizard had been terrifying the nearby Noah village, eating their livestock and causing them to be afraid to go to the woods to collect woods and herbs. The quest is placed by the local lord to the adventurer guild and the reward is quite generous.Fay nodded. He does remember the details of the red lizard when he read the encyclopaedia. A monster of 5 to 10 meters in length, has a hard scale and has venomous saliva and claws.…[Noah village, a few days prior, at night.]The gigantic red lizard stretches its mouth and swallows the cow whole. It smacks its lips, enjoying the fat juicy cow.It hears a movement inside the wooden building. It moves its eyes and crawls towards the wooden house, staring through the window with its slit eyes."Shush…". The old woman placed his finger on her granddaughter. Eli had tears in her eyes feeling the giant lizard nearby.She can hear it's breathing. It's right outside the window.They are hiding behind the bed close to it hoping it doesn't notice.But unfortunately, the lizard does notice. A delicious smell.It clawed the window with its hand and pushed its nose into it trying to break in.Eli wanted to cry and scream in fear.The grandmother took out the pitchfork she had readied herself with and stood up from her hiding. She will try to drive the beast away.As she stood up, the lizard let out a screeching scream and broke one of the planks of the window. He wants to get it. The old woman bravely stabbed its right eye. The lizard winced in pain and lunged its head towards the old woman.The old woman can't dodge and had his arm bitten. The lizard didn't release its bite and flayed around until the poor woman's arm was torn off her body."aarrghhh!". The poor woman is thrown on the wooden floor."Grandma!!".Eli can't help it but went to her grandmother. The lizard had escaped the scene back into the forest.'Grandma… Grandma…wuuuu…'.Eli cried seeing her grandmother in pain and the blood kept flowing out of her torn off arm. The end of the arm shows signs of blisters and rotting flesh due to the venom of the lizard.Eli tried to find a rope and tie the end of the torn off arm. But the venom is still spreading."Grandma…grandma… Wuuuu".Grandma Chen gave a weak smile to Eli.'It's okay. Grandma is already old. I just want Eli to be happy, okay?".She soon closed her eyes, wanting to rest."Grandma… Wuu….". Eli kept crying.Suddenly she felt a furry thing brushed past her. She turned around to see a bunny-like thing stood on the broken window."I can grant you a wish for a price. In exchange you have to fight magical beasts and Wraiths for your entire life. Do you want to make a contract?"."Please, save my grandmother! I don't care what it cost me".Eli begged the creature. She no longer cares if it's the devil. She just wants her grandma safe.A bright green light surrounds the girl as a bright green soul gem forms out of her soul.Her grandmother is also engulfed in a green light. Her torn arm grew in an instant and the injuries that she got when she was thrown into the floor visibly healed.'Grandma!', Eli put a tear of relief. She looked at the creature with big round eyes, with its tail wagging."Thank you".'You are welcome. You are now contracted as a magical girl. If you have any questions, ask me anything.
