"Well, re:BF, Gabriel Dropout, and the popular works from the past few years..." David picked through the pile of small books like he was selecting vegetables, "Logan, we should look for it together. Let's see if there's anything fresh."
"Something fresh?" Logan replied in doubts. He casually picked up a book with a cute girl on the cover. The paper size was larger than a manga, but generally thinner.
The Doujinshi Area is where fans draw and create various merchandises based on the original work. Besides serious and formal content, there was a significant portion of not-so-serious content, as we all know.
Logan held one such small book, colloquially known as a 'Doujin'. These books, often depicting familiar Anime characters in explicit scenes, were beloved by both gentlemen and Fujoshi. Although some covers appeared proper, opening the packaging revealed happiness-inducing scenes.
Of course, some unscrupulous sellers would mislead buyers with innocent-looking covers, but equally innocent content inside, disappointing fans who took them home full of anticipation.
Ever since entering the Doujinshi Arena, Logan felt odd all over. He thought it might be his lingering sense of shame. Flipping through a Doujin, he nervously glanced around. Fortunately, everyone here was like-minded. When their eyes occasionally met, there was a mutual understanding of 'don't worry, we're all the same'...
"Yeah, something fresh." David whispered, giving Logan a knowing look, "We've seen the usual stuff, it's boring."
Logan couldn't help but recall how David had 'forced' him to open the door to a new world. Yes, all men watch these kinds of videos for the first time not out of their own will. Everyone can guarantee that!
The middle-aged man behind the stall fanned himself, nonchalantly watching the two young men hesitate. He then calmly added fuel to the fire, "Young man, are you going to buy it or not? They're all good!"
The stall owner's words were quite damaging for the thin-skinned Otakus. Unfortunately, David has been on the battlefield for a long time and can withstand the gazes of several passers-by calmly, "Boss, do you have anything particularly good!?"
"..."
Logan turned away. The convention was so exciting, so he should focus on other things.
Ignoring David's conversation with the stall owner, Logan walked a few steps away. Since they entered the venue, it was crowded everywhere. This event featured three halls, corresponding to domestic comics, non-domestics comics, and games.
However, once inside, the distinctions weren't strictly maintained. After all, Japanese Anime dominated the global market. If the entire hall was filled with 'Spongebob' or 'Mickey Mouse', it would be full of kids and parents.
The three circular floors were almost entirely packed. Although the Doujinshi arena was quite large, the passages between stalls were still constantly flowing with people.
With Logan's keen observation, he quickly found the other three members. Nicholas was wandering aimlessly, his eyes scanning the stalls. He seems to be stuck in a dilemma of whether to buy or not. Julia pulled Sophia into a group of girls, which made it obvious what theme they were into.
Among the group, Sophia was closer to being a 2.5D dimensional, having watched a few fitting Anime and enjoying the Otaku culture without being overly obsessed. Her main reasons for attending were curiosity and to relax during the holidays.
"Hey, this is a good opportunity, David. Haven't you noticed your dear Sakura-chan is a bit tired of the same old stuff after the initial excitement?" Logan glanced at David, who was haggling with the stall owner, and shook his head and sighed, "This is the perfect time to introduce her to new things and jokes she's not familiar with. Pay attention to the little details that girls care about, and smartly show your concern. If you start talking about life and rhythm, you've got it in the bag."
It's a pity that since entering the venue, David has only been interested in having fun with the 2D characters, and he has completely displayed the classic Otaku behavior.
"Boss, buy two, get one free. Why are you giving us this? We're straight, not bent."
David's complaint reached Logan's ears, making him instinctively look back. The cover featured the Konoha's forehead protector that he was very familiar with.
Upon seeing this, Logan's face darkened. He knew such things would appear. Regardless of whether they were related to him or not, he quickly looked away.
"Ah, so satisfying..."
Julia returned, hugging a small bag, also filled with Naruto merchandise.
'Wow, Kakashi, what are you wearing?!'
And the corner of a book title peeking out, 'Evil Fujoshi Book: Hattori x...?!'
Logan felt a bit overwhelmed and stifled. Standing in the center of the doujinshi section, he realized why he felt weird since entering. It actually wasn't just the embarrassment of looking at these books, but... 'What the hell? Aren't there too many Naruto Doujins around?'
'The popularity of a series could be gauged by the number of repeated cosplay characters at conventions. This principle also applied to the number of Doujinshi.' Logan took a deep breath, 'Should I be pleased that Naruto had become a phenomenon?'
Then, in his line of sight, a young, cute girl in a short skirt, cosplaying an anime character, was caressing a Naruto doujinshi with a gaze that made his scalp tingle... With his amazing eyesight, Logan immediately saw that it was a picture of him wearing a fox mask.
'Damn, this is uncomfortable. I feels all sorts of wrong.'
"I need to use the restroom... Logan, can you hold this for me?" Julia approached Logan and David, then suddenly whispered awkwardly, while trying to hand Logan the bag full of Doujinshi.
"What are you doing!" When he saw 'Kakashi', who was completely different from what he was familiar with, approaching him, Logan yelled and backed away as if he was electrocuted.
"Hey, is that reaction really necessary?" Julia looked at Logan unhappily. The loli middle schooler couldn't help but puffed up her cheeks.
"It is." Logan wiped his sweat. He also knew that his reaction was a bit too much. He seemed to have bumped into someone when he backed away.
"Hmph, I was thinking of learning to draw. Sakura-chan, isn't creating your own stories more meaningful?" Julia stuck out her tongue and immediately raised her head to Sophia with an excited expression.
"Haha, that's quite reasonable." Sophia took it as a cute thought from a middle schooler and said gently, " Learning to draw and developing an interest is nice."
'Please don't develop such a peculiar interest!' Logan complained in his heart as he looked at Julia with empty gaze, 'You must have wanted to become a dangerous Doujinshi artist.'
In the end, Julia handed her stuff to David and went to the bathroom with Sophia. Everyone in the group had almost finished reading and decided to gather in the circular corridor on the second floor in the center of the venue after finishing here.
"Um, I bumped into you earlier. Are you okay?"
A soft voice called from behind. Logan remembered it and quickly turned around, only to find that it was the girl who had seen stroking 'his book' with her strange eyes before. She had flawless white skin, beautiful nose and cherry lips, which made her enchanting.
"If anything, it was my fault for bumping into you. I'm sorry..."
Logan apologized, glanced away and then looked back, 'Tsk, the skirt is a bit short.'
'Also a Fujoshi.'
Summer blinked her eyes, then froze.
