"So, um... what do we do with these guys?" Flash asked out loud.
Huh? I didn't think about that. We had four unconscious Kryptonians here. What exactly do we do with them?
"I say we cut off their heads!" Wonder Woman said cheerfully as she brandished her sword once again. Sometimes people forget she was raised in a warlike culture...
"We can't do that, Diana," I said, to which she just slumped down and pouted. Batman and Superman definitely wouldn't go for it, and also... these four didn't actually kill anyone. Yes, they were planning on destroying the world, and yes, some buildings were destroyed, and there's now a massive crater outside Metropolis. But that was pretty much all their damage amounted to. As far as DC alien invasions go, this was probably one of the most tame ever. I think it would also give the people of Earth a big confidence boost that we fought off an alien invasion with no casualties.
"On Themyscira, we would mount their heads on our walls," I heard Diana mutter to herself dejectedly. Batman was just glaring at her. He clearly had big problems with killing.
I just waved him off. "It's okay, Batman. She's learning. It's her first time off her warlike island, after all. Give her time to adjust."
"Whatever you all decide to do, you better do it fast because people know the fight is over and now they are coming back," Rosalie said. I looked towards the horizon, and I realized she was right. I could see multiple news helicopters mixed in with a full military convoy heading towards us. They probably wanted to seize the alien wreckage for themselves or something along those lines. I don't think they'll be getting as much as they're hoping for, though.
I glanced over to the crater... Yeah, that ship was absolutely destroyed. The ship had exploded once it hit the ground, after all. The most anyone was going to salvage from that was some alien scrap metal. With my X-ray vision, peering into the wreckage, I could see some of the warsuits inside were relatively intact, though. It was probably a good idea not to let any shady government agencies recover those…
"I think I have a way to safely deal with these four for now," Superman said to everyone. "I'll put them in cryo sleep in my... um, fortress. They can be locked away in sleep for years with no issues." I nodded to that. That seemed like a pretty good option for now. Maybe in the future, we'll figure something else out for them.
"You have your own fortress!?" Flash exclaimed in surprise. "...I've been living out of a storage unit," he muttered to himself dejectedly.
Everyone turned to me and gave me an asking look. "No, I don't also have my own fortress," I pouted. "His parents clearly loved him more." They all then gave me an unnecessary look of pity, causing me to pout again. "ANYWAY," I said, changing topics to remind them we needed to leave. "I'm going to recover the warsuits from the crash site, and I'll meet you at the fortress," I said to Clark. He nodded before he hefted the four Kryptonians over his shoulders and took off towards the arctic.
Once he left, I turned to all the other heroes there. "Thank you all so much for coming to help. Without all of you, things would have been... a lot worse. I don't know if Superman and I would have been able to fight off six of our own race by ourselves, especially when we wouldn't be able to use Kryptonite."
"Ha, don't sweat it, Supergirl," Flash said. "The truth is… I've actually had these speed powers of mine for a few months, and I haven't really been doing anything with them. Then I saw you asking for help on the TV, and I knew that that was my moment to finally step up. I'll see you all next time the world's in danger, I guess." Flash added before he vanished... in a flash.
"Indeed, that battle against Zod was quite exhilarating... until the ship crashed on top of us. If you need aid again, you only have to ask, and I will come," Wonder Woman said before she took off into the sky.
I looked over towards Batman... and he was gone already. I saw his tank driving over the horizon.
"That was rude," Rosalie said, also noticing that he had just left without telling anyone. "I'll see you at home, Kara." She said before zipping off back towards Forks. I just shrugged to my lonesome and headed towards the wreckage to grab the warsuits.
...
A few hours later, I had left Clark at his fortress that I was still totally not jealous of him having as I flew back towards Forks. It was late evening as I touched down in my yard and headed inside.
"Hi, everyone," I said as I walked into my house. Of course, I had heard them long before I entered. Rosalie was back, no longer in her costume, and once again dressed like a model. She was sitting by herself, looking a bit somber, though, and just gave me a small wave. Alice and Esme were sitting with her in my living room.
"Welcome back, Kara!" Alice squealed excitedly. "Rosalie got back an hour ago, but she hasn't said anything about what happened in the fight! She's being all sneaky about it," Alice pouted.
"Welcome back, dear. Oh, Kara! Your face is covered in blood, sweetheart!" Esme exclaimed in worry.
"What? My face is covered in blood?" I ran over to a nearby bathroom and looked in the mirror. Yep, my face was covered in blood alright. It must have happened when Faora kicked me in the face when I had temporarily lost my powers. Why didn't anyone say anything!?
... Oh... No…
…On the way back home, I had seen people around the country in the streets celebrating our epic win against the aliens. I was feeling pretty jubilant, so I flew down a few times and gave out autographs and pictures. There were now going to be pictures of me like that all over the internet... I could already imagine the memes!
After washing my face off, I zipped back out of the bathroom towards the three waiting vampires.
Esme gasped in relief, seeing that I had clearly healed and that was old blood. "Rosalie, why didn't you say anything about my face?"
Rosalie, who was sitting and staring off into space, snapped herself out of it before she turned to me. "I'm sorry, Kara. I had other things on my mind." She sounded a bit down.
"Are you still upset about getting your head ripped off?" I asked.
"WHAT!?" Alice and Esme exclaimed in shock. "You had your head ripped off, Rosalie!" Alice yelled, clearly upset.
"Are you okay, dear? I'm so sorry that happened to you. Have you had enough blood to heal?" Esme added on rapidly.
Rosalie just gave them both a small smile. "I had a cow," she said, and I chuckled. She pouted at me before continuing, "I had a literal cow, the whole thing, so yes, I've had enough blood," she added to their sighs of relief. "The reason I'm upset is because…" She paused for a moment. "…I liked it. I liked fighting against those guys... I liked being a hero." She said to Alice and Esme's surprise. She continued more passionately, "I liked having something different THAN THE MONOTONY OF GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL EVERY WEEKDAY FOR THE PAST 40 YEARS STRAIGHT!" She shouted that last part. That had clearly been bottling up for a while.
"Then don't stop," I said, to her shock. "Billions of people now know who Rose Knight is. Wouldn't it be weird if she vanished and was never seen again?"
Rosalie had a pondering look on her face before she nodded. "I don't think I will stop. Not just yet, anyway."
"Yay, we're going to be superheroes!" Alice cheered with glee as she jumped around ecstatically. "I can't wait till my costume is done to join you!"
Esme just sighed at Alice's antics, and I just laughed. "I can't wait to welcome you to the Justice League as well, Alice."
"Justice League?"
I nodded. "Yep, that's gonna be the name for our group. It's already been decided, so it can't be changed." That was not true. I had not discussed it with anyone, but I wasn't letting us be named anything weird like the Super Seven or worse, the Justice Lords…
"You've both had quite a long day," Esme said kindly. "Why don't we have dinner with Kara? I made pot pie, and then we'll go." She said before heading towards the kitchen.
I want her as my mom so badly... too bad her only available child to marry and make that happen currently was Edward...
...
The next morning came and I decided to watch some TV while I had breakfast. Flipping it on, the first thing that popped up seemed to be an early morning talk show hosted by a few women I did not recognize.
"Good morning and welcome to 'Good Day Seattle.' Today's topic is one that everyone has been anticipating: Supergirl and the other superhumans halting the alien invasion. They successfully destroyed the alien ship, which crashed near Metropolis. Now, what are your thoughts?" the first woman asked. This is pretty much what I figured would be all over the news for a while. People would grow bored of it eventually, though, once the next big story came around.
"I, for one, am relieved that Supergirl appears to be fine despite that circulating picture of her with blood on her face. It was quite shocking since we've never seen her with even a scratch before," the second woman commented.
"Absolutely! Supergirl can withstand bullets, catch planes, and survive car collisions without flinching. Those aliens must have been incredibly powerful to make her bleed like that!" Another woman added.
"Speaking of the aliens, do we have any details about their appearance or identity now that they've been defeated?" Asked the first woman again.
"Unfortunately, no. The military immediately secured the crash site after the battle, and any recovered bodies or technology haven't been disclosed to the public yet," the second woman responded.
"Do we believe these aliens posed a significant threat to the world? It seemed like they were defeated relatively quickly, considering the circumstances. Plus, all the new superheroes survived."
"At this point, we can only speculate. It's possible that people may have panicked more because it was their first hostile encounter with extraterrestrial beings," the second woman replied.
"The so-called princess of Themyscira, the home of the Amazons, thought to be mere mythology until now, claimed that her people had repelled alien invasions in the past. Any thoughts on that?" The first woman asked.
"Before yesterday, I would have dismissed it as absurd, but now, I have to admit that it's definitely a possibility-"
Click.
I turned the TV off since I unfortunately had school.
…
"Good morning, Jessica. Good morning, Angela," I greeted the two of them as I walked up to the building.
"Oh my gosh, Kara, good morning! Yesterday was absolutely crazy, wasn't it?" Jessica squealed in excitement.
"Thank goodness for Supergirl," Angela said, as she sent me a wink. I just gave her a smile in return. "She sent those disgustingly evil aliens packing back to where they belong." Unfortunately, I did not do that, and they are still on Earth, just frozen in cryostasis... We couldn't exactly send them packing when we blatantly destroyed their ship and left its burnt-out husk outside one of the country's largest cities, after all...
"I'm glad Supergirl was there too," I said, to Jessica's enthusiastic nodding. "By the way, I missed school yesterday. Did anything happen?"
"Oh my gosh," Jessica said in glee. "You won't believe this. We got another new student!" Jessica actually started blushing before she spoke again. "It's Bella Swan, the girl we talked about earlier, and she's actually really pretty..." Jessica trailed off at the end there.
"She's also super jacked," Angela said.
I nodded along– Wait, what!? Super… jacked? That didn't sound like the Bella Swan I'd read about or seen on the screen. "What do you mean by super jacked?" I asked Angela.
"She's got a six-pack, and her arms are completely packed with muscle. You should have seen her when she took her shirt off in gym class at the end of the day. Every single girl in the entire locker room just stared at her in shock," Angela said with a laugh. "Jessica included," she added slightly, much to the other girl's blush... Was Jessica actually considering giving that plan I thought of jokingly last week a shot?
"Is she here yet?" I said. Now I kind of wanted to get a good look at her if she was turning out to be so different from how she was in the story. Although this isn't the typical Twilight world, after all. The Butterfly Effect is definitely a real thing, and maybe somewhere in her life, this Bella Swan met a competitive bodybuilder or something and fell in love with the sport, for all I knew... Even if she's got muscles, it shouldn't really change her personality that much... right?
"No, she has a really loud truck that you can't miss. Trust me you'll know when she's here."
Well at least some things didn't change. I've actually been considering offering to buy that truck off of her as a souvenir from my new life.
"..."
"Oh, the Cullens just pulled up," Jessica said, pulling me out of my thoughts. I turned around and saw Alice giving me an enthusiastic wave to come over and talk with them. "Don't feel pressured to stick around talking to the lame kids like us," Jessica said with a laugh. "You can go over and say hi to your cooler friends."
"Jessica... the Cullens aren't cooler than you guys," I said, and she actually gave me a genuine smile upon hearing that. I continued, "they're just prettier, is all." She gave me a pout in response before turning around with Angela and walking into the school. I, meanwhile, turned around and headed over to the Cullen car.
"Hi, everyone," I said as I approached. The boys in the group were all giving me strange looks, and then, to my shock, a notebook was immediately shoved into my face by Emmett himself.
"Please sign this," he said excitedly. I just raised an eyebrow at the weird request before I noticed Rosalie and Alice had trouble meeting my eyes. Ah, so I see that my secret was finally out... I'm not mad. I'm actually surprised they lasted this long, keeping Edward out of their heads.
Edward, to the side, was just looking at me smugly like he'd just discovered my darkest secrets. "Quit looking so smug, tomato boy," I said to him, and everyone laughed. I pulled out a pen and signed my name as Supergirl right next to what I assume to be Rosalie's signature that was signed as 'Rose Knight.'
"Awesome!" Emmett said with excitement. "Now I've got the signature of Supergirl and Rose Knight. Pretty soon, I'll have the entire Justice League! Superman is your cousin, right, Kara? Remind him to sign my book next time he stops by Forks." I just told him I'll do my best to remember. That seemed to make him happy.
I turned towards Rosalie and Alice. "So, was it Edward that finally ended up exposing me by reading one of your minds?" I asked them, and Alice looked a little guilty.
"I'm sorry about that, Kara," she started. "What happened was..."
"She wasn't hiding her thoughts because she was so excited about making her own superhero costume so she could go out and patrol with the Rose Knight," Edward rudely interrupted her with a smug tone. I just scoffed at him, acting like using his power which he had no control over was impressive at all. When he finally learned to control it and stop reading people's minds all the time, then he could start bragging...
"So, did any of you guys see the new girl yesterday?"
"No," Emmet said. "None of us were here yesterday. We thought Rosalie went missing, although Alice kept assuring us that she was fine," he gave Alice a small glare. "She wasn't fine because she ended up having her head ripped off!" He said towards Alice angrily, like it was her fault.
Jasper finally showed some emotion and stood in front of his wife before he hissed at Emmett, causing the large man to back down. "It wasn't Alice's fault. That was Rosalie's decision to go and fight." Jasper spat back.
"Yes, it was," Rosalie said proudly. "And I've already decided that I'm not going to stop being a hero. That was the most fulfilled I'd ever felt in my entire life of endlessly attending high school and accomplishing nothing..."
Emmett changed his tune before he gave his wife a genuine smile. "And you know I absolutely support you, babe. And the best part is that I get to bang a superhero!" He added crassly at the end. Edward looked disgusted, probably from the things Emmett was thinking about.
"..."
The warning bell rang, and I headed off to my first class. I sat down next to Jessica, who seemed to be shifting back and forth in her seat, looking at the door. "Hi again, Jessica." She jumped up startled in surprise. Apparently, she didn't even notice me coming in. "You waiting for someone?" I asked her.
"Yes, the new girl, Bella," she said shyly. "We sat together yesterday morning. She was really nice and outgoing."
Bella Swan... outgoing? Am I in an alternate universe again all of a sudden? Before I could continue questioning reality, however, the door to the classroom opened, and in walked the girl in question. I had heard what Jessica and Angela said about her, but seeing was truly believing. She entered the room with actual confidence, and she was wearing actual nice designer clothes. I could also tell underneath her outfit that she was clearly in amazing shape.
"Bella, hi, over here! Come sit with us," Jessica called to her across the classroom with a wave. The girl walked and took the seat opposite of myself on Jessica's side.
"Hi again, Jessica," Bella said with enthusiasm. "And hello to you as well. I don't believe we've met." She reached across Jessica and held up her hand for me to shake.
I shook her hand. "It's nice to meet you too, Bella. I'm Kara El. I was the new girl last week as well. I've made some great friends so far, though!" I felt her grip tighten slightly for a second when I introduced myself before it went back to normal, and she let go.
"R-really? I hope I can make some great friends as well," Bella said with a slight stutter.
Ah, there was the normal awkward Bella I was looking for. Maybe she was putting on false confidence this whole time?
"Yeah," Jessica cut into the conversation. "Kara is so lucky that she somehow became friends with not only Alice Cullen but also Rosalie Hale! I was so jealous when Angela told me that you actually had a sleepover party with those two. Next time, I want to come!" She demanded with a pout.
"I'll have to talk to Alice about that, Jessica, but I'm sure she would be fine with it. We were actually planning on going shopping again soon for the upcoming dance. Angela was going to go with us, and you're more than welcome to come as well. Oh, and you too, Bella," I said to her with an afterthought.
Jessica did a small fist pump in celebration. Bella, meanwhile, was staring at me with her mouth wide open in surprise for some reason. "Are you alright there, Bella?" I asked her curiously. I didn't still have blood on my face, did I? No, I'm absolutely sure that I cleaned all of that off.
Bella shook herself out of her weird staring. "I'm sorry about that," she said. "I just kind of spaced out for a second." She had a small blush on her face as she turned her head to the side in embarrassment. I just waved her off and told her it was fine. She kept shooting me not so subtle glances though.
After that, the teacher walked in, and our conversations were cut off for the rest of the period. I departed from Jessica and Bella once class was over. The former promised to see me at our lunch table later.
…
"Hi, Mike," I said as I sat down at the lunch table next to him. I was the last one to arrive. Already at the table were Jessica, Lauren, Eric, Angela, Mike, and Bella. "Did you manage to get out of school yesterday like I did?"
"No," he said with a grumble. "My folks made me come anyway. I told them that it was possibly the last day in the world with the aliens and all, but they just told me everything was fine and that they believed in Supergirl and that it was my job to keep getting my education while it was her job to go beat up the aliens! I really wish I could switch jobs with her!" He said as he put his head on the table dramatically.
"Me too, man," Eric across the table cut in. "I wish I had superpowers as well. I'd want to be like that Flash guy. Can you imagine being able to run at Mach 20? What does the world even look like when you're moving that fast? Everything must be completely standing still. That sounds awesome..." Eric went on a bit of a nerdy rant as Lauren, who was sitting next to him, just scoffed. Maybe she wasn't into superheroes...
"The most amazing hero was obviously Wonder Woman! Not only did she fly, but she was also a beautiful Amazon princess. That kind of aesthetic fits me to a tee, doesn't it?" Lauren said with a flip of her hair. Personally, I was thinking the new Bella suited that aesthetic closer than Lauren did. I was pretty sure that Lauren had never exercised a day in her life and that she was only skinny from the lack of eating, as shown by her current lunch plate which was just an apple.
…Thinking about food, I sadly had forgotten to bring my own lunch today. I had actually made an anonymous donation to our school cafeteria to improve our lunches overall, but the changes wouldn't go into effect until next year... I kind of feel like I wasted some money there, but it's not like I could take back the donation without looking like an asshole.
*GASPS*
Collective gasps from all the students in the cafeteria signaled that the Cullens had arrived for lunch.
"Those are the Cullens I was talking about earlier," I heard Jessica whisper to Bella. "You see, those two super pretty girls are Alice and Rosalie. Both of them have boyfriends, but you can still see guys attempting to ask them out all the time in the school hallways."
As I watched them enter, Alice surprisingly separated from the group before skipping over to our table. "Hi, Kara! Hi, Angela!" Alice greeted both of us. She had a brown paper bag in her hand, which she handed to me. "Esme figured that you were probably too tired to make your own lunch today, so she made this for you. It's a turkey club." Alice handed me the bag before she skipped away back to her family's table.
I opened it up, and it looked absolutely delicious. I took a bite, and it was. Mike had an expression of jealousy on his face as he was eating the cafeteria special of the day, and today it was mystery meat pie... I don't know what type of meat is supposed to be gray though.
"Hey, Kara," Mike said. "I'll trade you half of my pie for half of that sandwich," he said with a hopeful look.
"Sorry, Mike, but that happens to be a hell followed by a no," I answered him with a snicker.
Lauren spoke up loudly, "What the hell? When did the new girl and Angela become friends with the Cullens?" Eric was nodding curiously as well.
"Oh," Jessica spoke up without a care. "Well, Lauren, you were out with mono…"
"You told people that!" Lauren interrupted angrily. "That was supposed to be a secret. Gosh why do I tell you anything!?"
Jessica just gave her a shrug and continued speaking. "…and I can't remember where Eric was, but he wasn't here either the day that Angela and Kara got invited by Alice to go shopping in Port Angeles. Apparently, Rosalie tagged along too. I am so jealous that I was busy after school that day and couldn't go!" Jessica explained. "But I'm absolutely going with them on the next one," she bragged to Lauren's bitter face.
Across the cafeteria, I heard Rosalie let out a sigh at having to put up with Jessica in the future. "It's okay, she's honestly pretty nice," I whispered under my breath, knowing that they would hear me.
"Lauren is absolutely not fucking coming with us, though," I heard Rosalie actually let out the rare swear. "That bitch spread so many rumors about me and Alice because all the boys were giving us attention and not her!" Yeah, that sounds like something Lauren would probably do.
"The new girl, Bella Swan... I can't read her mind either," I heard Edward mumble to himself. Instead of looking shocked like he probably expected them to, the rest of the Cullens at the table just shrugged. "What the hell, guys? It's a big deal that I can't read her mind! What if she discovers our secrets!?" He seemed genuinely concerned about that.
"Oh," Alice said. "Did nobody tell you? Kara is planning on destroying the Volturi with the Justice League soon in the future. That's why it's not a huge deal if she finds out anyway, because soon there won't be anyone to punish us." She finished with a vindictive smile on her face. I figured she was probably constantly irritated by the Volturi trying to recruit her for her gift.
"WHAT!?" Edward stood up from his table in shock and yelled loud enough that everyone in the cafeteria turned and looked at him weirdly. He noticed all the awkward looks he was getting before he apologized to everyone and sat back down, embarrassed. "What the hell do you mean you're going to destroy the Volturi, and why didn't anyone tell me about that?" He whispered angrily to everyone else at the table who was apparently aware of the information.
"I don't know, dude. I thought you knew," Emmet said. "Rosalie told me, and Alice told Jasper, and I don't know who told Esme, but she didn't seem to mind, and she told Carlisle, so I guess we just forgot to tell you..." Emmett trailed off. "See, man, this is why you need a girlfriend, because she will participate in the gossip and let you in on the information as well." He added teasingly.
"..."
My listening in on the vampire conversation was interrupted when someone else sitting at my own table spoke to me. It was surprisingly Bella, who was talking to me. "So, Kara," Bella said, "where did you live before you moved to Forks?" She was looking at me curiously.
"Oh, I moved here from..." I paused for a moment. Wait... what was my backstory that Sam set up? I was having trouble remembering. I was supposed to be a rich heiress or something whose family died tragically, and I moved here from some European country that started with the letter 'S.' Oh, that's right, now I remember. "I moved here from Sweden," I said, "after my family died in a sad accident that I would rather not talk about..." I trailed off there, faking sadness. I was getting some sympathetic looks from everyone at the table. Nailed it!
"Kara," I heard Alice whisper to me across the room. "Your backstory was that you moved here from Switzerland, not Sweden..." ...Well, shit. Close enough, I suppose. It's not like anyone can confirm that story... except the chief of police, who happens to be Bella's dad... Well, if she ends up confronting me, like the nosy girl I know she's supposed to be, about the truth in the future, I'll just gaslight her and tell her that I absolutely said Switzerland and not Sweden, and that she misheard me. Yep, that's what I'll do for sure.
Bella just gave me a suspicious look in return for my explanation. What the hell? Why was she so focused on me all of a sudden? I've barely talked to the girl other than our little conversation this morning. She was about to open her mouth to say something else when...
*BANG*
The cafeteria door slammed open, and standing there was a frantic-looking Leah! That was weird. What was she doing at our school? Her eyes searched through the cafeteria quickly before they landed on me. She gave me a frantic look and waved at me to come over towards her.
"Sorry, guys," I told everyone at the table as I stood up. "This seems to be important, so I'm afraid I've got to go."
"Bye, Kara," Angela and Jessica said to me as I stood up from the table and left. I noticed that across the cafeteria, Rosalie, along with Alice, was also heading towards me and Leah.
"Let's take this outside," I said to the four of them as we left the cafeteria and headed towards the parking lot.
...
Once we reached the parking lot, I turned to the frantic-looking Leah. "Okay, Leah, what's got you so frazzled? What's the problem?"
Leah went to answer me before she turned to Rosalie and Alice, concerned about their presence.
"It's fine for them to be here, Leah. Rosalie and Alice are Cold Ones, otherwise known as vampires."
Both of them nodded along. I had told them about Leah before and that she was going to be a guaranteed shifter in the future. Surprisingly, while I had made up the smell before, she actually did smell like a dog a little bit right now. I guess that meant that she'd be changing soon. The two vampires definitely smelled it on her as well, as they didn't seem upset that I just told Leah about them.
Leah gave them one last cautious look before she turned to me and started crying. "Everything was going so well. We found the Kent Nelson guy, in Salem, that you told us about. We explained the situation of imprinting to him, and he agreed to perform a ritual on our entire tribal area that would banish imprinting permanently from our bloodline. The elders, when they were informed, grumbled about us informing an outsider of our circumstances, but they didn't move to stop us. They acknowledged that Sam was the alpha, and it was his decision on whether or not he wanted to allow imprinting to continue in our tribe, which he obviously did not."
"That's great, Leah," I said to her. I was happy for them that they were finally going to get rid of that gross mind control aspect of their abilities. "So what's the problem then? Did something happen?"
Leah continued crying softly. "It's Sam," she said. "The spirits... They were angry that we were trying to take away their GIFT!" She spat out that last word. "Because of that…our tribal spirits have kidnapped Sam!"
